The new list contained the names of 30 petitioners from London , Wareham , Folkestone , Birkenhead , Leeds , Gloucester , Liverpool , Manchester , Plympton , Hitchen , Chesterfield , i-hanghai , Cabul , Montego Bay , Hyde , Barnet , Budleigh Salterton , Rocking , France , New

York , Sandhurst , Victoria , and Calcutta . Out of these cases two were dismissed , and seven were deferred . The remainder were relieved with a total sum of £ 760 , which was composed of one recommendation of £ 150 ; five of £ s ° each 5 two of £ 40 each ; five of £ 30 each ; four grants for £ 20 each ; one of £ 15 ; three of JCIO each ; and one of £ 5 .

THE ANNUAL SUMMER BANQUET AND LADIES' DAY OF THE LODGE OF ST . JOHN , No . 1306 .

The sixth annual summer banquet and ladies' day took place on Thursday , the 15 th inst ., at the Crown Hotel , Broxbourne , under the presidency of Bro . G . T . Holdom , W . M . ; Bro . J . G . Twinn , S . W ., and Bro . J . Loftus , J . W ., occupying the vice-chairs . Amongst those present , in

addition to the above , were Miss Holdom , Mrs . Twinn , Mrs . Loftus , Bro . C Veal , P . M ., Mrs . and Miss Veal ; Bro . I . Magrath , P . M ., Mrs . and Master Magrath ; Bro . T . Wooding , P . M ., and Mrs . Wooding ; Bro . W . McCreddie , Sec , and Mrs . McCreddie ; Bro . W . H . Myers , P . M . 820 , and Mrs . Myers ; Bro . and Miss Dawe ; Bro . Hansmann , Bro . and Mrs . Joslin ; Bro . F . H . Dale , Miss

Quail , Bro . Piper , Mr . and Mrs . Anderson ; Miss Conner , Miss Gill , and others to the number of about 40 . The banquet , which was served in first-rate style , and did great credit to the host , Bro . Beningfield , seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by every one present , at the finish of which grace was said , and the usual loyal and other toasts were duly proposed and honoured .

Bro . J OSLIN responded for ' * lhe Visitors , " and expressed the pleasure it had given him to be present on this and similar previous occasions . Bro . F . H . DALE , in responding tothe toast of "The Ladies , " remarked that it was the third time he had had the pleasure and honour of doing so at the summer banquet at that lodge . The CHAIRMAN said he would not detain them longer ,

as the weather was very fine , and he knew they were alt anxious to get out in the gardens . The company then dispersed , some to the gardens and others to the river for boating . _ In the evening tea and coffee was served , and the remainder of the day spent in dancing , a quadrille band having been specially engaged . Altogether a most enjoyable day was spent , and the party returned to town by the last train , declaring that this had been one of the most successful of their summer outings .

Summer Banquet.

SUMMER BANQUET .

The summer banquet and " Ladies' day " of the Henley Lodge , No . 1472 , was celebrated on Wednesday , the 14 th inst ., by a trip to Eastbourne , when some 38 ladies and brethren attended to participate in the outing . The company started from London Bridge in two saloon carriages , and on arriving at Eastbourne , were conveyed in carriages especially provided , to the Queen's Hotel , where an

elegantly appointed lunch awaited them . The next move was a drive to Beachy Head , where it was blowing half a gale , but which was nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed , the beauty and grandeur of "Old Oceans" as its white caps came racing in and breaking in thunder on the shore , having something sublime and fascinating * about it that held the spectators entranced , and made them utterly regardless of

" Old Boreas' " rather too boisterous attentions . The return journey to the town was happily accomplished , and after an hour ' s stroll on the sands the party adjourned to the Queen ' s Hotel , where a recherche * and splendidly served banquet was partaken of . Dessert was served in one of the elegant drawing rooms ol the hotel , where , under the presidency of tbe W . M ., Bro . C . Jolly , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . A . attended to every want . London was reached all safe and well soon after 10 p . m ., where the company separated , each going their devious ways , after many congratulations on a such a memorable and happy festival . First Summer Festival Of The Lion And Lamb Lodge, No. 192.

FIRST SUMMER FESTIVAL OF THE LION AND LAMB LODGE , No . 192 .

The above lodge held its first summer festival on Tuesday , the 20 th inst ., at the Clarence Hotel , Teddington , under the presidentship ot the W . M ., Bro . W . Medwin , There were also present Mrs . Medwin , Mr . H . Medwin , Bro . Stevenson , P . M . ; Mrs . and the Misses Stevenson

Mr . Bradsell , and the Misses Bradsell , Bro . Marsh , P . M . ; Bro . Fisher , J . W . ; Mrs . Fisher , Bro . Bates , Mrs . Bates , Bro . Jay and Mrs . Jay , Bro . Reid , Bro . Potts and Mrs . Potts , Bro . Dart and Mrs . Settree , Bro . Dr . Humphreys and Mrs . Humphreys , Bro . Gibbs , W . M . 1613 ; Mrs . Gibbs , Bro . Geo . Abbott , P . M . and Secretary ; Mrs . and Miss Abbott , Bro . The company assembled at the Waterloo Terminus for the 11 a . m . train , to which were attached luxurious saloon carriages , and , upon arrival at Teddington , carriages were provided for a most enjoyable drive through Bushey Park , Hampton Court , Esher , Sandown , Kingston , and back through Bushey Park to the Hotel , ivbere an excellent banquet was provided by Hosts Messrs . Hall , when , after

partaking of which , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were observed and responded to . Bro . Potts being entrusted with that of " The Ladies , " which was proposed in felicitous terms , and most harmoniously responded to by Bro . Marke . The company afterwards adjourned to the beautiful grounds attached to the Hotel . Singing and dancing was

indulged in to its fullest extent till 9 o'clock , when a reluctant return was made homewards . Some excellent songs were rendered by Bro . Marke , Mr . Bradsell , Bro . Tremere , and Miss Lillie Abbott , who also played some lively dance music . The whole of the arrangements were made and carriedout by Bro . George Abbott much to the satisfaction of all present .

Freemasonry In York.

FREEMASONRY IN YORK .

For some time past , several prominent brethren in York have been anxious to establish in that ancient centre of English Freemasonry a working body in connection with the Royal Order of Scotland ; but it was not until quite lately that the way became clear for the consummation of their wishes . A few months ago , however , application was

made to the ruling body of the Order at Edinburgh , and the result was that a regular petition was forwarded to the Earl of Rosslyn , Deputy Grand Master and Governor of the Order , praying him to constitute a Provincial Grand Lodge for Yorkshire , and nominating Bro , the Rev . Wm . Valentine , M . A ., Rector of Whixley , near York , as the Provincial Grand Master . The petition was signed by

members of the Order residing at York , Hull , Scarbro , Bedale , and Richmond , and , in due course , the request was granted , and the warrant was issued . The York brethren were very anxious to secure the presence of the Deputy Grand Master on the occasion of the ceremony of constitution , and , after some delay , thc ioth July was named by his lordship for the date of his official visitation .

Several members of thc Grand Lodge of the Order in Edinburgh were anxious to take the chance of visiting York , and expressed a desire to have an opportunity of meeting some ol their brethren in Ihe Craft , Accordingly arrangements were made for an emergency meeting on the gth July of Eboracum Lodge , No . 1 G 11 , at the Masonic Hall , St . Saviourgate , for the purpose of welcoming the

visitors from the Northern kingdom . The lodge was opened at 7 P-m . by Bro . T . B . Whytehead , P . M ., who was supported by Bros . C . G . Padel , P . M . ; G . Simpson , P . M . ; J . Blenkin , P . M . ; G . Balmford , P . M . ; Wm . Brown , S . W . ; J . Kay , Sec . ; W . Lackenby , J . D . ; W . Stephenson , I . G . ; W . Storey , J . D . Irving , J . W . Blenkin , W . Sharp , H . Mennell , J . E . Wilkinson , J . L . Spetch , and

others . ihe visitors from Edinburgh consisted of Bros . J . T . S . Elliot , Grand Junior Warden ; D . Murray Lyon , Grand Secretary ; J . Crichton , P . M . ' i ; VV . Edwards , P . M . 3 6 , V . P . G . S . ; R . S . Brown , P . M . 145 , G . S . ; and J . Taylor , P . M . 349 ; and there were also present Bros . D . Scott , 219 ( S . C ); J . Webster , 1 C 0 ( S . C . ) j and W . F . Tomlinson . P . M . 304 ( Leeds ) . The acting W . M . welcomed

the visitors to York , and expressed the pleasure it afforded the Eboracum Lodge to greet so many distinguished brethren upon classic ground ; and Bro . Elliot responded on behalf of the visitors . The lodge was then raised to the Third Degree , and a candidate was conducted through the ceremony . The lodge having been lowered , Bro . Whytehead presented to the lodge three valuable Masonic

engraved portraits of Bros . Thomas Dundas , Prov . Grand Master ; Bishop Wykeham , of Winchester ; and Thomas Locke , which had been framed by Bros . Balmford and Halliwell ; and , after interchange of good wishes , the lodge was closed . An adjournment was made to the supper-room , 'where the brethren entertained their visitors , and subsequently in thc smoke-room there was speech making and harmony , and a most agreeable evening was passed .

Freemasonry In York.

On Saturday morning the Northern brethren were conducted b y Bro . Whytehead to the gardens of the Philosophical Society , to the Merchants' Hall , and to other places of interest , and at 3 p . m . they once more lound themselves in the St . Saviourgate Hall , where preparations had been made for the ceremony of the Royal en e vvere assembled the Right Hon . the Eail of Rosslyn , Deputy Grar . d Master and Governor of the

Order ; Bros . W . Mann , Deputy Grand Governor ; Alexander Hay , G . S . Warden ; Wm . Hay , G . J . Warden ; D Murray Lvon , G . Sec ; C . S . Dickson , G . Treas . ; VVm . Edwards , G . G . of theT . ; J . T . S . Elliot , G . Std . Br . ; R . S . Brown , G . Ex . ; James Crichton , C . I * . Matier , P . D . G . M . Lancashire and Cheshive ; G . P . Bro . kbank , P . D . G . M . ; C . Fendelow ( Wolverhampton ) ; G . J . McKay , Dep . Prov . G . M . Lancashire and Cheshire .

By dispensation a Prov . Grand Lodge was opened by Bro . the Rev . W . Valentine , who was supported by Bros . 1 . W . Woodall , T . B . Whytehead , W . H . Cowper , Wm . Brown , Donald Grant , George Simpson , and others , and thereafter the Grand Lodge was received and saluted . Ihe throne was then taken by the Earl of Rosslyn , and several brethren were advanced to this ancient Order . The Patent of Bro . the Rev . VVm . Valentine as Prov . Grand Master was read , and the Prov . Grand Lodj-e of Yorkshire was constituted , and the Prov . Grand Master installed .

The office bearers were then presented , after which the Earl of ROSSLYN congratulated lhe York brethren upon the formation of the bod y and wished them all success , and the Prov . Grand Master replied on behalf of his brethren .

I he PROV . GRAND MASTER also thanked the Deputy Grand Master and the officers of Grand Lodge for the compliment paid to York Masonry in their attendance on this important occasion , and the Earl of Kos . Iyn , attended by his officers , retired . The following are the officers appointed b y Bro . Valentine : Bros . T . B . Whytehead , Deputy Prov . Grand Master ; W . H . A telegram was read from Bro . the Hon . VV . T . Orde Powlett , from Storen , in Norway , congratulating the brethren , also one from Bro . J . Chadwick , Prov . Grand Sec . lor Lancashire and Cheshire , giving " Hearty good wishes ' from his Provincial Grand Lod _ e . and other letters

and telegrams of a similar nature were read , alttr wbich the Provincial Grand Lodge of Yorkshire was closed . An adjournment was then made to Harker'sYork Hotel , where the Prov . Grand Master presided at an excellent banquet , being supported by Lord Rosslyn and about 24 of thebrethren . At its conclusion , Bro . Valentine having to leave York for Scotland , the chair was taken by Bio . Whytehead , who proceeded to give the u-ual toasts , ami

the health of the Deputy Grand Master of the Older . The Earl of ROSSLYN replied , and in the course of his speech informed the brethren that he had every reason to believe that he should soon have the honour of admitting the Prince of Wales , who would become the Hereditary Grand Master of the Orderin the natural course of events . He concluded by proposing "The Health of the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . lheRev . W . Valentine , " complimenting the York brethren upon the event of the dav .

Bro . W . MANN , Deputy Grand Governor , proposed "Success to the Newly Constituted Provincial Grand Lodge of Yorkshire , " which was responded to by Bro . T . B . WHYTEHEAD , who said it would be the object of the Yorkshire brethren to make their lodge a great success and a model of good working . Bro . W . H . COWPER gave " The Healths of the Members of the Deputation from Grand Lodge , " which was responded to by Bro . ALEXANDER HAY , Senior Grand Warden .

Bro . W . BROWN proposed "The Vistors , " and Bro . C . F . MATIER ( London ) and G . MCKAY ( Lancashire and Cheshire ) responded . Later in the evening the Northern visitors were conducted by Bro . Whytehead to view the old Merchants' HaU in York , which possesses many interesting Masonic associations , and when night fell the party once more drew together and spent some time in fraternal interrhano « of , */ l » = c

On Sunday morning most of the visitors attended the service in the Cathedral , where Bio . Ihe Very Rev . A . P . Purey Cust so worthily and kindly rules , and after lunch ! with Bro . Whytehead , they paid a visit to the hall belong' £ 2 , 1 ° 0 , k Lod S * 23 <> - and were shown by Bio . J . 1 A 11 p afurer ' lheancient Records of Ihe Grand Lodgc of All England , and other notable curiosities . The new adornments of the hall were greatly admired , and durine *

their visit Hro . Whytehead played a selection of Scotch airs on the beautiful organ lately erected . Ihe party next bent their steps to the gardens of the Philosophical Society , and had a delightful ramble amongst the ruins of St . Mary ' s Abbey , the old Roman fortifications , and the Norman Hospital of St . Leonard ' s , and thence to dinner . In the gloaming another sally forth was made , and the citv walls

were circumambulated , all assembling once more about 10 p . m . for a farewell chat , most of the Scotch brethren returning by the midnight train to modern Athens , having spent a most pleasant and improving time in York , and leaving behind them a most agreeable and enduring impression upon the minds of their York entertainers , who are looking forward to an early opportunity of making a Masonic descent upon the City of 1 dinburgh . I he Prince and Princess of Wales and a distinguished company , visited the grounds of the Canadian House , Wimbledon , on Tuesday , for the purpose of witnessing the perfoimance of certain pastoral scenes from Lord Tennyson ' s play of " Becker / ' by Lady Archibald Campbell and otheis .

W . M ., occupying the chair , the visitors being Bros . I . W . Marshall , P . M . OGo , and Major McCachin , P . M . igoi . The business consisted of the raising of Bros . J . Smith and J . L . Spetch to the Third Degree , the ceremonial being performed by Bro . Whytthcad . The VV . M ., Bro . Turner , was heartily congratulated upon his restoration to health , and a most pleasant evening was subsequently spent in the smoke room , where songs and toasts were agreeably interspersed , and a right good Masonic evening was enjoyed .

The new list contained the names of 30 petitioners from London , Wareham , Folkestone , Birkenhead , Leeds , Gloucester , Liverpool , Manchester , Plympton , Hitchen , Chesterfield , i-hanghai , Cabul , Montego Bay , Hyde , Barnet , Budleigh Salterton , Rocking , France , New

York , Sandhurst , Victoria , and Calcutta . Out of these cases two were dismissed , and seven were deferred . The remainder were relieved with a total sum of £ 760 , which was composed of one recommendation of £ 150 ; five of £ s ° each 5 two of £ 40 each ; five of £ 30 each ; four grants for £ 20 each ; one of £ 15 ; three of JCIO each ; and one of £ 5 .

THE ANNUAL SUMMER BANQUET AND LADIES' DAY OF THE LODGE OF ST . JOHN , No . 1306 .

The sixth annual summer banquet and ladies' day took place on Thursday , the 15 th inst ., at the Crown Hotel , Broxbourne , under the presidency of Bro . G . T . Holdom , W . M . ; Bro . J . G . Twinn , S . W ., and Bro . J . Loftus , J . W ., occupying the vice-chairs . Amongst those present , in

addition to the above , were Miss Holdom , Mrs . Twinn , Mrs . Loftus , Bro . C Veal , P . M ., Mrs . and Miss Veal ; Bro . I . Magrath , P . M ., Mrs . and Master Magrath ; Bro . T . Wooding , P . M ., and Mrs . Wooding ; Bro . W . McCreddie , Sec , and Mrs . McCreddie ; Bro . W . H . Myers , P . M . 820 , and Mrs . Myers ; Bro . and Miss Dawe ; Bro . Hansmann , Bro . and Mrs . Joslin ; Bro . The banquet , which was served in first-rate style , and did great credit to the host , Bro . Beningfield , seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by every one present , at the finish of which grace was said , and the usual loyal and other toasts were duly proposed and honoured .

Bro . J OSLIN responded for ' * lhe Visitors , " and expressed the pleasure it had given him to be present on this and similar previous occasions . Bro . F . H . DALE , in responding tothe toast of "The Ladies , " remarked that it was the third time he had had the pleasure and honour of doing so at the summer banquet at that lodge . The CHAIRMAN said he would not detain them longer ,

as the weather was very fine , and he knew they were alt anxious to get out in the gardens . The company then dispersed , some to the gardens and others to the river for boating . _ In the evening tea and coffee was served , and the remainder of the day spent in dancing , a quadrille band having been specially engaged . Altogether a most enjoyable day was spent , and the party returned to town by the last train , declaring that this had been one of the most successful of their summer outings .

SUMMER BANQUET .

The summer banquet and " Ladies' day " of the Henley Lodge , No . 1472 , was celebrated on Wednesday , the 14 th inst ., by a trip to Eastbourne , when some 38 ladies and brethren attended to participate in the outing . The company started from London Bridge in two saloon carriages , and on arriving at Eastbourne , were conveyed in carriages especially provided , to the Queen's Hotel , where an

elegantly appointed lunch awaited them . The next move was a drive to Beachy Head , where it was blowing half a gale , but which was nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed , the beauty and grandeur of "Old Oceans" as its white caps came racing in and breaking in thunder on the shore , having something sublime and fascinating * about it that held the spectators entranced , and made them utterly regardless of

" Old Boreas' " rather too boisterous attentions . The return journey to the town was happily accomplished , and after an hour ' s stroll on the sands the party adjourned to the Queen ' s Hotel , where a recherche * and splendidly served banquet was partaken of . Dessert was served in one of the elegant drawing rooms ol the hotel , where , under the presidency of tbe W . M ., Bro . C . Jolly , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . A . The company assembled at the Waterloo Terminus for the 11 a . m . train , to which were attached luxurious saloon carriages , and , upon arrival at Teddington , carriages were provided for a most enjoyable drive through Bushey Park , Hampton Court , Esher , Sandown , Kingston , and back through Bushey Park to the Hotel , ivbere an excellent banquet was provided by Hosts Messrs . Hall , when , after

partaking of which , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were observed and responded to . Bro . Potts being entrusted with that of " The Ladies , " which was proposed in felicitous terms , and most harmoniously responded to by Bro . Marke . The company afterwards adjourned to the beautiful grounds attached to the Hotel . Singing and dancing was

indulged in to its fullest extent till 9 o'clock , when a reluctant return was made homewards . Some excellent songs were rendered by Bro . Marke , Mr . Bradsell , Bro . Tremere , and Miss Lillie Abbott , who also played some lively dance music . The whole of the arrangements were made and carriedout by Bro . George Abbott much to the satisfaction of all present .

Freemasonry In York.

FREEMASONRY IN YORK .

For some time past , several prominent brethren in York have been anxious to establish in that ancient centre of English Freemasonry a working body in connection with the Royal Order of Scotland ; but it was not until quite lately that the way became clear for the consummation of their wishes . A few months ago , however , application was

made to the ruling body of the Order at Edinburgh , and the result was that a regular petition was forwarded to the Earl of Rosslyn , Deputy Grand Master and Governor of the Order , praying him to constitute a Provincial Grand Lodge for Yorkshire , and nominating Bro , the Rev . Wm . Valentine , M . A ., Rector of Whixley , near York , as the Provincial Grand Master . The petition was signed by

members of the Order residing at York , Hull , Scarbro , Bedale , and Richmond , and , in due course , the request was granted , and the warrant was issued . The York brethren were very anxious to secure the presence of the Deputy Grand Master on the occasion of the ceremony of constitution , and , after some delay , thc ioth July was named by his lordship for the date of his official visitation .

Several members of thc Grand Lodge of the Order in Edinburgh were anxious to take the chance of visiting York , and expressed a desire to have an opportunity of meeting some ol their brethren in Ihe Craft , Accordingly arrangements were made for an emergency meeting on the gth July of Eboracum Lodge , No . 1 G 11 , at the Masonic Hall , St . Saviourgate , for the purpose of welcoming the

visitors from the Northern kingdom . The lodge was opened at 7 P-m . by Bro . T . B . Whytehead , P . M ., who was supported by Bros . C . G . Padel , P . M . ; G . Simpson , P . M . ; J . Blenkin , P . M . ; G . Balmford , P . M . ; Wm . Brown , S . W . ; J . Kay , Sec . ; W . Lackenby , J . D . ; W . Stephenson , I . G . ; W . Storey , J . D . Irving , J . W . Blenkin , W . Sharp , H . Mennell , J . E . Wilkinson , J . L . Spetch , and

the visitors to York , and expressed the pleasure it afforded the Eboracum Lodge to greet so many distinguished brethren upon classic ground ; and Bro . Elliot responded on behalf of the visitors . The lodge was then raised to the Third Degree , and a candidate was conducted through the ceremony . The lodge having been lowered , Bro . Whytehead presented to the lodge three valuable Masonic

engraved portraits of Bros . Thomas Dundas , Prov . Grand Master ; Bishop Wykeham , of Winchester ; and Thomas Locke , which had been framed by Bros . Balmford and Halliwell ; and , after interchange of good wishes , the lodge was closed . An adjournment was made to the supper-room , 'where the brethren entertained their visitors , and subsequently in thc smoke-room there was speech making and harmony , and a most agreeable evening was passed .

On Saturday morning the Northern brethren were conducted b y Bro . Whytehead to the gardens of the Philosophical Society , to the Merchants' Hall , and to other places of interest , and at 3 p . m . they once more lound themselves in the St . Saviourgate Hall , where preparations had been made for the ceremony of the Royal en e vvere assembled the Right Hon . the Eail of Rosslyn , Deputy Grar . d Master and Governor of the

Order ; Bros . W . Mann , Deputy Grand Governor ; Alexander Hay , G . S . Warden ; Wm . Hay , G . J . Warden ; D Murray Lvon , G . Sec ; C . S . Dickson , G . Treas . ; VVm . Edwards , G . By dispensation a Prov . Grand Lodge was opened by Bro . the Rev . W . Valentine , who was supported by Bros . 1 . W . Woodall , T . B . Whytehead , W . H . Cowper , Wm . Brown , Donald Grant , George Simpson , and others , and thereafter the Grand Lodge was received and saluted . Ihe throne was then taken by the Earl of Rosslyn , and several brethren were advanced to this ancient Order . The Patent of Bro . the Rev . VVm . Valentine as Prov . Grand Master was read , and the Prov . Grand Lodj-e of Yorkshire was constituted , and the Prov . Grand Master installed .

The office bearers were then presented , after which the Earl of ROSSLYN congratulated lhe York brethren upon the formation of the bod y and wished them all success , and the Prov . Grand Master replied on behalf of his brethren .

I he PROV . GRAND MASTER also thanked the Deputy Grand Master and the officers of Grand Lodge for the compliment paid to York Masonry in their attendance on this important occasion , and the Earl of Kos . and telegrams of a similar nature were read , alttr wbich the Provincial Grand Lodge of Yorkshire was closed . An adjournment was then made to Harker'sYork Hotel , where the Prov . Grand Master presided at an excellent banquet , being supported by Lord Rosslyn and about 24 of thebrethren . At its conclusion , Bro . Valentine having to leave York for Scotland , the chair was taken by Bio . Whytehead , who proceeded to give the u-ual toasts , ami

the health of the Deputy Grand Master of the Older . The Earl of ROSSLYN replied , and in the course of his speech informed the brethren that he had every reason to believe that he should soon have the honour of admitting the Prince of Wales , who would become the Hereditary Grand Master of the Orderin the natural course of events . He concluded by proposing "The Health of the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . lheRev . W . Valentine , " complimenting the York brethren upon the event of the dav .

Bro . W . MANN , Deputy Grand Governor , proposed "Success to the Newly Constituted Provincial Grand Lodge of Yorkshire , " which was responded to by Bro . T . B . WHYTEHEAD , who said it would be the object of the Yorkshire brethren to make their lodge a great success and a model of good working . Bro . W . H . COWPER gave " The Healths of the Members of the Deputation from Grand Lodge , " which was responded to by Bro . ALEXANDER HAY , Senior Grand Warden .

Bro . W . BROWN proposed "The Vistors , " and Bro . C . F . MATIER ( London ) and G . MCKAY ( Lancashire and Cheshire ) responded . Later in the evening the Northern visitors were conducted by Bro . Whytehead to view the old Merchants' HaU in York , which possesses many interesting Masonic associations , and when night fell the party once more drew together and spent some time in fraternal interrhano « of , */ l » = c

On Sunday morning most of the visitors attended the service in the Cathedral , where Bio . Ihe Very Rev . A . P . Purey Cust so worthily and kindly rules , and after lunch ! with Bro . Whytehead , they paid a visit to the hall belong' £ 2 , 1 ° 0 , k Lod S * 23 <> - and were shown by Bio . J . 1 A 11 p afurer ' lheancient Records of Ihe Grand Lodgc of All England , and other notable curiosities . The new adornments of the hall were greatly admired , and durine *

their visit Hro . Whytehead played a selection of Scotch airs on the beautiful organ lately erected . Ihe party next bent their steps to the gardens of the Philosophical Society , and had a delightful ramble amongst the ruins of St . Mary ' s Abbey , the old Roman fortifications , and the Norman Hospital of St . Leonard ' s , and thence to dinner . In the gloaming another sally forth was made , and the citv walls

were circumambulated , all assembling once more about 10 p . m . for a farewell chat , most of the Scotch brethren returning by the midnight train to modern Athens , having spent a most pleasant and improving time in York , and leaving behind them a most agreeable and enduring impression upon the minds of their York entertainers , who are looking forward to an early opportunity of making a Masonic descent upon the City of 1 dinburgh . I he Prince and Princess of Wales and a distinguished company , visited the grounds of the Canadian House , Wimbledon , on Tuesday , for the purpose of witnessing the perfoimance of certain pastoral scenes from Lord Tennyson ' s play of " Becker / ' by Lady Archibald Campbell and otheis .

Spetch to the Third Degree , the ceremonial being performed by Bro . Whytthcad . The VV . M ., Bro . Turner , was heartily congratulated upon his restoration to health , and a most pleasant evening was subsequently spent in the smoke room , where songs and toasts were agreeably interspersed , and a right good Masonic evening was enjoyed .
