Maclean , Carr , Whitelev , Jekyll , Buckley , Crossley , and Vaux , accepted aspirants , were then introduced and admitted , the ceremonies being most perfectly performed by Frater W . F . Tomlinson , the Celebrant , who also delivered the lecture ; and , on the motion of Frater Trevor , seconded by the-Chief Adept , a resolution of thanks was passed to the Celebrant for the efficiency with which he had discharged his duties during his year of office . On a scroll

being taken , Frater Col . Monks received the almost unanimous vote of the fratres , and was at once installed in the chair of Christian Rosenkrentz by the outgoing Celebrant , and thanked the fratres for their selection of him , promising to do all in his power to further the welfare of the college . Frater J . W . Meek , Treas ., read his balance sheet , which showed , notwithstanding unusually heavy

expenses connected with printing the transactions , a balance at the right side . Frater Meek was thereafter re-elected to the office of Treasurer . The Chief Adept announced that at a meeting of Grade III . Frater J . J . Wilkes had been elected to the vacancy , and that at a meeting of

Urade 11 . fratres W . a . lomlinson and W . M . Brown had been elected to the two vacancies . The Chief Adept announced that he had conferred the Office of Suffragan upon Frater W . F . Tomlinson , and that of Provincial Secretary upon Frater Wm . Brown . A ballot was taken for Provincial Treasurer , and Frater J . L . Atherton was elected to that office . The roll of members was called over , and only six were found to be unaccounted for , either by letter or actual attendance . Frater J . W . Woodall gave

notice of a proposed alteration in the by-laws as to the appointment of Auditors . It was decided to hold the next meeting at Bradford , on Wednesday , the 16 th May . The Chief Adept then addressed a few remarks to the fratres , in the course of which he congratulated them on being

members of a body so large and influential as the college had undoubtedly become . They were already aware of the reasons that had obliged him to defer the preparation of his annual address , but he hoped to be able to give it at the next meeting in May , when he trusted to greet them all .

The M . C . was then dissolved , and the bulk of the fratres adjourned to the banqueting room , where they partook of an excellent tea , and a most enjoyable evening was passed previous to the departure of the members towards the four cardinal points of the compass .

ALFRED MEADOWS CONCLAVE ( No . 1 ) , —On Monday this conclave met under the presidency of the Supreme Grand Ruler , Bro . Dr . Zacharie , who was ably supported by a number of the Grand Council and officers of the Alfred Meadows Conclave . Although only introduced into England about a year ago , the Order had grown in a way unknown in any other branch of

Masonry . Bro . Dr . Zacharie , P . G . M . California , is the prime mover in this Degree . He happened to speak in the Duke ' s Saloon at a Craft lodge to Bro . Matier some few months ago of the Order of the Secret Monitor , and finding that that brother was a Monitor , they enquired of the Grand Secretary if he were a member . He replying in the affirmative , they , with Bro . Lewis Thomas ,

determined to revive the Order in England . These four brethren forming a nucleus , a conclave was soon held , and they admitted a number of distinguished brethren into the Order . They then constituted themselves into a Supreme Grand Conclave , with Dr . Zacharie as the chief , and issued a warrant for a conclave , to be named the Alfred Meadows Conclave , No . 1 , after Bro . Dr . Meadowswho died shortly

, after the resuscitation of the Order . This conclave already numbers nearly 80 brethren , and warrants have been issued for a University of London Conclave , No . 2 , Star in the East ( Penang ) No . 4 , and Horatio Shirley , No . 5 , the latter being consecrated on Wednesday last at Red Lion-square . The Alfred Meadows Conclave already numbers amongst its members Bros .

F . A . Philbrick , Grand Chancellor ; T . Spratling , Grand Recorder ; J . Lewis Thomas , Grand Councillor ; Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , P . G . S . R . ; C . Belton , Grand Treasurer ; H . Tilton , P . G . M . New York ; Augustus Harris , A . M . Broadley , Sir Robert Fowler , M . P ., Sir Francis Burdett , Baron de Ferrieres , C . F . Matier , Major Lambert F . S . A ., Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths'

Company ; Magnus Ohren , Richard Eve , Grand Treasurer in the . Craft ; Lennox Browne , and others . On Monday , at the Holborn Restaurant , the following were amongst the brethren inducted as Secret Monitors : Bros . Admiral Richard Mayne , M . P ., C . B . ; G . Brown , Ohren , junior ,

Henry Wright , J . Beaumont , and Horatio Shirley . Bro . Spratling performed the ceremonies of inducting the candidates in a most able and impressive manner . The conclave was then closed , and the brethren dined together under the chairmanship of the Supreme Grand Ruler .

Bro . J . Lewis Thomas responded for "The Supreme Council . " Bro . Broadley , Grand Councillor , in one of his eloquent Masonic speeches proposed " The Health of the Visitors , " coupling with the toast the name of Bro . Horatio Shirley , mentioning that Bro . Shirley is an Irish landlord , and having a lot of spare time on his hands , owing to unavoidable circumstances , is devoting some of it to the

Order of the Secret Monitor . Bro . Shirley responded in due terms . Bro . Henry Wright responded for " The Newly-inducted brethren ; " whilst Lieut .-Col . Perry Godfrey , the Guide , did the same for ' * The Officers . " All we need add is , that if this and all the conclaves con = tinue as the meeting did on Monday , then a very bright and progressive future is before the Order of the Secret Monitor , which owes so much to Bro Dr . Zacharie .

Bro . the Marquis of Hartington , M . P ., Bro . Lord and Lady Hothfield , Bro . Lord and Lady Charles Beresford , and Bro . and Mrs . G . Cavendish-Bentinck were among the guests invited by Isabella , Countess of Wilton , to meet the Uuke of Cambridge at dinner at her residence in Grosvcnor-street on Saturday evening last .

On a scroll

Frater J .

Frater J . J . Wilkes had been elected to the vacancy , and that at a meeting of

notice of a proposed alteration in the by-laws as to the appointment of Auditors .

Lord and Lady Charles Beresford , and Bro . and Mrs . G .
