Propositions for a joining member , and also or . e for initiation , were handed in to the Secretary . The business of the lodge ended , the brethren adjourned to the banqueting hall to thoroughly enjoy a recherche banquet , after which the loyal and Masonic toasts were commendably presented by the W . M . and most cordially received . In presenting the toast of "The Grand Officers , " the W . M . stated it would b : drunk in silence on account of the great loss Freemasonry had sustained and the
country , too , by the death of the late esteemed Pro Grand Master . Nevertheless , the Crichton Lodge had been honoured by a Grand Officer among its members for many years past , and he was one to whom the brethren looked for guidance in the splendid rituil and also in Masonic law . Bro . Nairne was most assiduous in the Iodge and wis highly esteemed . He would couple with the toast Bros . Nairne , P . G . D ., and Garrod , P . G . P .
In reply , Bro . Nairne , P . G . D ., said Freemasons were mourning the loss of a greit leader and one of the great Lights in the Masonic world . All would ever remember his kindness , courtesy , and graceful bearing , which would remain to his great memory . Bro . Girrod , P . G . P ., fully endorsed all that had been said , and added there was none greater nor more beloved and respected in every sphere of life thin the late Pro G . Master . They thanked the brethren on behalf of the Grand Officers .
Bro . G . Gill , I . P . M ., next presented the toast of "The W . M . " in terms of eulogium , and said to his mind there was not a more perfect Mason thin the W . M . His knowledge of the ritual was thorough , and he was confident that the brethren in committing the government of the Iodge into his hands had done the right thing . Given plenty of work , he would prove himself worthy of their choice , and he was confident that the affairs of the lodge being placed in the hands of such a young Jonathan they would be safe in every particular . The toast was most cordially drunk .
Bro . V . T . Murche , W . M ., in responding , said it was the night of his life . He had passed through all sorts of degrees outside , and the chair of W . M . in two other lodges , but everything ! paled before the W . Mastership of his mother lodge . He was indeed proud , and his earnest desire was that the coming year would be a happy and successful one . He most cordially thanked the brethren for so hearty a greeting . The VV . M . nextproposed the toast of "The Installing Master , Bro . G . Gill , I . P . M ., " who had conducted and guided the lodge during the past year so very efficiently . He
was one of the best in the world . Although being very unwell , yet he had performed his duty most creditably . He and Bro . Gill had walked together in other Degreesinstalling and being installed—but now being installed into the Master ' s chair of the Crichton Lodge by him excelled all the others . The most pleasurable duty devolved upon him to present the Past Master's jewel , so well earned for great service rendered during the past year , with the desire of all the brethren that he would live many years
and wear it in the Crichton Lodge , and also that he and ths W . M . should sit side by side as fossils for years to come . Bro . G . Gill said , in reply , that he wis proud indeed to have such a testimony , and it was almost more than he deserved . His earnest desire was always to perform the duties as they should be done , but his health hid failed him greatly of late . His dearest friends were among those around him , and certainly he felt far better in health since his visit to the Iodge , and their presence to him had been the best medicine . For their kindness he heartily thanked them .
The W . M . next presented the toast of "The Visitors" —to him the one of the evening—and remarked among the many distinguished brethren present the first and foremost was Bro . R . J . Voisey , P . M ., who 18 years ago that night initiated him into Freemasonry , and since that time a lasting friendship had existed . He was proud to see him present now to witness and take part in his installation . There were several reigning kings present , and he would like them all to speak .
Bros . Voisey , Brown ( who cordially thanked the W . M . for his courtesy in passing the brethren of Mount Eds » cumbe Lodge ) , R . Divis , Murphy , Kidson , W . M . 2611 ; Petley , and C . VV . Stone , VV . M . . 107 , responded , and eulogised the work and hospitality of the lodge , and expressed thanks for so cordial a welcome . The W . M . next proposed the toast of " The Initiates " in becoming terms , which was very ably replied to by Bros . King and Parker .
The toasts of "The Past Masters , " " The Treasurer and Secretary , " and " The Officers " of the lodge being duly honoured , the Tyler ' s toist closed a very eventful evening . A splendid programme of music was arranged under the direction of Bro . E . E . Vinen , P . Prov . G . Org ., most efficiently assisted by Miss Ellen Marchant , Miss Estelle Goodwin , Mr . Robt . Grier , Bros . R . B . Hopkins ( King of the Silver Bells ) , G . T . Miles ( King of Harpists ) , and Chas . T . Castle ( clavionette ) . Bro . E . E . Vinen was the able accompanist .

Craft Masonry.
