responding for "The Grand Officers , " said that as a busy man he had to get 25 hours work into 24 , and , delighted as he should have been to have remained with them until the last , he had to travel back to town in order to address the Speaker one hour after midnight . They all knew that long before he was elevated to the position of a Grand Officer he had at heart the interest of that lodge . The members did him a great honour in making him the first
Master—an honour he should never forget—and in tint sense the interest of the Ebbisham Lodge would be nearest to his heart , next to his mother lodge . He was glad to see Bro . Cole , P . G . S . B ., present , who was one of the inhabitants of the town who was not only a Mason , but a friend to those who were Masons . Although they were not very numerous , and although perhaps they might now be rolling in wealth , there was always to be found that
hospitality and brotherly love which would never grow less , but more and more as the lodge grew in age and wisdom . The Worshipful Masters in the past had done their best , and the present ruler would follow in the same steps , and with Bro . O'Connell at his elbow could not go far wrong . Bro . F . Coles , P . G . S . B ., proposed " The D . P . G . M . in Charge , " and Bro . F . West , D . P . G . M . in charge , in reply , said it was
not the first time he had replied in that capacity , having done so for over three years on a previous occasion . They could not possibly have a chief who more thoroughly had at heart the principles of Freemasonry than the late Col . Money , with whom he worked so harmoniously . They knew their new Prov . Grand Master by repute , and if he came up to the standard of his predecessors they would have an excellent ruler . In finding an old friend—Bro .
Pile—in the chair , he was reminded that the brethren were keeping up the fabric of the old Masonic Craft by appointing such a distinguished brother , and giving energy and permanency to the Institutions of Freemasonry . The first W . M . had been appointed to one of the most distinguished offices in Grand Lodge , and he hoped that other members of the lodge would obtain the dark blue collar on a future occasion . Surrey was well represented by three collars in
Grand Lodge this year , they were fairly earned . He knew the lodge would go on well under the care of the present W . M ., and he hoped to see continued prosperity for many years to come . Bro . J . Andrews , I . P . M ., then gave "The Health of the W . M ,, ' andsaid it was a difficult position to fill , especially to one occupying the chair for the first time . He had known their W . M . for many years , and could call him a friend of
a quarter of a century . They had not disagreed in any matter , and they could each claim to have assisted the other . They were indebted to the W . M . for the manner in which he had helped the lodge in its formation and since . Tne brethren would all join in welcoming Bro . Pile as W . M ., andin looking forward to a very happy period during his year . Bro . W . Pile , P . P . G . S . B ., VV . M ., in response , said he
did not expect , until a few months ago , to be placed in that position , and thanked them for the toast of the VV . M . He was proud indeed that the toast hid fallen into the hands of the I . P . M ., whom he thanked most heartily for his very kind words . He was delighted to be with the brethren , for if he was not present he felt he had lost something . They could understand how he felt as W . M . of that popular and young Iodge , that had bsen recognised
by Grand Lodge and the Province of Surrey . What little he ( the W . M . ) had done had been recognised by the brother on his right ( Bro . West ) on many occasions . So long as they could live happily , and meet happily and Masonically as they did then , so long would Masonry continue a delight , and the position of W . M . an honour . He urged the members to study thc ritual , and work hard in order to arrive at the position he then held . He thanked
them most heartily for the kind reception . Bro . the Rev . E . L . G . Houndle , P . P . G . Chap ., Chap ., proposed " The I . P . M ., " and said Bro . Andrews had performed his duty admirably , although deterred by illhealth . That gave them every sympathy , and all would join heartily in drinking the toast . Bro . J . Andrews , I . P . M ., said he had often proclaimed himself an old Mason , but it was only in recent years he
had taken a very active part in Masonry , bicause circumstances prevented him before . He had always had Masonry at heart , and he was proud to be the I . P . M . of the lodge , of which he was a founder , founded in his native town . He thanked them for the jewel . He could not claim to be a perfect Mason , or one who had performed his duties in a perfect manner , but he had done his best . lie had received the greatest consideration from the brethren during his year . It had been his practice never to shirk
responsibility , and he hoped his efforts had met with their satisfaction . He was proud to know the lodge flourished , and hoped it would continue to do so . Bro . J . O'Connell , P . M ., P . P . G . Org ., Sec , proposed "The visitors " in felicitous terms , giving them a hearty reception on behalf of the lodge . Other toasts followed before the Tyler ' s toast closed a pleasant evening , the enjoyment ot which was considerably enhanced by the performance of a choice musical programme . HAMPTON COURT . Graham , and he was congratulated for the efficient manner
in which he had carried out the whole of tha installation ceremony . The first duty of the newly-installed Mister was to present Bro . Walter Haddon , the I . P . M ., with a Past Master ' s jewel , which he did in a few appropriate words . Bro . Haddon expressed his thanks for the kind appreciation of his services , and said that the je-vel would ever remind him of his year of office and ths many happy
associations . A letter was read from Bro , Lord Gsorge Hamilton , regretting his inability to attend , and a joining member having been proposed for election at the next meeting , the lodge was closed . The brethren afterwards partook ot an excellent banquet , which reflected the highest credit on the establishment . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , which were duly
honoured . The VV . M . submitted the toast of "The Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " making special reference to Bro . Jabez Church , Prov . S . G . W ., and he coupled his name with the toast . In response , Bro . Jabez Church said that he was proud that his name had been associated with the toast . It had
been his privilege and honour to have attends : ! all the consecrations in the province since he had been in office . The Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Lord Gsorgc Hamilton , was a good one , and he had learnt much from him . It was not necessary for him to dilate on the many virtues of the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Raymond Thrupp , as they were so well known . The lodge had been well honoured
by the Prov . Grand Lodge , and in conclusion he stated that he was pleased to be one of that body , and a member of the Raymond Thrupp Lodge . Bro . Walter Haddon , I . P . M ., proposed " The Health of the W . M . " He stated that it was one of the pleasures of his new office ot I . P . M . to submit the toast . In Bro . Venning Burgess they had one of the very best of Masters ,
and no one could be more earnest in Freemasonry , and it was well known in other lodges what he had done for the Craft . He was a good fellow and an excellent friend , and they were all proud of him , and there was not the slightest doubt that he would have a splendid year as their ruler . Bro . C . Venning Burgess , W . M ., responded , remarking that words failed to express adequately what he then felt .
Their's was a very happy lodge , for which he had a great feeling . He was greatly indebted to Bro . Raymond Thrupp for his first office in the lodge , and which was his first in Masonry . It would be his earnest desire to carry out his duties with satisfaction to himself and the brethren . His predecessors were excellent , and if he could follow in their footsteps he would be gratified , but , anyway , what he had
to do would be done to the best of his ability , and in such a way that he hoped no one would ever regret having elected him to the high position of W . M . The W . M . gave " The Visitors , " observing that he was delighted to greet them , and he was honoured with their presence . Visitors were always appreciated there , and they helped to increase the popularity of the lodge . He
joined with the toast the names of Bros . Leach Barrett , Making , Yadley , and Percy Griffiths , whom he asked to respond . Bro . Leach Barrett , P . M . i 2 oi , in reply , said it was a great privilege to him to be present that evening , as he had thc honour of representing the Cornish Lodge , which numbered 50 members , and of which their newly-installed W . M . had
been Master . He earnestly hoped that his year of office in the Raymond Thrupp Lod ? e would bc as pleasant and successful as in the Cornish Lodge . Bro . Venning Burgess had gained honours in Freemasonry , which were increased by his being installed VV . M . on that happy occasion . Bros . W . H . Making , G . Yadley , and Percy Griffith also replied , all bearing testimony to the excellent working
of the Installing Master , Bro . Charles Graham , the lavish hospitality of the members , the kind treatment they had received , and the musical entertainment which had been provided . In giving "The Past Masters , " theW . M . stated that no lodge could prosper without the assistance of Past Masters , and he made special mention of Bro , Sadler Wood , who had made great efforts for the lodge , and he
joined with the toast the names of Bros . Walter Haddon and Mildred . Bro . Walter Haddon , in reply , said that it was an honour to belong to the lodge , to which all the Past Masters had remained loyal , and the longer he knew the lodge the better he liked it . Bro . Mildred , P . M ., also responded in eloquent terms .
'The W . M ., in proposing " The Ollieers , paid a tribute to the excellent work done by the 'Treasurer and Secretary , and in the words of the song which they had had that evening , he thought he wis in good company . Bro . Chas . Graham , P . M ., Sec , replied , observing that he had the lodge at heart , and he hoped it would bs as successful in thc next 10 years as it had been in the last 10 years . Bro . VV . R . Burgoyne Watts , J , I ) ., also responded in a
humorous speech , whi : h elicited much laughter . The happy and successful gathering , for which the W . M . is to be congratulated , was brought to a close with thc Tyler ' s toast . The vocal entertainment was most enjoyable , and was carried out under the able direction of Bro . Frank Swinford , in which the following also took part : Bros . Ernest Marriot , Henry Parkin , and Fred . II . Cozens , but a word of praise is due to Bro . Marriot for his great efforts .
PURFLEET . Tilbury Lodge ( No . 200 G ) . —The first meeting of the season of this lodge took place on Saturday , the 1 S 1 I 1 inst ., at the Royal Hotel . Uro . P . Walker was to have been installed , but owing to the regrettable death of Bro . Walker's daughter that morning , th : cereminy had to be postponed till the next meeting in | unj . A letter of

responding for "The Grand Officers , " said that as a busy man he had to get 25 hours work into 24 , and , delighted as he should have been to have remained with them until the last , he had to travel back to town in order to address the Speaker one hour after midnight .
Uro . P .
