Before proceeding to the business of the Conference , the delegates unanimously resolved to request the chairman to communicate to the Earl of Euston , Grand Master of the United Order of England , their sincere regret at his absence from among them caused by serious illness , and their hope that he may soon be restored to health and . 'trength . The chairman undertook to communicate this to Lord Euston .
A suggestion was made by V . E . Knight C . F . Matier , Great Vice-Chancellor of the Great Priory of England , that a small committee from each Great Body should be appointed to consider the Rituals of the Order of Kni g ht of Malta , and endeavour , at least , to harmonise the Secrets . Knight General John Corson Smith at this stage presented the Delegates from the Chapter General , the Great Priory of England , and the Great Priory of
Ireland , with copies of the Rituals of the Degrees of Knight Templar and Knight of Malta as worked in the United States of America . Also the degrees of the Red Cross , which precedes that of the Temple in the American working . General Smith expressed the desire that he might receive copies of the Rituals of the Three Governing Bodies in the United Kingdom that the same may be placed in the Archives of the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the United States of America .
The Grand Master , on behalf of the Chapter General of Scotland , returned thanks to General John Corson Smith for his very appropriate gift . V . E . Knight Captain N . G . Philips , G . C . T ., returned thanks on behalf of the Great Priory of England , & c , and Knight Lieut .-Colonel Davoren , on behalf of the Great Priory of Ireland , also returned thanks .
The question was then discussed as to the desirability of exchanging representatives with other governing bodies in the Order . Thereafter , it was moved by V . E . Knight Captain N . G . Philips , seconded by M . E . Knight the Marquis of Breadalbane , and unanimously agreed to , that the delegates recommend to the Governing Bodies they represent that representatives be interchanged with other Governing Bodies of the Order .
It was unanimously resolved to recommend that the next Conference be held in Dublin in April , 18 99 . On the motion of V . E . Knight Captain N . G . Philips , G . C . T ., seconded by V . E . Knight Lieut .-Colonel A . V . Davoren , G . C . T ., a cordial vote of thanks was accorded to M . E . Knight the Marquis of Breadalbane for presiding . England , Ireland , and America were cordially welcomed by the Grand Master , in the name of the Scottish Branch of the Order . After this , the Preceptory of the Lothians conferred the Order of the Temple in the presence of the representatives from the Three Governing Bodies . la the evening the Chapter General entertained their visitors at dinner , the M . E . the Grand Master , Knight the Marquis of Breadalbane , K . G ., in the chair .
On the 22 nd April the Priory of the Lothians conferred the Order of Malta upon two candidates in presence of the delegates , and in the evening the distinguished visitors were entertained at dinner by the Priory of the Lothians .
