ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .
A Special General Court of the Subscribers of this Institution was held on the 16 th inst ., at Freemasons ' Hall , Bro . Charles Hammerton in the chair . There were also present Bros . Peter de L . Long , Ralph Clutton , J . H . Matthew , Henry A . Hunt , C . H . Webb , Henry Smith , Dep . Prov . G . M . West Yorkshire ; William Masters , James Stevens , Alfred C . Spaull , H . Edward Terry , John Chadwick , Frank Richardson , John Money , G . P . Britten , James Moon , A . F . Godson , W . F . Smithson ( Leeds ) , and F . R . W . Hedges . The meeting was called for the consideration of a recommendation of the Centenary Committee , " That the sum authorised to be expended under the resolution passed at the General Court held on the 14 th day of April , 188 S , be
extended to an amount not exceeding £ 31 , 000 . " The notice calling the meeting having been read by the Secretary , The CHAIRMAN said that the tenders for the erection of the new building necessary to the plans of Bros . Hunt and Clutton were to an amount which was beyond the sum authorised at the meetint ? referred to in the
recommendation . The plans were in the room for the brethren's inspection if they had not seen them before . They were so designed as to give ample room to the inmates when their number was increased , as was intended . The first plans were so cramped , and gave so little air space or room to move about in case of fire , that they were thrown aside , as if adopted , in case an accident occurred great damage
might arise . The present plans were so designed that every convenience was provided in case of accident . He , therefore , moved the adoption of the recommendation , and hoped the brethren would come to a unanimous conclusion . Bro . HY . SMITH seconded . He had gone very carefully over the plans , and whereas the former appeared to him to be dangerous , in the new ones there was plenty of open
space . The plans were then explained by Bros . HUNT and CLUTTON . After a short discussion upon the plans , the motion was put , and carried unanimously . The CHAIRMAN then moved that the sum named should
be granted . Bro . J AMES STEVENS asked what was the lowest tender ? Bro . HEDGES : £ 30 , 830 . Bro . STEVENS : VVhat is the highest ? Bro . HEDGES : £ 34 , 598- , , p . Bro . STEVENS : And we are asked for , £ 31 , 000 .
The CHAIRMAN : Not exceeding £ 31 . 000 . Bro . SPAULL : The details will be left in the hands of the Centenary Committee . We have to consider the application they make for money not exceeding £ 31 , 000 . If they are satisfied that the accommodation is so small , and that deviations are necessary , then they should have oower to make reasonable deviations .
Bro . M ASSA : This sum does net include heating . Bro . HEDGES : No . Bro . EDWARD TERRY seconded the motion , which was then put , and carried unanimously . A Special Court was , upon requisition , duly signed , and called for the 30 th inst . to confirm the resolution , and a vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings .
