M ., then said that during his year of office the brethren had expressed a

desire to recognise the kindness they had received from Bro . John Osborn , P . M ., Sec , and the services he had rendered to the lodge . He was happy to say that every member had taken part in the project . As they were all aware , Bro . Osborn , P . M ., had discharged all the duties of his office with geniality and courtesy , and besides materially increasing the welfare of the lodge , bid endeared himself

to all the members . On behalf ot the lodge , he had to ask Bro . Osborn , P . M ., Secretary , to accept a purse containing a cheque , and also an address which had been beautifully illuminated . It was their unanimous wish that the Great Architect would spare Bro . Osborn for many years to continue his connection with thelodge , and to enjoy the friendship of those who had such deep feelings of respect

and love for him . The inscription on the address was as follows : " VVe , the undersigned brethren , members of the Citadel Lodge , No . 1897 , in the Province of Middlesex , at a meeting held at the Railway Hotel , Harrow Station , this 18 th day of June , 1892 , present to our well-beloved Bro . esteem and high appreciation of his valued and lengthy services as Secretary of the lodge , and we hope the Great Architect of the Universe will grant him health and strength that he may long continue to hold the appointment . " Bro . J . Osborn , P . M ., P . P . G . Std . Br ., Sec , who spoke with deep emotion , said that was the greatest surprise he had ever experienced , and consequently he was at a loss to

express his feelings . He would , however , say he thanked them sincerely and heartily , and especially Bro . Wright , I . P . M ., for his kind remarks . Why he should have had that mark of their appreciation he was unable to say . He had endeavoured to do his duty as Secretary , because as a Mason he felt that when he occupied an office he should do his utmost without hope of reward . He regarded

that testimonial as meaning more than appreciation for his secretarial duties , and he hoped he should continue to live in the hearts of all the members as long as God spared his life . The W . M . presented Bro . W . Wright , I . P . M ., with a Past Master's jewel , which was appropriately acknowledged . The lodge was closed , and after banquet the customary

toasts were Honoured . Bro . H . H . Room , Prov . G . Sec , in response to the toast of " The Deputy Prov . G . Master in charge , and the Prov . Grand Officers , " said it was always a great pleasure to reply to that toast . It was a comprehensive toast and would have been more so a few weeks ago , for there was a name now omitted which would never be forgotten in Middlesex .

The Deputy Prov . G . Master in charge would have been pleased had he been present , but his heart was with them , for he took the greatest interest in the minutest detail connected with the province . The Citadel Lodge had given him a text upon which he could speak on behalf of the Prov . Grand Officers by affording excellent illustrations . The members had honoured a Prov . Grand Officer that evening

whom they esteemed and loved in the person of the Secretary . It would be impossible for him ( Bro . Room ) to carry on his work if he was not supported by the Secretaries of the lodges and epecially by his esteemed friend , the excellent Secretary of that lodge . There was another Prov . Grand Officer who was also a splendid Secretary elsewhere—Bro . Bird , P . P . G . S . B . —wh j had rendered the ceremony of

installation that evening in a beautiful manner . In Bro . Von Holtorp , P . M ., they had a Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies than whom it would be impossible to find one better , and the members would have an opportunity at the Provincial Grand Lodge meeting of seeing what he could do . Bro . W . Wright , P . P . G . Org ., set an example to many by the way he entertained them with musio last year . In theW . M . the brethren had made a

good selection and he asked them to support him by finding him plenty of work , and a good surplus at the end of his year . "The Health of the Worshipful Master" was next submitted by Bro . Wright , I . P . M . He said they had an able and popular Master , ready and willing to do the work , and he was confident that under the ruling of Bro . Davison the lodge would prosper and the members would enjoy his term of office .

Bro . C . J . Davison , W . M ., thanked the I . P . M . sincerely for the kind manner in which he had proposed the toast , and the brethren for their cordial reception of it . It would be his endeavour , to the best of his ability , to do all that was required of him , and with the assistance of the Past Masters , he hoped to follow in their steps , and be ranked amongst them at the end of his year .

Bros . W . H . Dresden , VV . M . 1 G 02 ; Adolphus Clark , I . P . M . 2397 ; and T . C Edmunds responded for "The Visitors , " after which the Worshipful Master gave "The Installing Master . " Bro . T . I . Bird , P . P . G . S . B ., in response , said he had been delighted to perform the ceremony in order to show that

his professions of being ready to do anything for the lodge were a reality . "The Past Masters" and "The Officers" were given , and the proceedings closed with the Tyler's toast . Under the direction of Bro . W . Wright , P . P . G . Org ., a selection of music was given , in which the following brethren assisted : Bros . Arthur Weston , R . Harris , S . Wright , and Horace G . Banks . S . D .

IPSWICH . Perfect Friendship Lodge ( No . 37 6 ) . — The monthly meeting of this lodge , held at the Freemasons ' Hall on Wednesday , the iGth inst ., was the occasion of a large gathering of brethren to do honour to an event which rarely happens in the history of a lodge—the 50 th anniversary of the initiation of a prominent and active member ,

Bro . Dr . VV . P . Mills , whoentered the lodge on VVednesday , the 15 th June , 1842 . To mark this jubilee in Masonic life , the members of the lodge presented Bro . Mills with a beautifully illuminated address , framed in oak . The design is most artistic and tasteful . The presentation was made at the conclusion of the lodge business . The VV . M ., Bro . H . C . Monteith , presided , supported by all his officers , and

amongst those present were Bros . N . Tracy , P . G . Sec . ; S . R . Anness , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D . ; J . B . Fraser , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D . ; A . A . Bennett , P . M ., P . P . G . B . ; George Abbott , P . M . 225 , P . P . G . S . B . ; John Talbot , P . M . 225 , P . P . G . S . B . ; and others . Bro . N . Tracy , who made the presentation , said that the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Lord I lenniker , who had promised

to present the address , had written to him as follows : " I somehow caught cold on Sunday , and the chill has brought back some of the symptoms of the illness from which 1 suffered after influenza . 1 therefore think it wiser not to attempt to go to Ipswich to-morrow . 1 am anxious not to bc laid up again , and 1 think a few days' care will set me right . 1 am sure Bro . Mills will understand my great regret not to be at the lodge to make the presentation .

We all hope that he may be spared many years to give his valuable aid to the best interests of the Masonic Craft . " The Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . C . J . Martin had also written , stating that his presence at thc Ely Diocesan Conference precluded his attendance ; and Bro . Boby was unable to attend through illness . Bro . Tracy went on to say that , consequently , the duty ot making the presentation had fallen upon him , partly , he

The VV . M ., Bro . H .
