Bro . Hy . Potter , W . M . 1622 , also replied in a very effective speech . In his remarks he thanked the worthy Secretary , Bro . A . Lambert , for his kind invite , which he had accepted for the fitst time . He congratulated the I . P . It was the first time he had visited so eloquently a banner lodge , and it reminded him
when he was in Italy of a procession tf banners doing honour to the great statesman of liberty , Garibaldi , when visiting his statue ; but to him that was not to be compared with the glorious banner of Freemasonry , which , like those in that banner lodge , always waved over the right and the free . He most cordially thanked the brethren . Bro . Rawlinson , P . M . 1657 . also ablv responded .

The brethren showed their respectful sympathy with their W . M . " O . ie touch of nature makes the whole world kin . " He ( the W . In the coure of his reply , the I . P . M . thanked his late officers and the brethren generally for the kind assistance they had rendered to him when he occupied the chair . Tyler , Communications from Grand Lodge were read , and the W . M . then brought to the notice of the lodge the recent death of their I . G ., Bro . Parchment , who was initiated at the first regular meeting of the lodge , and while holding the responsible position of Sergeant Major to the battalion , was most popular with all ranks . On the motion of the I . P . M ., and seconded by Bro . Col . Beningfield , P . M ., it was unanimously carried that the Secretary be instructed to send a letter to the members of his family expressing the deep sympathy of the lodge . M , and wire received with acclamation by the brethren , who testified their loyalty by singing th : National Anthem , the solos being finely rendered by the talented artists . After the toast of " The Grand Officers " the I . P . M . rose to propose " The H jalth of
the VV . M ., " and in doing so said that being a military lodge it was thought a breach of discipline for an inferior officer to criticise one holding superior rank , even in the most eulogistic terms ; he might , however , be permitted to say that after the admirab e way he had invested his ofiicers , he would well be able to maintain the prestige of the lo dge , and wished him a happy and prosperous year office .
In reply , the W . M . expressed his thanks to the I . P . M . and brethren for the warmth of his reception , stating he thought the I . P . M . must have been an Irishman and kissed the Blarney stone from his flattering and undeserved remarks . He , however , pledged himself to uphold the dignity of his . high office so that when he vacated the chair for some worthy successor the brethren would be satisfied with his humble efforts .
In proposing " The Health of the I . P . M ., " the W . M . expressed the feelings of the lodge at the high opinion held by every brother of the brilliant manner he had performed the ceremony of installation , which ended his successful year of office , and that as a conscientious and energetic Mason , and as a true and genial brother he should be regarded as an example to be followed by all . The lodge had voted him a Past Master's jewel , which would be presented at the next lodge meeting .
The I . P . M ., in his reply , thanked the brethren for their kind appreciation of his efforts . That in Masonry the doctrine was enjoined tbat every Mason should study rhetoric . He was only too conscious of his deficiency . The W . M . had suggested he was an Irishman , but he thought the boot was on the other leg , for the only claim he had was that he was descended from Scotch ancestors who had lived in Yorkshire for 300 years . The toast of "The Visitors" was duly honoured and replied to by Bros . J . S . Melville , Alex . Wood , Ellis Harfeld , and A . J . Taylor , who all expressed their admiration at the working of the lodge .
The toasts of "The Past-Masters , " followed by that of "The Officers of the Lodge , " was given from the chair , and replied to by several of the brethren . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the business of the evening . ,

The Tyler ' s toast concluded the business of the evening . ,
