The acting W . M ., Bro . H . Goodacre Marriott . 202 S , desired W . Bro . J . T . Thorp , P . M . 523 , P . P . S . G . W ., to present the jewel , on behalf of the brethren , to Bro . E . P . Steeds , S . W . 20 S 1 , J . W . 1007 , 1391 , which was accordingly done in Bro . Thorp ' s usual able manner , allusion being made to the excellent services rendered by the recipient during the

several years he had held the trinity of offices in the lodge . The jewel , which is of stealing silver , was specially"designed to indicate the emblems of the various ollices intended to be represented , and bore a suitable inscription . Bro . Steeds duly acknowledged the gift of such a handsome recognition of the work he had done , intimating that he should continue to take an active interest in the future career of the lodge . proposed the usual toasts , and during the evening presented Comp . G . Cooper with a massive jewel , as a mark of esteem from the members for his services to the chapter since its commencement . We need hardly add that the musical arrangements ^ were of that description for which the Orpheus Chapter is so noted . The jewels were manufactured by Comp . George Kenning .

GUILDFORD . —Percy Lodge ( No . 114 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Angel Hotel on Wednesday , the 14 th inst ., amongst those present being Bros . ' . Binckes , G . S . ; Piggott , P . P . G . R .,- Drewitt , Wells , Collier , Day , White , Thomson , and others . The lodge having been opened according to ancient custom by the VV . M ., Bro . Charles Belton , P . P . G . S . of Works , and

the revised copy of the bye-laws having been duly confirmed , Bro . Binckes , G . S ., proceeded to install Bro . D . P . Cama , G . Stwd . ( the well-known and much esteemed Parsee merchant ) , in the chair . The ceremony was performed by the Grand Secretary in his usual masterly manner , and , although suffering from severe indisposition , he came expressly from London to install Bro . Cama , who has done so much for our Masonic Charities . The VV . M . then invested

his officers , and gave the addresses in the most effective and impressive manner . Several candidates for advancement and as joining members having been proposed , the next meeting of the lodge was announced for the third Thursday in November . The musical arrangements , both during the ceremony and at the subsequent banquet , were most efficiently carried out by Bro . J . C . Graham , P . P . G . O .

BRO . WILLIAM MILLER BRYCE . By the death of Bro . William Miller Bryce , of Marchmont-crescent , Edinburgh , the Grand Lodge of Scotland has lost one of its oldest and most efficient office-bearers . For upwards of thirty years . he filled the post , first ot Assistant and afterwards of Grand Tyler , and he acted in a similar capacity in the higher Degree of Masonry . He

was hall keeper from the date of the erection of the . Masonic Buildings in George-street down to a few years ago , when he retired owing to his advanced age . Bro . Bryce was a great favourite with the Craft , and was held in hig h regard by the many members of Grand Lodge with whom

he was brought into close contact for the uniform courtesy and urbanity which characterised all his official acts . Ho was known more or less to most Masons throughout Scotland , and had a large acquaintance in the different provinces visited by Grand Lodge during the last quarter of a century .

BRO . PHILIP FRANCIS SIMCOE . The members of the Dunheved Lodge , No . 7 S 9 , as also of the Province of Cornwall , have been much grieved to hear of the decease of Bro . Philip Francis Simcoe , of Penheale , near Launceston . Bro . Simcoe was an active member of the Fraternity , and had risen to high honours in the Society . In 1 S 74 he was Senior Warden of his mother

lodge , No . 789 , Launceston , and served as the Master in the following year . In 1 S 77 , when the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cornwall was held at Launceston , Lord Mount Edgcumbe , as Provincial Grand Master , appointed him 3 s one of the Provincial Grand Stewards , and in 18 S 0 , at bt . Ives , the R . W . brother bestowed upon Bro . Simcoe one 01 the highest offices in the province , viv ., Prov . Grand Senior

Warden . Of the Dunheved Royal Arch Chapter CoWPSimcoe was First Principal in 1 SS 0 ; he was likewise a member of the Restormel Preceptory , No . 90 , T ywardrcatl ' i and of the Cornwall Rose Croix Chapter , Truro , in wliic " he had held office . He will be much missed by the brethreni by whom he was esteemed and trusted as one of the clue members of the Craft in the province .
