the general public . The service was conducted by the Prov . G . Chaps ., Bros . Dr . Watt and Dr . Tullock , while the praise was led by a select choir , under Bros . Gideon Duncan , Prov . Grand Director of Music , and Robert Buchanan , Prov , 1 . G . Org . Bro . Dr . WATT preached a short sermon appropriate to the occasion from a text from the 40 th chapter of Isaiah— " Prepare ye the way of the Lord ; make ctraiuht in the desert a highway for our God . "

The general body of the Craft had meantime been marshalled in Great Cly de-street , from whence they proceeded through St . Enoch-square , where they were joined by the Prov . Grand Lodge up Buchanan-street , where they fell into the rear of an imposing procession of the Corporation employes , who had been marshalled in Blythswood-square , round George-square , across Stockwell-street Bridge , into Carlton-place , gaining admittance to the bridge from the south side .

The authorities had made ample provision for seating a large assembly of onlookers on the old bridge , but , unfortunately , the proceedings here were greatly spoiled by the inclemency of the weather , as there fell some very heavy showers of rain , accompanied by a high wind . When the officiating brethren had all taken up their positions , the ceremony of laying the stone was immediately proceeded with .

The Prov . Grand Lodge afterwards re-formed , and returned to the subway building , where Prov . Grand Lodge was closed . Among the emblems of interest carried in the Masonic procession were the working tools carried by 10 members of the Lodge of Glasgow St . John , 3 Bis , the senior lodge in the province , and an old flag carried by the members of Glasgow Kilwinning Lodge , No . 4 , that was carried at the laying of the fonndation-stone of the first bridge built on the site of the present structure on the 29 th September , 1768 .

The Corporation in the evening entertained about 300 citizens in the banqueting hall of the Municipal Buildings , at which the Hon . the Lord Provost presided . ,

JUBILEE OF THE LODGE OF HONOUR , No . 526 , AT WOLVERHAMPTON .

The 50 th anniversary of the foundation of the above lodge was celebrated on Tuesday , the 13 th instant , when an emergency meeting was held in the afternoon and a banquet in the evening in the Assembly Room of the Exchange Hall , Wolverhampton . The first meeting of the lodge was held in the Mechanics ' Institute , Queen-street , on August 17 th , 1846 . Of the original founders , Bro .

Hicklin , a former Mayor of the borough , is the sole survivor . The Lodge of Honour has had amongst its Masters the late Earl of Shrewsbury , Col . Tudor , the late Col . Foster Gough , and other distinguished brethren , whilst its list of members has included the Rev . the Marquis of Normanby , the late Bishop of New Westminster , seven gentlemen who have filled the office of Mayor of the town , three who have officiated as Town Clerk , three rectors of St . Peter ' s Church , two who have filled the position of Chief Constable , the late Dr . Slade , the late Rev . J . Osmond Dakeyne , and the late Archdeacon lies .

He should endeavour in the future , as he had done in the past , to follow the example of those who had held the honoured position he occupied .

MEDICAL SERVICE IN Sr . PAUL ' S CATHEDRAL . —The late Archbishop of Canter" ury , at the request of the Guild of St . Luke , had arranged to preach before the meiicai profession at St . Paul ' s Cathedral on the atst inst ., at 7 . 30 p . m . The Bishop w stepney took his place . More than 250 eminent medical men had promised to b : Present in their robes . All medical practitioners resident in London had bein invited to attend in acadjmical costume . " It is , " we are informed , "intended to institute a Mrvice for Medicine similar to one which now exists for the Liw , when H . M . judges « tend the Cathedral in State . The brethren , to the number of 36 , afterwards sat down to one of those sumptuous suppers that Bro . Blackley , the manager , so well knows how to provide , and which is making this well-managed hotel so increasingly popular with the Craft . The W . M . presided over the proceedings with that geniality and tact which becomes him so well , and which has made him so popular with the lodge . The various toasts were given by him in crisp and apposite language .

A most enjoyable musical programme was arranged by the Secretary , who was warmly thanked for having secured the attendance of Bro . W . IL Berry , 1 S 17 . This popular and rising humorist and facial comedian had ti gi / e no less than six item 1 , "bringing down the house " each time . The lastjwords of the members ot 212 S to Bro .
