" Life ' s pathway we 11 tread , with help from above , Relieving the needy , cheering the sad , Bound to our duty by brotherly love . "January , 1 S 96 . " One of the usual bountiful banquets of the lodge followed the working , and in the intervals between the speeches , in prcposing and replying to the toasts , was some capital singing by Miss lidilh Scipeli , scpraro , Miss Dora Barnard , contralto , Mr . M ., said it was now his pleasure and privilege to propose for the first t ' me "The Health ol the W . M . " Theyall recognised in Bro . Elles a thoroughly eainest Mason . Mostcf Ihem knew him—several of them had known him for many years—as an enthusiastic Vclur . tier , and they always recognised in him a thoroughly

good fellow . He kit sure lhat Bro . Elles might ccunt en the hearty support of every me rr . ber of tke lodge , and it wculd be not only a duty but a very great pleasure to those who were Past Masters to assist him by cvciy rr . eans in their power . He wished the W . M . a most successful year of office . Bro . C . F . Elles , W . M ., in acknowledging ihe toast , which was most enthusiastically received , said he hoped so to perform the duties of the chair that at the conclusion of v ! *' v . ° ' ° "' be might not be considered below the standard of those ( the W . Ms . ) who had preceded him . He was now iroini ? to ask the brethren with srreat confidence to

1 . Tu Health of Past Master Spencer William Morris . " When Bro . Morris was elected W . M . he , on returning thanks , made use of the expression that he hoped to merit the brethren's regard . Bro . Morris had done that ; in his year of office he had H ? " ? j av \ ' ' by the tact ' " ™ ness , and skill with which he had managed the affairs of the lodge he had merited the admiration of the brethren , and taught them to feel that he was a Master worthy of the highest position in the lodge . He ( tiro . Elles ) was only too Proud to have Bro . Morris as his I . P . M .

. . * *¦>• v- Morris , LP . M ., replying to the very flattering terms in which Bro . Elles naa proposed the toast , said that to anyone who took a pride and pleasure in his work , it was with somewhat mixed feelings that at the end of his year of office he resigned the ' , J ol onice and handed them over to another . But at least he might be allowed to ay lor himself that during his year he had tried to do his duty he had tried to work ne Deautilul Masonic ritual as he thought it should be cairicd out ; but no one rould iewTi ? ? . £ C , 0 US than hu wai > that he had fallen short of his ideal . The handsome { ,, . Bro . F . V . Turner , P . M . 1216 , in reply , said that was the first time he had visited Ihe London Rille Brigade Lodge , but it was with the greatest possible pleasure he did so , as he had an association with the lolge whx ' o called for som ; o : n * nent . He had been a long time associated with the ist Surrey Rilljs , and they were old comrade . Members of the different corps met on the competition ground , lout it was much more to

their tisre to meet in lodge . He congratuhted th = London Rill ; Brigade LoJg ; on being the holders of the great Masonic givel which they won at the list " mate * ! . It had been in the hands of the Queen's , the donors , and Bro . Bellerhy would not mind his saying they were pleased at it . It showed that the London Rille Brigade was a stronger and better shooting corps . ° "

Bro . Bellerby , P . M . 2021 , said he was very proud to b ; a gu : st that night at the invitation of the lodge ; formerly he hid been the gue . it of individuil member * , pirticularly of Bro . Tayton and Bro . Walker . One thing they had at heart was a M isonic gathering . With reference to the challenge givel there was naturally a bit of jealousy j they all liked their own regiment to win , and he trusted the Queen ' s would win it on several occasions . They had done so , but they were pleased th ? Lin don Rill ; Brigade had won it . It lent a deal of life to the thing to see a good team win it by a good s ° core . The London Rille Brigade were now the challengers , and he would do his best " to carry it off to the Qu en ' s next year . Bro . the Rev . H . Vyvian Tyrrell , Chap . 2369 also respond ; d .

, Bro . L . V . Walker , P . M ., replied to the toast of "Tne Past Masters , " and congratu ' ated their old friend , Bro . Elles , on reaching the position of VV . M . He had given the brethren a taste of what he could do in the shape of Masonic work by his investiture ot the officers , and it was exceedingly improbable , however ready the Past Masters might be to assist him , that he would have to call upon them for any aid . All the officers

of the lodge were desirous of keeping up the reputation of the lodge for good working , ar . d they all could do their work well . He was gbd to see representatives of other title corps present . Ihe London Rille Brigade had two fights with them on the ranges , and tried to win . They would have some others , and would be sure to have a good lime of it .

Bro . Tilt , P . M ., also replied , and referred to the circumstance that the W . M . would be Steward forthe G ; rls' School . Pro . McDowall , P . M ., in responding to the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary , " was pleased with the satisfaction manifested at the way the lodge funds had been administered . The lce ' ge had yet done much ior Charily , and he hoped it alivays would , nutwitl-standing it put a good dinner on the toble .

Bro . A . Halg-lirown , P . M ., Sec , said the Treasurer had done his best , and so had he , and he was glad that what they had done hid met with the brethren ' s approval . Bro . Tilt , P . M ., had incidentally mentioned the subject of the W . M . going up as Steward ior the Girls' Institution . The lodge had always been distinguished for its working and it had also avery high position fur what it had done for tne Chinties . It had in the past subscribed annually a sum of upwards of £ 100 to the variois Masonic Charities—ever since ihe ludge was consecrated it had done so . The re . suo isibility

thenfure , rested upon them not to let that annuil am lunt be decreased : ratner should they , as the lodge grew in numbers , increase the annual gift . I hey had in time subscribed £ 500 to the Benevolent Institution and ^ 500 to the Bojs ; Ihey had not got up to j ( -50 o ior the Girls although the I . P . M . went up as Steward . Their system was if they did not succeed the first time to " Try , try , try again , " and they intended to " Try

again " this jear to suppport their Master , and they flattered themselves they intended to increase the amount to considerably over £ 500 . They could look with pleasure on the amount , as unfortunately they had had to make calls on the Charitv in the way of having to put forward girls for its benefits . He could not impress upon the bretnren too earr . eslly that it was their pleasure and their piivilege to support the Masonic Institutions by eveiy means in their power .

Ihe S . W . responded to the toast of " The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toat closed the exceptionally happy proceedings . The Charity tox realised £ 2 is .

Talbot Lodge , No . 2231 . The installation meeting was held atStretfoid Local Board Offices , O'd Trafford , on the 1 ? lh inst . There was a very large attendance of members and visitors . They assembled at three o ' clock , and the lodge was opened by Bro . Edwin Faulkner , VV . M ., assisted by his officers . The minutes uf the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Tne Auditors' report ot the balance-sheet was considered and passed , being highly satisfactory . There was a notice of motion by B . o . Faulkner that the sun of live guineas

Moved and seconded by the mover and seconder of this resolution , another vote of thanks was unanimously adopted to Bro . W . G . Wright , J . Haig Brcwn , P . M ., the last thiee lines bearing , it will be observed , the acrostic L . R . B . — London Rille Brigade :

"That ihe W . M ., Wardens , Brethren , and Visiting Brethren of the London Rifle Brigade Lodge , No . 1962 , may , each in his own sphere , in and out of Lodge , realise the comfort and joy of a Happy and Prosperous New Year is the heartfelt and sincere wish of the Secretary .

Charles

Cutler , ter . or , and Mr . W . H . Webb , baritone , with Mr . Frederic Dale at the piano . Bro . Clemow personally superintended the banquet , and Bro . W . S . Wagstaff , one of the Andeiton staff , also attended to the comforts of the brethren . Bro . S . W . Morris , I . P .

Craft Masonry.

Bro . F .
