The usual addresses were then delivered by the Installing Officer , Bro . VV . H . Lee , in his well-known masterly

manner . Bro . Vassila , W . M ., then initiated Mr . Frank Smith into Freemasonry , and special praise is due to the VV . M . for his impressive rendering of this ceremony , Ihis being his first attejnpt . A vote of thanks was ordered to be recorded on the minutes to Bro . W , H . Lee for his kindness in performing the installation ceremony that day . Bro . Lee briefly returned thanks , and assured the brethren that he was at all times willing to do his utmost for

the welfare of the Lebanon Lodge . A vote of thanks was also passed to Bro . Marsh , P . M ., who had generously undertaken the duties of VV . M . during the past year . Propositions and notices of motion having been received for the next meeting , lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a substantial banquet . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were afterwards duly honoured . "The Queen and the Craft" and

"H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " having been heartily received , Bro . Vassila , W . M ., proposed " The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and expressed the pleasure he felt at seeing a Grand Officer among them , and added that his pleasure was considerably increased by the / act that the Grand Officers were represented on that occasion by their esteemed P . G . M ., Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett .

Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., P . G . W ., P . G . M . Middx ., said it always gave him great pleasure to respond to that toast , but on the present occasion it afforded him unusual pleasure , as the brethren bad received it with hearty enthusiasm . The Grand Officers hailed with pleasure those W . M . ' s and Wardens who attended Grand Lodge , and supported the Grand Officers so cordially . He had watched with interest the progress made in the

Masonic world , and he was convinced that there had been progress made in the choice of Grand Officers , for they consisted of the most eminent men in the country . He thanked them for the hearty reception accorded the toast and assured them of the interest taken by the Grand Officers in everything connnected with the welfare of the Craft . The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Health of

the R . W . Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., Prov . G . M . Middx . " In submitting this toast the W . M . remarked that as he was confident it would be warmly received he would content himself by saying that their Prov . G . M ., Bto . Sir Francis Burdett , had by his kind and genial manner endeared himself to every Mason in the province . Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Prov . G . M . Middx ,, in reply , said his first duty was to thank the brethren for the

cordial manner in which they had received the toast . He assured themthat it always gave him the greatest pleasure to visit them in the province , but on account of the number of lodges he was not able to visit them as often as he might wish . Seventeen yearn ago , before there was a Prov . Grand Master appointed , the idea was not entertained that he would he presiding over a province which numbered 35 lodges . He had now the pleasure of addressing the members of one of the largest lodges in the province and one

that had rendered valuable service 10 the cause of Masonic Charity . Through ^ the excellence of the P . M . 's and the indefatigable energies of the Secretary , the Lebanon Lodge had been progressing since its consecration , until it had arrived at its present prosperous condition which few lodges could surpass . It afforded him considerable pleasure to preside over a province that had made such progress . He had to thank them for the kind support that was always given him and for the cordial welcome he invariably received .

The Health of the Prov . Grand Officers " was given by Bro . Forss , who asked the brethren to give the P . G , Officers a hearty welcome . They had each earned their distinction , and had contributed by their energy to the present prosperous condition of the province .

Bros . Vassila , P . G . Std . Br . j Walters , P . P . G . D . Middx . j and Briggs , P . G . Stwd . Middx ., returned thanks on behalf ot the Prov . G . Officers . They thanked the P . G . M . for the honour he had conferred upon thc lodge , and assured him of the hearty co-operation and support of the Prov . G . Officers .

'The Worshipful Master" was proposed by Bro . Marsh , P . M ., who remarked that this toast was one that Was always received with pleasure , and the present instance Would be no exception to that rule . Bro . Vassila had proved himself worthy of the position of W . M ., and equal to the task of satisfactorily performing the duties of the chair . Bro . Vassila , VV . M ., returned thanks for the hnnmir

conferred upon him by electing him to the chair , and assured the brethren of his intention to maintain the presage of the lodge . " The Initiate " having been given , and responded to by Bro . Smith , ' n The Worshipful Master proposed " The Installing utticer , and observed that the admirable manner in which " Tv , ,, e 1 ad Performed the ceremony had impressed all Who had htard him .

LANDPORT .-United Service Lodge ( No . 1428 ) . —There was a large gathering of brethren on Friday , the gth inst ., to witness the installation of Bro . Edwin Pratt , W . M . elect of the above lodge , which took place at the Masonic Club , Commercial-road . The ceremony was duly and impressively performed by the retiring VV . M ., Bro . J . Jackson . The new-elected VV . M . having duly invested

the various officers , the retiring VV . M . was presented with a valuable P . M . 's jewel , subscribed for by the members of the lodge , in recognition of the valuable services he had rendered to the lodge and to the Craft in general . An elegant and costly jewel was also presented to Bro . Williams , in recognition of his five years' service as Treasurer of the lodge , during which time he had given the greatest satisfaction to every member of the Iodee . and

a Past Secretary ' s jewel was given to Bro . Laverty , P . M ., P . P . G . A . D . C , on his retiring from office as Secretary , and for his four years' service in other offices . The three jewels were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . After the business cf the lodge was over , the brethren and visitors partook of a splendid banquet , served in the banqueting room of the lodge by Bro . Baybour , of Portsea .

CHESTER . —Dee Lodge ( No . 1576 ) . —This eminent lodge held their annual meeting on the 15 th inst . at the Union Hotel , Parkgate , in the handsome room that has been fitted up and appropriated for their accommodation . The installation of the Worshipful Master ( Lieut . J . Morris ) for the ensuing year took place with the usual solemn ceremonies , and the address was impressively rendered by Bro . recogni-, tion of the very able manner in which he had presided over the lodge during the past year . Two noteworth y speeches were delivered in the course of the evening , one by Bro . Ramsden , P . M ., on behalf of the Cheshire Masonic Charities , and very ably responded to by Bro . Thos . Chesworth , P . M ., who explained in a lucid manner the workings of this beneficent Institution , lhe other

speech was from thc Prov . G . Chaplain , Shropshire , who enlarged upon the fraternal feelings exhibited by the Craft to their visiting brethren . Both these speeches werc honoured with great applause . After the customary business of the day had concluded , and the lodge closed , the members sat down to a very

handsomely provided banquet . The loyal and other general toasts were given and responded to . The music and singing compiised duets by Bros . Rowlands and Jones , of the Cambrian quaitette , and songs by Bros . Shepperd , Smith , and others . Bro . A . J . Phipps contributed greatly to the pleasure of the evening by his masterly performance .

HALIFAX . —St . John ' s Lodge ( No . 1736 . JThe annual meeting of this lodge took place on the 7 th inst ., in the Masonic Rooms , Bull Green . The VV . M ., Bro . J . H . Bolton , occupied the chair . Me was supported by several Provincial Grand Officers as well as the W . M . ' s of Halifax lodges and visiting brethren from many parts of the province and Lancashire . Bro . A . E . Dalzell was

passed to the Second Degree by the W . M . Bro . W . J . Terrell was then installed into the chair of K . S . by the VV . M ., Bro . J . H . Bolton , the ceremony being beautifully rendered . Bro . manner . Bro . Vassila , W . M ., then initiated Mr . Frank Smith into Freemasonry , and special praise is due to the VV . M . for his impressive rendering of this ceremony , Ihis being his first attejnpt . A vote of thanks was ordered to be recorded on the minutes to Bro . W , H . Lee for his kindness in performing the installation ceremony that day . Bro . Lee briefly returned thanks , and assured the brethren that he was at all times willing to do his utmost for

the welfare of the Lebanon Lodge . A vote of thanks was also passed to Bro . Marsh , P . M ., who had generously undertaken the duties of VV . M . during the past year . Propositions and notices of motion having been received for the next meeting , lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a substantial banquet . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were afterwards duly honoured . "The Queen and the Craft" and

"H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " having been heartily received , Bro . Vassila , W . M ., proposed " The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and expressed the pleasure he felt at seeing a Grand Officer among them , and added that his pleasure was considerably increased by the / act that the Grand Officers were represented on that occasion by their esteemed P . G . M ., Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett .

Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., P . G . W ., P . G . M . Middx ., said it always gave him great pleasure to respond to that toast , but on the present occasion it afforded him unusual pleasure , as the brethren bad received it with hearty enthusiasm . The Grand Officers hailed with pleasure those W . M . ' s and Wardens who attended Grand Lodge , and supported the Grand Officers so cordially . He had watched with interest the progress made in the

Masonic world , and he was convinced that there had been progress made in the choice of Grand Officers , for they consisted of the most eminent men in the country . He thanked them for the hearty reception accorded the toast and assured them of the interest taken by the Grand Officers in everything connnected with the welfare of the Craft . The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Health of

the R . W . Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., Prov . G . M . Middx . " In submitting this toast the W . M . remarked that as he was confident it would be warmly received he would content himself by saying that their Prov . G . M ., Bto . Sir Francis Burdett , had by his kind and genial manner endeared himself to every Mason in the province . Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Prov . G . M . Middx ,, in reply , said his first duty was to thank the brethren for the

cordial manner in which they had received the toast . He assured themthat it always gave him the greatest pleasure to visit them in the province , but on account of the number of lodges he was not able to visit them as often as he might wish . Seventeen yearn ago , before there was a Prov . Grand Master appointed , the idea was not entertained that he would he presiding over a province which numbered 35 lodges . He had now the pleasure of addressing the members of one of the largest lodges in the province and one

that had rendered valuable service 10 the cause of Masonic Charity . Through ^ the excellence of the P . M . 's and the indefatigable energies of the Secretary , the Lebanon Lodge had been progressing since its consecration , until it had arrived at its present prosperous condition which few lodges could surpass . It afforded him considerable pleasure to preside over a province that had made such progress . He had to thank them for the kind support that was always given him and for the cordial welcome he invariably received .

The Health of the Prov . Grand Officers " was given by Bro . Forss , who asked the brethren to give the P . G , Officers a hearty welcome . They had each earned their distinction , and had contributed by their energy to the present prosperous condition of the province .

Bros . Vassila , P . G . Std . Br . j Walters , P . P . G . D . Middx . j and Briggs , P . G . Stwd . Middx ., returned thanks on behalf ot the Prov . G . Officers . They thanked the P . G . M . for the honour he had conferred upon thc lodge , and assured him of the hearty co-operation and support of the Prov . G . Officers .

'The Worshipful Master" was proposed by Bro . Marsh , P . M ., who remarked that this toast was one that Was always received with pleasure , and the present instance Would be no exception to that rule . Bro . Vassila had proved himself worthy of the position of W . M ., and equal to the task of satisfactorily performing the duties of the chair . Bro . Vassila , VV . M ., returned thanks for the hnnmir

conferred upon him by electing him to the chair , and assured the brethren of his intention to maintain the presage of the lodge . " The Initiate " having been given , and responded to by Bro . LANDPORT .-United Service Lodge ( No . 1428 ) . —There was a large gathering of brethren on Friday , the gth inst ., to witness the installation of Bro . Edwin Pratt , W . M . elect of the above lodge , which took place at the Masonic Club , Commercial-road . The ceremony was duly and impressively performed by the retiring VV . M ., Bro . J . Jackson . The new-elected VV . M . having duly invested

the various officers , the retiring VV . M . was presented with a valuable P . M . 's jewel , subscribed for by the members of the lodge , in recognition of the valuable services he had rendered to the lodge and to the Craft in general . An elegant and costly jewel was also presented to Bro . Williams , in recognition of his five years' service as Treasurer of the lodge , during which time he had given the greatest satisfaction to every member of the Iodee . and

a Past Secretary ' s jewel was given to Bro . Laverty , P . M ., P . P . G . A . D . C , on his retiring from office as Secretary , and for his four years' service in other offices . The three jewels were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning . After the business cf the lodge was over , the brethren and visitors partook of a splendid banquet , served in the banqueting room of the lodge by Bro . Baybour , of Portsea .

The installation of the Worshipful Master ( Lieut . J . Morris ) for the ensuing year took place with the usual solemn ceremonies , and the address was impressively rendered by Bro . M ., on behalf of the Cheshire Masonic Charities , and very ably responded to by Bro . Thos . Chesworth , P . M ., who explained in a lucid manner the workings of this beneficent Institution , lhe other

speech was from thc Prov . G . Chaplain , Shropshire , who enlarged upon the fraternal feelings exhibited by the Craft to their visiting brethren . Both these speeches werc honoured with great applause . After the customary business of the day had concluded , and the lodge closed , the members sat down to a very

handsomely provided banquet . The loyal and other general toasts were given and responded to . The music and singing compiised duets by Bros . Rowlands and Jones , of the Cambrian quaitette , and songs by Bros . Shepperd , Smith , and others . Bro . A . J . Phipps contributed greatly to the pleasure of the evening by his masterly performance .

HALIFAX . —St . John ' s Lodge ( No . 1736 . JThe annual meeting of this lodge took place on the 7 th inst ., in the Masonic Rooms , Bull Green . The VV . M ., Bro . J . H . Bolton , occupied the chair . Me was supported by several Provincial Grand Officers as well as the W . M . ' s of Halifax lodges and visiting brethren from many parts of the province and Lancashire .
