then effectively rendered by Bros . Rogers , I . P . M ., and Gillingnam , P . M . ballot having been successfully taken in lavour of Messrs . D . M . Maurice and R . 1 . Coysh as candidates for initiation , they were impressively initiated into Freemasonry by the newly-installed W . M . Other business having been transacted , the lodge was closed . The bretnren then adjourned to the ureyhound Hotel ,

Richmond , where an excellent repast was served , under tne superintendence of Bro , Mouflet . Atter the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were heartily given and received . " The Queen and the Craft ; " " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . vV . G . M . ; " and "The Grand Officers " were first given , and met with a hearty reception .

" The Prov . G . M ., the Deputy Prov . G . M ., and the Prov . G . Officers , Present and Past , " was proposed by Bro . Rogers , I . P . M . He said that those brethren who had had many opportunities of visiting Prov . G . Lodge would fully endorse his opinion of the good working invariably seen there . Bro . Thrupp , the Deputy Prov . G . M ., was with them at their last installation meeting , and would have

been present on this occasion , but had been detained in town by business . He regretted the absence of that distinguished Drother , who was one of the best working Masons to be found . The lodge had been highly honoured in the past Dy Provincial Grand honours , tor tney now numbered five or six Prov . G . Officers , and he hoped they wouid be as fortunate in the future . Last year

Provincial honours wcie placed upon the shoulders of one who was loved and resp . cteu by every memuer ot the . lodge . He reierred to Bro . Gilhngham , whose name he coupled with the toaet . Bro . Gillingnam , Prov . G . Std . Br ., returned sincere thanks tor the way in which the toast had been proposed and received . He was giatihed to be one of the buoy ot

Prov . G . Officers , and was sure that each officer wuulu strive to do his duty . He hoped to be connected with the ooocn Lodge lor many years , and to enjoy himself , as he invariably oid , at their gatherings . He also trusted that the names of brcthien ot inch louge who were qualified to weai trie purple wuulu be brought lurwaid lor Provincial honours , tour years ago tnetr ludge was in a sad condition , but now , he was pleased to say , they possessed one of the

best and most enjoyable lodges possible . On behalf of the Prov . G . Officers he again begged to thank them . In proposing " The Health ot the W . M ., " Bro . Rogers I . P . M ., said that Bro . Tomlinson , W . M ., had grown up with them , and had had a marvellously successful time since his initiation . It was rarely the case to find a brother , who , lour years after his initiation , was in the hi gh

position which their W . M . had attained . He had known Bro . Tomlinson during that time , and could testify that he had attended assiduously to Masonry from the moment ot his initiation . Their W . M . had taken a great deal of interest in the Craft , and had , moreover , nobly supported the Masonic Charities . The brethren were thereture delighted to see him in the chair , and trusted he would have

a successtul year , and would remain in their midst tor many years to continue his good work . There were not many young Masons who had done as much lor Masonry as Bro . Tomunsun , and therefore he deserved the honourable position to which he had been exalted . There was good promise that during the forthcoming year Bro . Tomlinson would have a repetition of the success which attended the

efforts of his Masonic father—Bro . Gillingnam . The brethren would join heartily in wishing long lite and prosperity to their newly installed W . M . Bro . J . Hinks Tomlinson , W . M ., in reply , said it was a very difficult thing to return thanks for the honour conferred upon him , and to hnd words to adequately exp ress his feelings . He need not assure them that he was proud to occupy the

chair of W . Master , but his position was almost analagous to that of an initiate who knew not what to say . As they had already heard , he had not been long a Mason , having only been initiated four years ago , but by a run of luck he had been installed into his present post . He regretted for some reasons that he was not older in Freemasonry , but he would exert himself for the benefit of their lodge in the

future as he had hitherto done in the past . He was similar to a Lord Mayor in the provinces , who was only too proud to be elected and re-elected to the chair of office . He thanked tnem one and all tor the kind compliment paid him by their compliance to the wishes of the I . P . M ., in so heartily and sincerely receiving the toast . In giving " the Initiates , " the W . M . said that his Masonic fatner presented the lodge with 11 initiates during

his term ot office , and he was pleased to be able to introouce two initiates to their notice that evening . It was at all times desiraole to have candidates coming forward to fill the vacancies of those brethren who , through various causes , left the lodge . He regretted to say that that evening there were two retirements , both being brethren who were good and true men . However , the two initiates were trusty brethren , and had expressed a determination to work up in the ritual of the Order .

Bros . D . M . Maurice and R . T . Coysh replied in appropriate terms , thanking the W . M . and brethren for the honour conferred upon them . The " Visitors" was next given by the W . M ., who said that every member present would most heartily receive the toast . Among the visiting brethren , who outnumbered the members , were many distinguished Masons , including Bro .

Josling , W . M . Peace and Harmony Lodge ; Bro . Walls , P . M . 194 ; and others . Tnere was also Bro . Davis present , a P . M . of the Earl of Carnaivon Lodge , to whom he was specially indebted for the Masonic instruction he had received . He sincerely regretted the absence of Bro . Parkhouse , also a P . M . ot that lodge , to whom he was also indebted . The members of the Gooch Lodge were

under an obligation to Bro . Spurr , who had that evening delighted them with some excellent music . Bro . Josling , W . M . 60 , having returned thanks on behalf of the visitors for the kind hospitality they had received , complimented the . lodge on tne excellent working he had witnessed . The installation ceremony was rendered by Bro . Rogers , I . P . M ., to whom they were indebted in his

own lodge for services rendered , in a very able manner , and the initiations had also been performed in a most impressivestyle by the W . M . With such a W . M . and I . P . M ., and witn such efficient officers , he might fairly predict a continued career ot prosperity tor the Gooch Lodge . Bros . Watts , P . M . 194 ; Davis , P . M . 1642 ; and several others also replied , thanking the members lor the kindness

received , and eulogising the very admirable working of the lodge . the Worshipful Master then proposed "The I . P . M ., " and said it required a large amount of confidence and ability to propose this toast in adequate terms . Bro . Kogers , I . P . M ., had served the lodge as W . M . during the Juuilee year , and had maintained its high standard and

reputation throughout that important period . It was his privilege to present Bro . Kogers with a P . M . 's jewel voted oy the lodge , wmch was slightly different to those presented to previous occupants ot the chair , as it had the addition ot the word "Juoilee" in blue enamel . The members thought that some distinctive mark should be shown on the jewel ot the P . M . who presided over them during that

eventful year . Bro . Rogers had fulfilled his various duties in a most affable and successtul manner , and the members were pleased to acknowledge his merit . He was pleased to have the opportunity ot making this presentation to the I . P . M . as a mark of their esteem and respect , and to show the progress he had made in the science . Bro . E . Rogers , I . P . M ., said he scarcely knew in what l

words to repy to the toast , and to return thanks for the kind manner in which it had been proposed by the W . M . and received by the brethren . He had also to tender sincere thanks lor the handsome jewel placed upon his breast . It was now some years since he joined tne lodge , but since his connection he had taken the greatest interest in it . Before he took office he was called upon on several

occasions to assist in tbe ceremonies ; but he had no idea that he would attain his present position in so short a time . He aid not think there had been a meeting since he joined at which he had not attended , for he always looked lorward to tnem with interest on account of the cordiality and good feeling which rendereu their gatherings so enjoyable . He was pleased to say tnac he now numbered tne majority of

the members amongst nis personal iiieuds . 1 he lodge had passed tnrough » icissituues , but was now in a very prosperous LOiiUitiuii , and he was proud to be associated with it-He shoulu always look oack with pleasure to the evening wnen ne received the P . M . ' s jewel , ana he heartily toanked

them lor tnat mark ot their approoatiun . the Immediate Past Master , in giving "The Masonic Chanties , " announced mac heinienuea , in conjunction with csru . uiliingham , representing the louge at tne tociticoming festival of the Koyal Masonic Benevolent Institution , the lodge had in the past done good work for the Charities J

then effectively rendered by Bros .
