JERSEY . —De Carteret Chapter ( No . 108 ) . —A convocation of the members of this recently-formed chapter vvas held at the Masonic Temple on Friday , the nth inst . On this occasion Bro . Captain Thomas

Woodwright Lucas , of Lodge Syy , was peifected , and III . Bro . J . Balfour Cockburn , M . D ., 31 , admitted as a joining member . Considering how very recently this chapter has been formed , 111 . Bro . Col . Malet de Carteret , M . W . S ., is to be congratulated , not only on the excellent manner in which he conducted the various ceremonies of this interesting Degree , but also on the very able and intelligent support he received from his officers .

The establishment of a Rose Croix chapter has long been a desideratum in the Channel Islands , and the Supreme Council of the A . and A . Rite could not have acted more wisely or more judiciously than in entrusting the furtherance of their Order to the hands of so eminent and distinguished a Mason as the illustrious brother after whom the chapter is named . The career of the De Carteret Chapter promises to be an eminently successful one , under the guidance of its energetic founder .

out the advantages to be derived from electing a Master three months before the installation . The S . M . said that , failing Fra . Collinson , the mantle would naturally descend upon the Secretary by right of seniority , and he thought the best thing for the college vvas to get him installed , and hasten to the termination of his office , so as to be able to

obtain his services once more as Secretary , The utmost regret at Fra . Collinson ' s determination vvas expressed by all . R . W . Fra . Dr . Wynn Westcott then read a lecture on the "Fama Fraternitatis Rosas Cruris , " which was warmly received , and ordered to be printed in the annual report . The college was then closed .

These came from lodges in the London district , and Deal , Holyhead , Stoke-on-Trent , Morpeth , IpswichWells

, , Hartlepool , Folkestone , Torquay , Malta , Gibraltar , Sheerness , Hampton Court , Harwich , Maldon , Shoreham , Coventry , Madras , Carlisle , Castlemaine ( Victoria ) , Zante , New York , Deera ( Bombay ) , and Stalybridge . In the course of a four hours' sitting , forty of these Teases vvere

relieved with a total sum of £ 1180 j three were deferred , and one vvas dismissed . There were three recommendations to Grand Lodgeof £ 100 each , and three of £ 50 eachj five recommendations to the Grand Master ot £ 40 each , and five of £ 30 each , - and eleven grants of £ 20 each , one of £ 15 , ten of £ 10 each , and one of £ 5 .

A GIFT TO THE MASONIC HALL AT LIVERPOOL .

An interesting event took place on Saturday afternoon , the 19 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , in the presence of the members of the Hall Committee , gathered together formally to receive from Major J . B .

Morgan , Uli ., a valuable organ , which he had kindly presented to and placed in the hall for the use of the brethren meeting there . Major Morgan , who is not a Freemason , had been led to make this handsome present by his appreciation of the philanthropic and benevolent efforts which he had seen in connection vvith the Order . The Committee also desired to present Major Morgan vvith an

illuminated address of thanks for his kindness . Bro . Robert Foote , P . M . 1505 , P . G . Treas ., occupied the chair , and Bro . A . D . Hesketh , P . M . 1182 the vicechair . The CHAIRMAN expressed the warmest thanks of the brethren for the kindness which had brought to them such a gift , and called upon Bro . J . T . Callow , Secretary of the

Hall Committee , to read the address . Bro . H . H . SMITH , P . M . 1505 , as Chairman of the House Committee , having also expressed the thanks of that Committee , then formally handed over the organ to the Treasurer of the hall , Bro . J . P . H . Tyson . P . M . 1182 .

The CHAIRMAN then presented an illuminated address to Major MORGAN , who acknowled ged the gift , concluding by making a liberal donation to each of the three local Masonic Charities . Afterwards a musical entertainment vvas given by the Childwall Quartet , consisting of Bros . Kirkham , Edwards , Bark , and Hegginbottom .

The establishment of a Rose Croix chapter has long been a desideratum in the Channel Islands , and the Supreme Council of the A . and A . Rite could not have acted more wisely or more judiciously than in entrusting the furtherance of their Order to the hands of so eminent and distinguished a Mason as the illustrious brother after whom the chapter is named . The career of the De Carteret Chapter promises to be an eminently successful one , under the guidance of its energetic founder .

A GIFT TO THE MASONIC HALL AT LIVERPOOL .

An interesting event took place on Saturday afternoon , the 19 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , in the presence of the members of the Hall Committee , gathered together formally to receive from Major J . B .

Morgan , Uli ., a valuable organ , which he had kindly presented to and placed in the hall for the use of the brethren meeting there . Major Morgan , who is not a Freemason , had been led to make this handsome present by his appreciation of the philanthropic and benevolent efforts which he had seen in connection vvith the Order . The Committee also desired to present Major Morgan vvith an

illuminated address of thanks for his kindness . Bro . Robert Foote , P . M . 1505 , P . G . Treas ., occupied the chair , and Bro . A . D . Hesketh , P . M . 1182 the vicechair . The CHAIRMAN expressed the warmest thanks of the brethren for the kindness which had brought to them such a gift , and called upon Bro . J . T . Callow , Secretary of the
