and admitted and saluted , and after the investiture of the oflicers , Bros . Lamonby and Dalrymple , by request of the newly-installed Master , delivered the customary addresses . The general business of the lodge having been transacted , and a vote of thanks to the Installing Master passed , Bros . VVard and Dalrymple were invited to unveil and present to Bro . Josep h Kerby , I . P . M . of the lodge , a bsautiful oil

painting of himself from the members of the Curwen Lodge . Bro . Dalrymple said nothing could give him more pleasure than , at the request of the newly-installed Master , Bro . Thomas , to discharge the duty he had been invited to perform , and more so from the fact that the I . P . M . of that lodge not only merited the respect of its members , but the province . It could not be said he was an old Mason , but ,

without a word of fiction , he had been an earnest one . From the day of his first appointment to office to that of the ancient chair , the work of the lodge had been carried on with a precision worthy of admiration , and it was his genial manner to others , actuated by the purest motives for the well-being of his lodge and the Craft , that the members of that lodge desired him to be the recipient of that

wellexecuted work of art , to perpetuate in some measure the memory of one that they could not but designate a pillar of strength by word and practice in that his mother lodge j and it was not only the united wish of the members of 1400 , but all the brethren present that their worth y Bro . Kerby and family , who one and all have a voice in the Masonic Charities , would be long spared to enjoy that handsome

gift . Bro . Kerby feelingly replied , and thanked the members of the lodge for their quite unexpected present , and said that in the time to come as in the past no effort would be wanting on his part to try and further the interests of the lodge , also that of Masonry , which had been a source of great pleasure to him since his initiation . Upon the removal of the cloth the usual toasts followed . Comp . G . Everett , Grand Treasurer , responded on behalf of "The Grand Officers" in a very able manner . Without straining at effect , he invariably succeeds in saying something that interests without boring his audience . In replying to the toast of "The Exaltees , " Comps . Parratt and Whitney expressed themselves as being gratified , not only in being admitted to the Kennington

Chapter , but with the beauty and impressiveness of the ceremony . Comps . Tichenor , Hartley , Eedle , and Bailey acknowledged " The Health of the Visitors . " Comp . Westley responded on behalf of "The P . Z . 's " j Comps . Everett and Higgins for " The Treasurer and S . E . " ; and Comps . Sims and Smith for " The Officers . " During the evening Comps . Everett , Lundie , Buxton , Eedle , and others vocally entertained the companions .

gate , where a lovely little banquet was thoroughly enjoyed by the companions . The usual loyal and Royal Arch toasts were honoured , and enlivened by the splendid instrumentation of Comps . Tyler and Horton , and the fine singing of Comp . Hobson and others , as also that of Mr . Mason , the son of the proprieto- of the hotel . The admirable working of Comp . Palmer and his colleagues in the chapter , and the after banquet amenities made the occasion a most effective and enjoyable one .

The general business of the lodge having been transacted , and a vote of thanks to the Installing Master passed , Bros . VVard and Dalrymple were invited to unveil and present to Bro . Josep h Kerby , I . P . M . of the lodge , a bsautiful oil

painting of himself from the members of the Curwen Lodge . Bro . Dalrymple said nothing could give him more pleasure than , at the request of the newly-installed Master , Bro . Thomas , to discharge the duty he had been invited to perform , and more so from the fact that the I . P . M . of that lodge not only merited the respect of its members , but the province . It could not be said he was an old Mason , but ,

without a word of fiction , he had been an earnest one . From the day of his first appointment to office to that of the ancient chair , the work of the lodge had been carried on with a precision worthy of admiration , and it was his genial manner to others , actuated by the purest motives for the well-being of his lodge and the Craft , that the members of that lodge desired him to be the recipient of that

wellexecuted work of art , to perpetuate in some measure the memory of one that they could not but designate a pillar of strength by word and practice in that his mother lodge j and it was not only the united wish of the members of 1400 , but all the brethren present that their worth y Bro . Kerby and family , who one and all have a voice in the Masonic Charities , would be long spared to enjoy that handsome

gift . Bro . Kerby feelingly replied , and thanked the members of the lodge for their quite unexpected present , and said that in the time to come as in the past no effort would be wanting on his part to try and further the interests of the lodge , also that of Masonry , which had been a source of great pleasure to him since his initiation .
