THE COMMITTEE OF THE Corney Grain Memorial Fund announce that subscriptions to the amount of over £ . 400 have been received towards tbe endowment of a cot in the Hospital for Sick Children in Great Ormond-street .

ON THE 15 th instant Bro . VV . li . Mackley , S . VV . of the Subuiban Lodge , No . 1702 , was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year . The installation takes place on Thursday , the 27 th prox ., at the Abercorn Hotel , Great Stanmore .

MR . AND MRS . GLADSTONE have accepted Sir Donald Cunie's invitation to a cruise in the mail steamer Tantallan Castle , which will leave London on the 12 th June , for Hamburg and Kiel , on the occasion of the opening ol the Baltic Canal .

THE DUKE OV WESTMINSTER presided at the annual meeting , which was held at Grosvenor House , on Saturday last , of the London Diocesan Council for the well-being of Young Men , among those who supported his Grace being the Bishops of London , Marlborough , and Stepney , Bro . Lord Herschell , and Field-Marshal Sir J . Lintorn Simmons .

BRO . SIR E . BALDWIN MALET AND LADY EKMYNTRUDE MALET gave a dinner party at the British Embassy in Berlin on Monday in honour of the new Russian Ambassador , Count von Osten-Sackcn and the Countess von Osten-Sacken . The guests included thc staffs of the Russian and British Embassies and other guests .

THE MARRIAGE of the Duke d'Acsta with the Princess Hulene d'Orleans is announced to take place on the 20 th of next month , and the Prince of Naples will be present at the solemnisation . The newly-married couple , after spending several days in England , will proceed direct to Rome , where , it is expected , they will arrive on the 7 th July .

THE NEW TOWN HALL , Clerkenwell , in Roseberyavenue , will be opened on the 14 th June , and it is announced that the Prime Minister will perform the inaugural ceremony . The new building will be a great adornment , architecturally , to the district , and will have on its facade a very handsome clock , the district being the centre of the English watch trade .

IHE 37 T 11 ANNUAL FESTIVAL in aid of the Railway Benevolent Institution was held at the Hotel Metropole on Monday evening , under the presidency of Viscount Emlyn , deputy Chairman of the Great Western Railway Company . The subscriptions announced in the course of the evening amounted to £ 8194 , including 50 guineas from the Queen and £ 50 lrom tbe Chairman .

FARMHOUSE AND COUNTRY LODGINGS . — Messrs . Walter Hill and Company , 67 and C 9 Southampton Row , VV . C , have published for the Great Northern Railway Company a neat guide containing particulars of farm house and country lodgings to be obtained during the holiday

season at places adjacent to stations on the Great Northern Railway in Hertfordshire , Nottinghamshire , Deibyshire , and Yorkshire . The book can be had on application to the Superintendent of the Line , King ' s Cross Station , at the Company ' s Receiving Offices and Ticket Agencies , and of Messrs . Walter Hill and Company .

THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OK YORK were present at the annual presentation of prizes and certificates to the writers of the best essays on animals , awarded by the Council of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals . The meeting was held at the Crystal Palace on

Saturday last , the Duke handing those prizes won by boys , and the Duchtss those which had been awarded to girls . Their Royal Highnesses afterwards partook of luncheon , and then returned by special train to London . The greeting with which the Royal visitors were received was of the most enthusiastic character .

THE HALF-YEARLY MEETING of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cumberland and Westmorland is to be held on Thursday , the 30 th inst ., in the County Hall , Carlisle , under the banners of Union Lodge , No . 310 , and Bective Lodge , No . 1532 . The principal business of the day is the laying of tbe corner-stone of the Binning Memorial Class Rooms , attached to the Christ Church Schools , and erected

in memory of the late Bro . Col . binning , an old and most respected citizen of the ancient Border city . 'The ceremony will be in the experienced and popular hands of Bro . Col . THE DUCHESS OK DEVONSHIRE ' reception at Devonshire House , which was to have been held on Tuesday , has been abandoned in consequence of the death of the Duke of Hamilton .

THE ART LOAN EXHIBITION . —Up till seven o ' clock on Tuesday night considerably over 100 , 000 persons had visited the exhibition since its opening . The attendance on Sunday was just 2000 . BRO . COLONEL BIGNOLD , Mayor of Norwich , who had been a member of the Corporation of that city for 20 years ,

died on Sunday evening last from cerebral hemorrhage , supervening on influenza . WE REGRET to hear that news has been received from Chitral via Simla , to the effect that Lieut , the Hon . F . H . S . Roberts , son of Bro . Lord Roberts , has met with an accident by which his arm has been broken .

A MEETING was recently held at Guildford under the auspices of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children , and among those who attended were the Duchess of Marlborough , who thus took the opportunity of exhibiting her interest in the movement .

WE ARE INFORMED a warrant has been granted for a new lodge to be called the Manchester , No . 2554 , and to be held in the Freemasons' Hall , Cooper-street , Manchester . THE ANNUAL MEETING cf the Royal Cambridge Asylum for Soldiers' Widows , was held on Satuiday last , under the presidency of the Duke of Cambridge . The institution , which is situated at Kingston-on-Thames , provides a home for the widows of non-commissioned officers and privates of the British Army of not less than 50 years of age . There are at present 6 9 widows in residence at the Asylum .

PRINCESS CHRISTIAN distributed the medals and certificates won by members of the local St . John's Ambulance classes at the Albert Institute , Windsor , on Saturday last . Her Royal Highness was accompanied by her daughter , the Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein , and among the company present were Bro . the Earl of Cork and Orrery , the Dean of Windsor , and the Vicar of Eton .

THE PUBLIC CELEBRATION of the Queen's birthday will take place to-morrow ( Saturday ) , when there will be the usual ceremony of trooping the colours on the Horse Guards Parade . Ministers will also give their customary full-dress banquets in honour of the auspicious event , and the clubs and principal houses at the West End will be illuminated . The Queen completes her 76 th year to-day ( Friday ) having been born on . the 24 th May , 1 S 19 .

BRO SIR J OSEPH RENALS and the Sheriffs of London are as fortunate as their immediate predecessors , for the visit of the son of the Ameer of Afghanistan to the City should , according to precedent , give a baronetcy to one and knighthoods to the others . In this case there can be no doubt as to the reception being strictly official , as it was suggested in a formal letter addressed to the Lord Mayor by the Lord Chamberlain , and nearly al ! the Royalties in England are to be present .

THE ANNUAL DINNER on behalf of the Newspaper Press Fund , was held at Ute Hotel Metropole , on Saturday last , under the presidency of H . M ' s . Solicitor-General , Bro . Sir F . Lockwood , Q . C , M . P ., among the principal guests being Viscount Portman , Bro . Lord Addington , Bro . Sir A .

A PRELIMINARY MEETING of the friends and supporters of Bro . Deputy Rogers was held at Brewers' Hall , Addlestreet , on Friday , the 17 th inst ., for the purpose of helping forward his candidature for the Shrievalty of London . Bro . Sebag Montefiore , J . P ., presided , and there wasa larceand

influential gathering including Bro . Deputy Hals , J . P ., Deputy Brown , Bro . Judd , CC , Bro . Hastings Miller , CC , and others . The proceedings were most enthusiastic , and a resolution pledging the meeting to use all their influence to secure Bro . Rogers ' s election was carried by acclamation .

BRO . LORD CLAUD HAMILTON , Chairman of the Great Eastern Railway Company , presided at a series of competitions in ambulance work , which was held among the members of the Great Eastern Railway Corps of the St . John ' s Ambulance Brigade , in the Stratford Town Hall ,

on Saturday last . Teams representing 17 divisions of the corps out of the 2 ( 1 in existence took pait in the contest , the Challenge Cup given by the Railway Company and the first prize being awarded to the Norwich 'Thorpe learn . Prizes were also won by the Stratford , Fenchureh-street , Parkeston , and Cambridge teams .

SOME HIGH PRICES were realised at the sale of sundry private collections of pictures , which took place at Messrs . Christies' rooms , on Saturday last . A series of four works representing " The Story of Pygmalion , " by Sir E . Burne-Jones , fetched 3500 guineas , while £ 2500 was given for ' 'The Hesperides , " by the same artist . W . Mulrcady ' s

Idle Boys , " fetched 1000 guineas , and the ' Bezestein Bazaar , Cairo , " by j . F . Lewis , R . THE DUKE OF YORK visited the City on Tuesday afternoon for the purpose of being admitted an honorary member of the Grocers' Company . His Royal Highness was subsequently entertained at luncheon by the Wardens of the Company , and afterwards visited the Stock Exchange , Lloyd's , and the Royal Exchange , at each of which he met with a most enthusiastic reception .

A MEETING of the Committee of the National Association for the Employment of Reserve Soldiers was held at 12 , Buckingham-street , Strand , on Monday , under the presidency of General Sir John Adye . The draft report was considered , and from this it appears that the Association has 7 6 branches in the United Kingdom , and that 4120 situations have been found for men during the past year .

A MEETING will be held in London on the 2 nd July , when the University of Wales will proceed to the election of a Chancellor , the elective body being the University Courta council of 93 members , most of whom are appointed by various public authorities in Wales . A strong desire exists amongst the members that the Prince of VVales should be invited to accept the oflice .

THE SAILING of Sir John Franklin ' s third and last Arctic exploration expedition was fittingly commemorated by the Royal Geographical Society on Monday , the expedition , which consisted of the ships Erebus and Terror , having left the Thames on their fatal voyage in May , 1 N . 15 . A visit to inspect the Franklin relics was paid to Greenwicn Hospital , and after a dinner by the Geographical Club , the Society held its meeting under the presidency of the Dune of York .

ON MONDAY NEXT , the 27 th inst ., will be celebrated in Leeds , the centenary of the Alfred Lodge , No . 30 O . This will be the third Leeds Lodge and the thirteenth in the Province of West Yorkshire which has reached this honourable position . THE ANNUAL MEETING cf the Royal Cambridge Asylum for Soldiers' Widows , was held on Satuiday last , under the presidency of the Duke of Cambridge . The institution , which is situated at Kingston-on-Thames , provides a home for the widows of non-commissioned officers and privates of the British Army of not less than 50 years of age . There are at present 6 9 widows in residence at the Asylum .

THE SAILING of Sir John Franklin ' s third and last Arctic exploration expedition was fittingly commemorated by the Royal Geographical Society on Monday , the expedition , which consisted of the ships Erebus and Terror , having left the Thames on their fatal voyage in May , 1 N . 15 . A visit to inspect the Franklin relics was paid to Greenwicn Hospital , and after a dinner by the Geographical Club , the Society held its meeting under the presidency of the Dune of York .
