W . Best , A . Wilmot , W . Horton , and J . Davies . Visitors Bros . J . W . Baldwin , 1892 , P . P . G . S . B . ; J . D . Langton , P . M . 2096 , P . P . J . G . W . ; Gordon Smith , VV . G . 1851 . After the W . M . had disposed of the usual toasts of

" The Queen , " & c , the I . P . M ., Bro . Ranson , proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " and said he considered it an honour , for he had personally witnessed the very great interest which Bro . Hobbs displayed in the Old England , as in other lodges in Surrey , and in the progress of Freemasonry generally . The W . M . was a hard worker , and one who was determined to secure efficiency in details .

Personally he had to thank the W . M . for assistance and guidance in the position he himself had recently occupied . The toast was heartily accepted with honours . Bro . Hobbs , W . M ., thanked Bro . Ranson , I . P . M ., and brethren most sincerely for the way the toast had been received . The duties dicharged by him involved considerable pleasure , and they had been , he concluded , discharged to

the satisfaction of the lodge , from the kind feelings expressed on the occasion ; besides , his own opinion in this respect was strengthened from the fact that they had presented him that evening with a Jubilee jewel , which he had accepted as a two-fold distinction , as a memento of the past historical year , and as a mark of respect from each brother of Old England . He had derived much support from the

I . P . M ., W . M . 's , and officers , of whom all had fulfilled their respective duties efficiently and thoroughly , which had materially helped him . The W . M . proposed "The Visitors , " with which he coupled Bros . Langton ' s , Cambridge's , Baldwin ' s , and Gordon Smith ' s names . Bro . Langton , he said , had been and was then suffering from illness , and had attended greatly

against his personal comfort and convenience . He felt pleased also at seeing so many visitors present , holding high positions in the Craft . Bro . Cambridge thanked them for their hearty reception of the toast , and he felt pleased to hear that his assistance in the musical arrangements of the evening was to their satisfaction .

Bro . Gordon Smith said it was his first visit at Old England , and , from what he had observed , congratulated the W . M . in being surrounded with such attentive officers , and he moreover congratulated the lodge in having such a proficient and persevering W . M . Bro . Langton sincerely thanked the W . M . and brethren for their kind expressions , and although it was not his first

visit to Old England , he trusted it would not be his last , for he always felt at home at the meetings of this lodge owing to meeting so many of them elsewhere . Old England was a prosperous and worthy one , and was compelled to be so when it was headed by that enthusiastic father in Freemasonry , Bro . Foulsham , whose soul and life had been closely devoted to the Craft for over 40 years . He was

delighted in seeing the W . M . decorated with a Jubilee jewel , a proof positive of the appreciation in which he was held by the brethren . Personally , he was indebted to Bro . Hobbs for many kind acts when holding various offices in Freemasonry . Bro . Baldwin said he had enjoyed himself much at the lodge ' s meetings ; he should always look back with

pleasure on it , and hoped that on another occasion to be present . He was satisfied that the lodge possesed good officers , which was not surprising when they had such a good example to follow in their W . M . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Health of Bro . Ranson , I . P . M ., " which was drunk with customary

honours . Bro . Ranson , I . P . M ., thanked them for the kind words which had been uttered . The W . M ., as they already knew , was always saying words of kindness at their assemblies , and to him he was greatly indebted for assistance and encouragement in the progress he had attained in

Freemasonry . "The Treasurer and The Secretary" was next proposed by the W . M . In regard to their Treasurer , Bro . Foulsham , he was at a loss in being able to add to what they already knew of his great abilities and knowledge in Freemasonry . They , like himself , held him in high esteem and respect , ever ready to help forward the success of the lodge and assist those below the chair . Bro . Foulsham

was the founder of several English lodges and Old England was his youngest child , but how many more would he bring to existence no one could foretel , for his energy , love , and determination in Freemasonry were unbounded . With regard to their Secretary , Bro . Horsnail , he had most satisfactorily discharged his duties ; he considered he was the best Secretary the lodge had had , and hoped the lodge would be able to retain his services .

Bro . Foulsham , in reply , said that he had never experienced coldness in Freemasonry ; over 40 years his health had been similarly drunk many hundred times . When he reflected on the past 40 years which had been given to Freemasonry , he could not help feeling grateful to the G . A . O . T . U . in sparing his life so long to enable him to bestow that time , attention , and heart to so good a cause

as Freemasonry , and when looking around him now in seeing so many blooming young brethren performing their various offices , it reminded him with thankfulness of his younger years . He had found it , and he said it frankly , that Freemasons ought to be better than other men , but if they occasionally found one not to the normal standard , then that was his own fault , arising from the neglect of

those high and grand principles taught by Freemasonry . Bro . Foulsham concluded an eloquent speech on the Christian benefits derivable from the system of Freemasonry . Bro . Horsnail thanked the VV . M . and brethren for the very kind observations regarding himself , and was pleased to learn that the Secretarial duties which he had discharged were to their satisfaction .

The W . W . then proposed "The Officers" and "The Tyler , " and after referring to the good qualities of the officers , said that as it would be the last opportunity of being able to speak as the VV . M . of the lodge , he was desirous of specially mentioning how attentivel y Bro . Lane had discharged the Tyler ' s office . He was always and

punctually at his post , his duties were perfectl y performed with great credit to himself , and his faultless attention was not only noticeable at Old England , but at other lodges where he sometimes attended . He tendered him his own personal thanks and also those of the brethren of the lodge . Bro , Ridpath , testified to the universal satisfaction ex-

perienced by the officers of Old England in having a W . M . such as they possessed , in whom a better example could not be secured for the officers to follow , and he hoped they would become all affected by that excellent work which he had performed in their presence and hearing .

At intervals during the evening Bros . Kilvington , Budd , and others sang several well selected songs , which were heartily applauded . Bro . Tarry provided the refreshments , which were , as usual , of good quality and variety .
