BRO . J . S . JARVIS . It is with regret that we announce the death of Bro . John Stephen Jarvis , formerly of the well-known firm of Dent , Allcroft , and Co ., who is said to have been chiefly instrumental in introducing the modern tie as an improvement upon the stock which was in vogue till about 30 years ago . Bro . Jarvis , who had
attained the ripe age of 77 yetrs , was initiated on the 9 th March , 1855 , and was a member of the Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 . We tender our sympathy with the members of his family . The funeral of Bro . J . S . Jarvis took place on Wednesdayat Norwood Cemetery . Mr . A . Powell , one of the partners of the firm , was present , and the wreaths placed on the coffin included a magnificent floral tribute from the deceased's late colleagues .
BRO . T . HAYTER LEWIS , P . M . Bro . T . Hayter Lewis , F . S . A ., R . I . B . A ., who died at his residence , 12 , Kensington-gardens-square , on Saturday , the 10 th instant , was born 9 th July , 1818 , and was , therefore , in his 81 st year . In 1837 he became a student of the Royal Academy , and two years later was awarded the silver medal for architectural
drawing . In 1865 he was appointed Professor of Architecture of University College , and on resigning in 1881 was appointed Emeritus Professor . On the 3 rd June , 1886 , he joined from the Jerusalem Lodge , No . 197 , the Quatuor Cormati Lodge , No . 2076 , of which he was a P . M . Bro . Lewis was a supporter 0 all our three Institutions .

BRO . J . S . JARVIS . It is with regret that we announce the death of Bro . John Stephen Jarvis , formerly of the well-known firm of Dent , Allcroft , and Co ., who is said to have been chiefly instrumental in introducing the modern tie as an improvement upon the stock which was in vogue till about 30 years ago . Bro . Jarvis , who had
attained the ripe age of 77 yetrs , was initiated on the 9 th March , 1855 , and was a member of the Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 . We tender our sympathy with the members of his family . The funeral of Bro . J . S . Jarvis took place on Wednesdayat Norwood Cemetery . Mr . A . Powell , one of the partners of the firm , was present , and the wreaths placed on the coffin included a magnificent floral tribute from the deceased's late colleagues .
BRO . T . HAYTER LEWIS , P . M . Bro . T . Hayter Lewis , F . S . A ., R . I . B . A ., who died at his residence , 12 , Kensington-gardens-square , on Saturday , the 10 th instant , was born 9 th July , 1818 , and was , therefore , in his 81 st year . In 1837 he became a student of the Royal Academy , and two years later was awarded the silver medal for architectural
drawing . In 1865 he was appointed Professor of Architecture of University College , and on resigning in 1881 was appointed Emeritus Professor . On the 3 rd June , 1886 , he joined from the Jerusalem Lodge , No . 197 , the Quatuor Cormati Lodge , No . 2076 , of which he was a P . M . Bro . Lewis was a supporter 0 all our three Institutions .
