the pleasure of the presence of the W . M ., Bro . the Rev . Canon Tristram , D . D ., Deputy Prov . G . M ., just returned from the Canaries , who made a happy speech
in the course of the pleasant proceedings . The lodge owes much of . its vitality to the indefatigable labours of Bro . Dr . C . Hill Drury , P . P . G . R ., the Secretary of the lodge .
A meeting of the Provincial Grand Mark Lodge of Devonshire will be held at the Rougemont Hotel , Exeter , on Wednesday , the 28 th inst ., under the banner of St . George ' s Lodge , No . 15 , to install the Provincial Grand Master designate , Bro . the Hon . Sir Stafford H .

The report of the Committee of the Cheshire Educational Masonic Institution has just been issued for the past year , during which ^ 243 12 s . nd . has been expended in the education of 32 children , and ^ 10 ios . has been given towards the advancement in life of another . The
Committee record the loss of a lad y Patroness b y the death of the Dowager Viscountess Combermere , and of a Vice-President by the death of Bro . E . J . M'Intyre Bro . Piatt , who was one of the brethren connected
with the foundation of the Institution in 1862 , and has never ceased taking an active part in its interests , resigns the honorary Treasurership owing to failing health .
We learn that Bro . J . S . Cumberland , P . M . of Eboracum Lodge , No . 1611 , founder and first W . M . of the United Northern Counties Lodge , No . 2128 , and
P . P . G . Warden of North and East Yorkshire , is a candidate for the office of Grand Treasurer for the year 1891 . A
We offer our sincerest sympathy to Bro . Chas . S . Lane on the terrible bereavement he has suffered in the loss of his wife , who was accidentall y drowned on Saturday last . The particulars of the sad fatality are narrated by a local paper . It appears that Mrs . Lane
was seen to walk along the pier at West Hartlepool on Saturday last , and , when about half way , she raised her umbrella to shelter herself from the strong breeze or the sunshine . The wind caught the umbrella , and
she , having a tight hold , lost her balance , and fell over the pier into the sea . A fisherman hurried to the spot with boat-hooks , and got her out after some little delay , but , notwithstanding every means was tried to restore animation she was found to be dead .
* * * Our Cornish readers will be pleased to learn that the efforts lately made to establish a lodge in London , where Cornishmen resident in the Metropolis can meet and renew their Masonic associations , have been
successful , and that H . R . H . the Grand Master has granted a warrant for " The Cornish Lodge , " to meet at Mark Masons' Hall . The W . M . designate is Bro . Nicholas West , P . G . W . Cornwall , and Bros . Henwood Thomas and Roberts will fill the respective chairs as Senior and Junior Wardens .
