Provincial Meetings.

After replying , the Worshipful Master proposed " ljie Installing Master , " and presented the I . P . M . with the handsome jewel voted to him by the lodge in recognition of his really valuable services , remarking that it was the second time he had had a like duty to perform . It was , he said , his fervent hope that they might long be spared to work

together as brothers of one family and members of the same lodge . The other toasts were as usual , but we may add that 10 members of the City of London Lodge were among the visitors , with the W . M . ' s of the Dobie , Brownrigg , and Cyclists' Lodges , and others . A very enjoyable evening was spent .

NORTH WOOLWICH . Henley Lodge ( No . 1472 ) . —The winter session of the above powerful lodge , held at the Three Crowns Hotel , closed on Tuesday , the Gth inst ., there being an excellent attendance of the brethren and visitors from neighbouring lodges . Bros . C . H . Canning , I . P . M . ; A . T . Ives , P . M . ; b . West , P . M ., P . P . S . G . D Herts ; Dr . W . Vance , P . M . and Treas . ; C . ] olly , P . M . and Sec . ; A . Knight , S . M . ; S . E . Southgate , S . W . ; J . F . Taylor , S . D . ; and VV . Bidgood , Org ., all of 700 ; C . McKenzie and C . Evans , of 13 S 2 : and others .

The lodge having been opened , and the minutes conlirmed , Mr . Tumber , already approved of , was initiated , and Bros . Hengst and Evans were raised to the Sublime Degree . It was then decided to have the usual summer banquet at Eastbourne , and then the lodge was closed . An excellent supper having been dispatched , the usual I jyal and Grand Lodge toasts were honoured , and then the

W . M ., in returning thanks for the toast of his health , trusted they would all meet in September next in health and strength to carry on the work . In proposing the toast of "The Visitors" the W . M . tendered the ' W . M . and officers of the Nelson Lodge present the thanks of the Henley Lodge for their handsome gift of C 7 votes on behalf of Mrs . Page , widow of a late

P . M . 1076 , whose case the Henley Lodge is furthering , and assured them that their presence that night was esteemed an honour to the Henley Lodge , as their votes were and would be appreciated by every brother of it . Bro . Webber , in response , assured the W . M . and brethren that it gave him great pleasure to be present , because , in the first place , he felt that he was only doing his duty in

the cause of Mrs . Page , whose deceased husband was initiated in the Nelson Lodge ; and in the next , because of the splendid working he had seen that night both by the W . M . and his Deacons . He trusted the votes he had brought over would be augmented by sufficient to carry their candidate . They , the Nelson Lodge , had given their own boy candidate 57 votes , and he felt proud of the

opportunity of giving them , and of the lodge through which be was enabled so to do . He tendered to every brother present a hearty welcome to the Nelson Lodge , and also to their lodge of instruction . Bro . Miller said he stood in a very difficult position , as his W . M . had said all that he had intended to say ; he could , however , thank them for their genial hospitality .

He also congratulated the W . M . upon his officers , the Deacons especially , and the lodge upon its W . M ., and also upon their candidate , who he felt sure would be an honour to the lodge . Bro . Tumber , in responding for his health , hoped he might fulfil all the kindly expectations of the W . M . He had been most favourably impressed with the solemnity of

the initiation ceremony . It was an old saying , " Better late than never , " and he felt it , but yet it would have been best to have joined the Order years ago . However , he hoped by zeal and attention to make up for the lateness of his joining , and to become worthy of the lodge and the kindness of the brethren in accepting him . Some excellent singing enlivened the proceedings .

ability he had displayed in the working of the ceremonies , and said the jewel was a mark of esteem from the members . The gift was appropriately acknowledged by Bro . Tipper . Letters expressing regret for non-attendance having been read , the lodge was formally closed . The brethren subsequently enjoyed a banquet at Freemasons' Tavern , which was followed by the customary

toasts . Bro . John L . Mather , P . G . Treas ., responding for " The Grand Officers , " returned sincere thanks for the hearty reception accorded the toast . He said it was a great pleasure and privilege to be a Grand Officer , more especially to be coupled with the names of the two eminent noblemen mentioned in the toast . He would only say the Grand Officers

endeavoured to discharge their duties in a most satisfactory manner , and he was only sorry more work did not fall upon them , for every member would be ready and willing to perform it in an able and efficient manner . He congratulated the W . M . on being installed into the chair , and hoped he would have a pleasing year of office , and that all the officers would support him to the best of their ability .

Ihe Installing Master had performed the ceremony in a highly creditable manner , and he hoped the lodge would continue to prosper for many years to come . Bro . H . H . Shirley , P . P . G . Org . Middlesex and Surrey , replied for " The Prov . Grand Officers , " and said the Henniker Lodge was to be congratulated upon having so many Grand Officers and Prov . Grand Officers attached to

it . He held a very low position in Prov . Grand Lodge , but he was glad to have attained the office , and hoped to arrive at a higher post . Bro . H . Tipper , I . P . M ., then said he rose to propose the most important toast that could be brought before them" The Health of the W . VI . " He felt sure they had done the right thing that evening in installing Bro . H . Cox into

the chair , and he could say that from the time their VV . M . entered the lodge until the present moment he had fulfilled every portion of the work entrusted to him as well as it was possible to be done , and he would reflect as much credit upon the lodge as any previous Master had done . As they all knew the good qualities of the W . M ., he would simply ask them to drink the toast in bumpers .

Bro . Henry Cox , W . M ., having thanked the I . P . M . and brethren , said lie hoped to be spared to carry out his duties during-his year , and would endeavour to discharge them to the best of his ability . " The Visitors " was next given , and acknowledged by Bros . H . Dickey , W . M . 355 , and W . VV . Lee , 400 . The Worshipful Master proposed " The I . P . M . and Past

Masters , " and said that as the brethren had seen Bro . Tipper perform the installation ceremony that evening , the toast required no comment from him . The Past Masters all performed their duties in an efficient manner , and he hoped other brethren would imitate them so that the prestige of the lodge would be kept up . Bro . H . Tipper , Prov . G . I . G ., I . P . M ., said the Past

Masters were only too pleased to do what they could for the brethren generally and the lodge in particular . The Past Masters had all received kindness from the members , and could not do too much for the lodge . They would be always willing to help the W . M . or any brother when called upon . "The Officers" was then heartily honoured , and

responded to by Bro . Crutch , S . W . Bro . J . Barnett , jun ., J . M ., briefly returned thanks , and was subsequently asked and consented to represent the lodge in the capacity of Steward at the forthcoming Festival of the Mark Benevolent Fund . Two propositions were received , and several letters having been announced from brethren expressing regret for non-attendance , the lodge was closed .

After banquet , the usual toasts were duly honoured , Bro . Yaxley , P . G . Stwd ., replying for " The Grand Officers , " and Bro . Rhodes , P . P . G . O ., responding for "The Prov . Grand Officers . " Bro . H . M . Hobbs , I . P . M ., said he had a very pleasing duty to perform in proposing "The Health of the W . M . " Last month it was his privilege to be the guest of the W . M .

in one of the oldest and most successful Craft lodges in Surrey , in the chair of which it gave him pleasure to see him installed . That evening he had ' greater pleasure in installing Bro . Fox Hawes into the chair of that Mark lodge . Their W . M . was so well known that it would ill become him to say anything in his favour ; but he was best known to them in connection with a

lodge of instruction , of which he had been the able and energetic Secretary for many years , and which owed its present successful condition to him . Bro . Fox Hawes was also associated with him in the Royal Arch and other Degrees , where he was looked upon with affection and regard by every member , in the same way as he was esteemed in this lodge . It would be the duty and privilege

of the members to make the W . M . ' s year a very pleasant one to him , and prosperous to the lodge , for no brother was ever installed , or ever would be , who would to the best of his ability more conscientiously discharge the duties to their entire satisfaction . _ Bro . VV . Fox Hawes , W . M ., having returned thanks , said he held a proud position owing to their favour—the

highest honour , in fact , they could confer upon him . He had the honour to preside at the present' time over his mother Craft lodge , and was now installed in the Mark , which to a certain extent was unique . By the aid of the I . P . M ., the tide of that lodge was flowing in a successful course , and , from the number and quality of members joining , they were on the high road to prosperity , and , with

careful management , would succeed in the future . As long as he was spared he hoped to see the lodge prosper . He looked forward to the officers to help him m the work , and trusted to hand over the warrant as pure and unsullied as he received it . In response to the toast of "The Advancee , Bro . Day , and the Joining Member , Bro . Lea Smith , " Bro . Day

said he felt he had taken a step in the right direction . Although young in Masonry , he took a deep interest in it , and every time he attended a lodge or lodge of instruction he was struck by the cordial feeling existing and the beautiful bonds of fellowship thrown around . The

ceremony that evening had far excelled what he had anticipated , and he could not , of course , fully realise its beauties , but was sure the more he knew of it the more he should like it . Bro . Hugh M . Hobbs , I . P . M ., replied for "The Past Masters , " and said he had not only to thank the brethren

W ., also replied , and said that although he belonged to several Craft lodges , his home was in the Henniker Mark Lodge , at which he had been present every meeting since his advancement , and had had the distinction of bringing three or four of his dear friends into it .
