that he had been highly gratified at being elected and installed in the chair to preside over them . During his term of office it would be his endeavour to maintain the reputation and prestige of the lodge , and to gain the good will of the members . He had to thank the brethren for the very hearty and fraternal greeting accorded him that evening . The next toast that he had to propose was that of "The

I . P . M ., " and he was sure it would be received with the greatest amount of enthusiasm . He would not dilate upon the merits of Bro . Humfress , I . P . M ., for during the past year , which had been a very successful one for the lodge , the members had had ample opportunity of becoming acquainted with his excellent qualifications . It was also his pleasing duty to present the P . M . 's jewel and collar

( manufactured by Bro . George Kenning ) to Bro . Humfress , I . P . M ., and was convinced that he could not pin the jewel on a worthier breast . Their I . P . M . had rendered very valuable service on behalf of the Masonic Charities , and last year took up a lage amount for the benefit of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . It was the unanimous wish of the . brethren that their I . P . M .

would be spared many years to wear the jewel and collar in their lodge . Bro . Sills J . Humfress , I . P . M ., said it gave him great pleasure to return thanks for the kind way in which the toast had been proposed by the W . M ., and received by the brethren . During his year he had done the best in his power , but unfortunately he had not had as good health as

he could have wished . Since his installation a year ago , he had initiated 11 members , and had received 4 joining members into the lodge . There had been 7 meetings during the year , and they would therefore see that he bad had plenty of work to do , and was thankful to the members for bringing the various candidates forward . He had performed the various duties to the best of his ability , and

trusted he had given them satisfaction . Circumstances had occurred which had enabled him to reach the chair a year earlier than , he otherwise would have done ; in the ordinary course of events his installation vvould have taken place on the present occasion . In the latter case he would have been better prepared to perform the work than he was a year ago . However , he had installed his successor ,

through the kindness of Bros . Cottebrune and Waker in assisting him , and he tendered his sincere thanks to those brethren . He had also to thank the brethren generally for the P . M . ' s jewel and collar . He could assure them he was pleased to think they were satisfied , and their presents had more than repaid him for his endeavours to please them . It was his privilege during his year to present the

lodge with a banner , which the members had been pleased to accept . He wished to express his special indebtedness to the lodge for voting him 50 guineas for the Girls' School . It would be gratifying for the orethren to know that out of 277 Stewards at the last Festival , he was fourth on the hot , the amount subscribed being £ 161 14 s . He had not , however , taken the credit to himself , but had presented the

lodge with the votes ensuing from that amount of his list , which would enable the W . M . for the time being to assist any brother who desired to support a candidate for the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . He thought the lodge could now produce as many votes for the Masonic Chanties as possibly any lodge could . He thanked them aga 11 lor so cordially drinking his health , and also for the eacra live

guineas so kindly voted that evening to be disposed of as he might think fit . "The Visitors" was next given in cordial terms by the VV . M ., who coupled with the toast the names of Bros . Woods , P . M . ; Kev . Haines , Chap . 209 ; Whitlock , P . M . ; and Dancocks . Bro . Woods , P . M . S 5 S , having responded and returned

hearty thanks for the hospitality received by the visitors , Bro . Rev . Haines , Chap . 209 , replied , and remarked that it was not the first time that he had had the pleasure and privilege of visiting the lodge . He had always received the utmost kindness at their hands , and was therefore pleased to again take advantage of an invitation to be present . He belonged to a lodge where the members , although

they differed with the members of the Westbourne Lodge on some points , yet nevertheless they were all unanimous on the subject of the great principle of Masonry . He trusted the W . M . would have health and strength to carry out the duties of his office to the satisfaction of the members . Other visitors having also responded , " The Past

Masters" was given . Bro . Walker , P . M ., Sec , in replying for " The Treasurer and Secretary , " said he was grateful to the W . M . for the manner in which he had placed the toast before the brethren . He should be happy at all times when called upon to perform a duty to do it to the best of his ability . That evening he was called upon to give the addresses in the installation ceremony , for which he was

unprepared , but he rendered them in as perfect a manner as he was able . He regretted that through ill-health Bro . Cottebrune had been debarred from performing the duties of the office he had been connected with for 30 years , i . e ., the office of D . C . ; but all present would hope to see him with them in good health on the next occasion . He

congratulated the lodge on the successful year just brought to a conclusion .. "The Officers" having been given , the Tyler's toast closed the proceedings . Bro . Lane presided efficiently at the piano , and several brethren assisted by vocal contributions in the harmony of the evening .

The lodge having been opened , the minutes of the last regular and emergency meetings were read and confirmed , and the Auditor's report received and adopted . The members are to be congratulated on the very satisfactory

condition of the financial affairs of the lodge , for not only is there a substantial balance in the general fund after paying a handsome donation of 50 guineas to the Girls ' School , but the Benevolent Fund possesses a large amount invested in Consols , and a good cash balance in the hands of the Treasurer . Bro . C . J . Biorn having been presented

as W . M . elect , was duly installed into the chair of K . S . by Bro . S . J . Humfress , I . P . M . The following officers were appointed and invested : Bros . W . Drew , S . W . j W . The usual addresses were effectively rendered by

that he had been highly gratified at being elected and installed in the chair to preside over them .
