Royal Masonic Institution For Girls.

Bro . Col . PETERS replied , as President of the Board of Stewards , and thanked the brethren for acknowledging their services . The Stewards tried to make the meeting a success , and he was proud that it had been as it was , the first time he had been President of the Board of Stewards . Bro . Sir ARTHUR OTWAY proposed "The Ladies , " a toast which , he said , required all the eloquence of Demosthenes to do justice to . He wished the

Chairman had designated some old and experienced Mason to propose it rather than one who was in his Masonic teens . That toast was always received with the greatest enthusiasm among Masons , whether old or young . He was not well versed in all the mysteries of the Craft , but he was crafty enough to have discovered already some of the merits and virtues appertaining to the toast . They owed

everything in life to women ; they incited them in manhood to worthy deeds ; in men ' s old age they encouraged them ; they sympathised with them in success , and solaced them in misfortune . The least , therefore , men could do was to wish them well in all times and at all places . He had the pleasure the day before , as well as the privilege , to witness the exercises at the Girls' School , under the auspices of

the Chairman , at Clapham Junction , and a more interesting sig ht he had never witnessed . It was not alone that the girls educated there showed themselves proficient in all those matters in which they were educated , and which would be of the greatest value to them

and to men , but all that they did they did with a gracefulness that astonished and pleased everybody . But it was satisfactory to know that their time was not entirely devoted to study , but they were trained in those useful acquirements and accomplishments which woiild make them hereafter fit to be the wives

and mothers of future Masons . Bro . E . LUXMORE MARSHALL , Chairman of the Ladies' Stewards , replied , and stated that the ladies had expressed their entire satisfaction with the entertainment provided .

The brethren then adjourned to the Temple , where , under the Chairmanship first of Bro . Sir ^ Francis Burdett , and afterwards of Bro . Thomas W . Tew , Prov . G . M . West Yorkshire , a charming concert was given under the direction of Bro . Fredk . A . Jewson , Organist of the Alliance Lodge , No . 1827 . The

executants were Madame Agnes Larkcom , Miss Laura Brown , Miss Frances Hipwell , Miss Bertha Colnaghi , Bro . Edwin Houghton , and Bro . E g bert Roberts , P . M ., P . G . Org . Essex . Solo pianoforte , Madame Michel !; solo violin , Madame Dunbar Perkins ( gold medallist , London Academy of Music ); and solo cornet . Mr . Arther Slade .

The favor worn b y the Stewards contained the arms and crest of the Chairman and the initials of the Institution . It was designed and manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , London .
