Craft Masonry.

Bro . C . H . A . Harris , P . M ., Treasurer , responded . He said he was the father of the W . M . in Masonry , and he was proud of his child to see him installed . Bro . Peirce , the S . W ., was also a child of his . He highly valued the position in which they had placed him , and he would do his utmost to promote the interests of their good lodge . As Treasurer , he had a substantia amount in hand , which he hoped would be increased

by the end of the year . Bro . Geo . Laker , P . M ., Sec , also replied . He said he was honoured by again being appointed to his office . He had been associated with the lodge , of which he was one of the founders , for 21 years . He was appointed Secretary in 1 SS 0 , and had held that post ever since . They had always received him with every kindness , which he much appreciated .

"The Past Masteis" was duly honoured , ana responded to by Bro . Enos Howes , P . M ., in very eloquent terms . The toast of " The Ofiicers of the Lodge" was given by the W . M ., who observed that if a Master had bad officers everything was a failure . Those he had invested were all good men , and he was confident they would render him every assistance during his

year of office . Bro . H . Peirce , S . W ., responded in happy terms . The Tyler ' s toast ended a most enjoyable evening . The proceedings were pleasantly varied by a concert , in which Madame Fannie Atkinson , Madame Tester-Jones , Bros . Charles Butler , W . H . Webb , and Mr . Walter Hengler took part , under the direction of Bro . R . Frederic Tyler , P . P . G . Org . Middx .

Phillips was then passed to the Degree of a Fellow Craft , after which Mr . Alfred Austin ^ was initiated . AH the ceremonies were performed by the W . M ., Bro . C . Lamb , in his usual efficient and

impressive manner . Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to Bro . C . Sims , I . P . M ., for the case to hold the banner , and to Bro . Walter Tyler , J . D ., for the handsome polished oak box to contain the lodge album , to which they suitably responded . Bro . H . Visger , Treas ., gave notice of motion— " In consequence of the rapid growth in number , to increase the initiation and joining fees . " Two new members having been proposed , the lodge was closed . The brethren adjourned to the banquet , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

An excellent programme of music , & c , was rendered under the direction of Bro . C . W . Wilkes ,. Organist . During the evening a collection was made on behalf of the Prince of Wales's Hospital Fund , which amounted to £ 2 13 s . 6 d .

And that this vote be record ; d on our minutes , and the Secretary be requested to send a copy to the Secretary of the Richmond Lodge of Instruction . " The lodge was then closed .

Pakes was presented by Sir Knight H . P . Hay , the retiring E . P ., and he was installed E . P . by Sir Knight Henry Lovegrove , P . E . P .,

Harmony Chapter , No . 244 . At the last convocation of this flourishing chapter , held at the Masonic Temple , Stopford-road , St . Helier ' s , Jersey , a goodly number of members were in attendance . The chapter was opened by Comps . Dr . M . Le Cronier , M . E . Z . ; J . T . Bael , P . Z ., H . ; A . C . Godfray , J . ; P . G . Hamilton , P . G . S . E ., S . E . ; Peter Bois , Treas . ; J . C . Barrette , P . Z . ; J . N . Hamling , P . Z . ; Amy , P . S . ; Dr . J . Le Cronier , P . P . G . ist P . S . ; F . Vincent , P . Z . j A . C . Walker , L . P . Hespiradoux , P . P . S . ; J . Caton , Major F . J . Godfray , P . Z . ; J . T . Baker , P . Z . ; W . H . Hambly , Janitor ; and others .

A notice of motion was brought forward by Comp . Dr . A . C . Godfray , J . — "That the chapter vote the sum of io guineas towards the Stewardship of the M . E . Z ., Comp . Dr . M . Le Cronier , at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . " Comp . F . Vincent was balloted for as a joining member , and unanimously accepted . Bros . W . W . Alton and O . Belk were exalted in a very impressive manner , all officers doing their best . Comp . Dr . John Le Cronier , P . Z ., P . P . G . ist P . S ., then re-installed Comp . Dr . M . Cronier as M . E . Z ., and installed Comp . Dr . A . C . Godfray as H . Comp . C E . Malet de Carteret , being absent , his installation as J . was held over . The

following were also invested : Comps . P . G . Hamilton , S . E . ; P . Bois , Treas . ; J . Amy , S . N . ; A . W . Godfray , P . S . ; and W . H . Hambly , Janitor . Comp . A . C . Walker made the most generous gift of 52 guineas towards the funds of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , which subscription exceeds in amount any ever before given to this chapter . The chapter decided that votes should be obtained for the amount , and we hear that Comp . A . C . Walker has already been appointed Vice-President , with 10 votes . We congratulate the chapter in having amongst its members so liberal and kindhearted a companion .

After closing the convocation , the companions adjourned to the refectory , where an excellent banquet awaited them . Thepost-p-andial proceedings were of the usual character . A very sociable evening , enhanced by the musical companions , wis spent , which the closing toast of the Janitor brought to an end at an early hour .

BRO . THE REV . AMBROSE W . HALL , P . G . CHAP . Bro . the Rev . Ambrose W . Hall , M . A ., P . G . Chap ., whose death occurred on the and instant , was initiated in the Surrey Lodge , No . 416 , Reigate , on the 20 th June , 18 34 , and has therefore been a member of our Order for close on 63 years . He rose in time to be W . M . ot this lodge , and in addition was Chaplain of the Prince of Wales Lodge , No . 259 ; a founder and Chaplain of the Kaiser-i-Hind Lodge , No . 1724 ; and a member or honorary member of many other

lodges , but especially of the St . Ambrose Lodge , No . iSgi , of which in 1880 he was founder and first Worshi pful Master . He had served as Prov . Grand Officer in Surrey , firstly for some seven years , and subsequently as Prov . S . G . Warden , and in 1881 his Royal Highness , the M . W . G . Master , was pleased to confer upon him the collar of Grand Chaplain , his senior colleague in the office being the present Very Rev . Bro . the Dean of York , Bro . Hall was a Royal Arch Mason , having been a member of Prince of Wales Chapter , No . 259 ; a P . Z . of the Bard of Avon Chapter , No . 778 j and a Past Grand ist Asst . Soj . in Supreme Grand

Chapter . In the Mark Degree he was Past Prov . G . Chaplain Middlesex and Surrey and Past Grand Chaplain of Mark Grand Lodge . In the Order of the Temple a Past E . Preceptor , and Past High Prelate in Great Priory , and in the Ancient and Accepted Rite a Past M . W . S . of the Great Metropolitan Chapter of Rose Croix and 32 ° . Our deceased brother had , indeed , won distinction in the several branches and Degrees in Masonry with which he was connected , and though during the latter part of his life he had taken no active part in Masonic work , he was highly respected , and the memory of his many services will be cherished for many years to come .

The lodge was opened and the minutes read . The ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Chad being the candidate , followed by the ceremony of raising , Bro . Cload again acting as candidate , bro . Birks was elected W . M . for th : ensuing week and appointed the officers in rotation . On the previous Tuesday , the Gth inst ., about 15 members ofthe lodge paid a return visit to the Richmond Ledge of Instruction , at the Station Hotel , Richmond . A most successful meeting was held , the various offices being filled by the vis ' tors . Bro . J . VV . Clarke , P . M ., worked the ceremony of initiation . Bro . R . P . Upton , P . M ., that of

On the present occasion the following resolution was proposed by Bro . Hancock , Preceptor , seconded

by Bro . Ctx n , and cirried unanimously : " That a hearty vote of thanks be given to the members of the Richmond Lodge of Instruction for their very cordial and hospitable welcome on the occasion of our visit on the 5 th inst . And that this vote be record ; d on our minutes , and the Secretary be requested to send a copy to the Secretary of the Richmond Lodge of Instruction . " The lodge was then closed .

Helier ' s , Jersey , a goodly number of members were in attendance . The chapter was opened by Comps . Dr . M . Le Cronier , M . E . Z . ; J . T . Bael , P . Z ., H . ; A . C . Godfray , J . ; P . G . Hamilton , P . G . S . E ., S . E . ; Peter Bois , Treas . ; J . C . Barrette , P . Z . ; J . N . Hamling , P . Z . ; Amy , P . S . ; Dr . J . Le Cronier , P . P . G . ist P . S . ; F . A notice of motion was brought forward by Comp . Dr . A . C . Godfray , J . — "That the chapter vote the sum of io guineas towards the Stewardship of the M . E . Z ., Comp . Dr . M . Le Cronier , at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . " Comp . F . Vincent was balloted for as a joining member , and unanimously accepted . Bros . W . W . Alton and O . Belk were exalted in a very impressive manner , all officers doing their best . Comp . Dr . John Le Cronier , P . Z ., P . P . G . ist P . S ., then re-installed Comp . Dr . M . Cronier as M . E . Z ., and installed Comp . Dr . A . C . Godfray as H . Comp . C E . Malet de Carteret , being absent , his installation as J . was held over . The

following were also invested : Comps . P . G . Hamilton , S . E . ; P . Bois , Treas . ; J . Amy , S . N . ; A . W . Godfray , P . S . ; and W . H . Hambly , Janitor . Comp . A . C . Walker made the most generous gift of 52 guineas towards the funds of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , which subscription exceeds in amount any ever before given to this chapter . The chapter decided that votes should be obtained for the amount , and we hear that Comp . A . C . Walker has already been appointed Vice-President , with 10 votes . We congratulate the chapter in having amongst its members so liberal and kindhearted a companion .

After closing the convocation , the companions adjourned to the refectory , where an excellent banquet awaited them . Thepost-p-andial proceedings were of the usual character . A very sociable evening , enhanced by the musical companions , wis spent , which the closing toast of the Janitor brought to an end at an early hour .

BRO . THE REV . AMBROSE W . HALL , P . G . CHAP . Bro . the Rev . Ambrose W . Hall , M . A ., P . G . Chap ., whose death occurred on the and instant , was initiated in the Surrey Lodge , No . 416 , Reigate , on the 20 th June , 18 34 , and has therefore been a member of our Order for close on 63 years . He rose in time to be W . M . ot this lodge , and in addition was Chaplain of the Prince of Wales Lodge , No . 259 ; a founder and Chaplain of the Kaiser-i-Hind Lodge , No . 1724 ; and a member or honorary member of many other

lodges , but especially of the St . Ambrose Lodge , No . iSgi , of which in 1880 he was founder and first Worshi pful Master . He had served as Prov . Grand Officer in Surrey , firstly for some seven years , and subsequently as Prov . S . G . Warden , and in 1881 his Royal Highness , the M . W . G . Master , was pleased to confer upon him the collar of Grand Chaplain , his senior colleague in the office being the present Very Rev . Bro . the Dean of York , Bro . Hall was a Royal Arch Mason , having been a member of Prince of Wales Chapter , No . 259 ; a P . Z . of the Bard of Avon Chapter , No . 778 j and a Past Grand ist Asst . Soj . in Supreme Grand

Chapter . In the Mark Degree he was Past Prov . G . Chaplain Middlesex and Surrey and Past Grand Chaplain of Mark Grand Lodge . In the Order of the Temple a Past E . Preceptor , and Past High Prelate in Great Priory , and in the Ancient and Accepted Rite a Past M . W . S . of the Great Metropolitan Chapter of Rose Croix and 32 ° . Our deceased brother had , indeed , won distinction in the several branches and Degrees in Masonry with which he was connected , and though during the latter part of his life he had taken no active part in Masonic work , he was highly respected , and the memory of his many services will be cherished for many years to come .
