Bru McLeod also replied in appropriate terms . The toast of "The W . M . " was then proposed by Bro . Hi'shoo / P . M ., and duly responded to , as was also the toast of " The P . M . LODGE OF TRANQUILITY ( No . 185 ) . —The installation meeting of this ancient lodge was held at the Guildhall Tavern , on Monday last , the 21 st inst ., Bro , Bayley P . M . and W . M . in the chair . There were also nresent ' P . M . ' s Bros . Croaker , Staley , Ross , Bloomfield , Treasurer ; J . D . Barnett , S . Barnett , Defries , Myer Harris . Boaz and Moss : Bros . Asher , Myers , S . W . ; A .

Marks , J . W . ; H . Tipper , Secretary ; J . M . Levy , SD •L . Bloomfield , J . D . ; S . Rosenfeld , I . G . j Eisenm ' an ' n , D . C . ; Thompson , A . D . C . ; E . Barnett , and M . Marks , Stewards ; Visitors : Bros . H . T . Wood , A . G . D . C . ; lacobs , W . M . 205 ; Room , P . M . 2090 . The lodge was opened in due form and the minutes were read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for a joining

member , Bro . Harris , a former member of the lodge , and Messrs . Lazarus and Isaacs for initiation , all proving unanimous . Bro . Myer Harris then was allowed by the W . M . to take the chair , and on doing so stated to the lodge that it was 34 years that evening since he was initiated , and over 20 years since he was Master , but he had been anxious to occupy that position on this evening

that he might initiate Mr . Isaacs , his grandson . Mr . Iasacs was then initiated by Bro . Myer Harris , and Mr . Lazarusl by Bro . Bayley . Bro . Bayley then read a dispensation from the Grand Master allowing Bro . Harry Tipper , W . M . elect , to be installed into the chair of King Solomon , he being at the present time W . M . of the Hammersmith Lodge . Bro . J . D . Barnett then installed

the W . M . in a most impressive manner , to the great satisfaction of the brethren and visitors assembled . Bro . Barnett has on more than one occasion installed the Master , but all were of one opinion that in this he had certainly excelled himself . Bro . Tipper then invested his officers as follows : Bros . A . A . Marks , S . W . ; J . M . Levy , J . W . ; Bayley , l . P . M . and Treasurer ; Asher Myers ,

Secretary ; Bloomfield , S . D . ; S . Rosenfeld , J . D . ; Eisenmann , I . G . j Thompson , D . C . j E . Barnett , and M . Marks , Stewards . T he W . M . then , in the name of the lodge , presented Bro . Bayley with a handsome gold watch for Mrs . Bayley , instead of a P . M . jewel for his services during his year of office . The sanction of the lodge was obtained for forming , during this the centenary year of the lodge , a

Royal Arch Chapter to be called Tranquility Chapter . The circular from the Pro Grand Master was also considered . The lodge was then called off for the banquet , and afterwards the W . M . in rising to propose "The Health of Her Majesty The Queen " said he felt sensible of the responsibility of his task in this the Jubilee year of Her Majesty's reign . Her Majesty ascended the throne before many of

the members were born , and on that account perhaps they did not fully appreciate the splendid results of her reign . Never in the history of England has such great results been achieved . —Her Majesty fully sympathised with her subjects in all their trials , and that affection was returned a hundredfold by the subjects .

In proposing "The Health of The Grand Master , " the Worshipful Master said the Prince of Wales was one of the hardest working men of the kingdom j that whatever his hand found to do he did it with all his might ; that he did not consider his position as a mere ornamental one ; but was ever anxious to do his utmost to further the

interests of the Craft . In proposing " The Health of the Grand Officers , " the Worshipful Master said , referring to the portion of the installation ceremony , that such was the nature of their constitution , that , as some of necessity must rule and teach , while others must submit to learn and obey , extending that idea throughout the whole Order , they found that those

chosen to rule over them were eminently worthy of their confidence and respect . They held exalted positions in their social world , and were honoured by all men . They , as Masons , could appreciate the work they did to promote the interests of their Order , and there was no doubt that the high position which Masonry had taken , and the true principles of Freemasonry which existed among the

Brotherhood was due to the example set by their Grand Officers . Bro . Wood , A . G . D . C , in responding , said that a prize had been offered for those who could keep out of their speeches any mention of the Jubilee year , which the W . M . had certainly lost . There was also a prize offered to any Grand Officers who could say anything fresh in responding

to the toast . For his own part , he did not intend to enter the lists j but would say that he was much obliged for the way in which the toast had been received that evening , as > t was received on all occasions when there was a meeting of Masons . The Worshipful Master , in proposing "The Health of the Initiates , " said that that toast had been missing of late ,

although he did not think that it was the fault of Bro . Bayley . It was not always safe to go by external appearances ; but from the little he could see of them , the new members , he thought , would make capital Masons . They "ad already begun well , as they had contributed a guinea each to the Benevolent Fund . He hoped they would make "pid progress in the science , and ultimately become Master ° t the lodge .

Bro . Bayley , in proposing " The Health of the W . M ., " said that bro . Tipper had recalled the fact that it was he ( oro . Bayley ) who had initiated him some seven years ago , an d he had seen Bro . Tipper installed into the chair with great pleasure . He had watched his progress through the various offices of the lodge . Bro . Tipper had not only done

| " work in the lodge , but was always ready to contribute '" their pleasure at tho banquet table by his songs . Bro . Tipper , in reply , said that he would always do his "' most to merit the confidence placed in him . ,, * he Worshipful Master in proposing "The Health of ye Visitors " said that the toast was always received in "anquility Lodge with the utmost cordiality , and he

maintained they were second to none in the welcome they always gave . After reading the names he called upon Bros . Jacobs , W . M . 295 ; Room , P . M . 2090 ; Webb , P . M . Athol ; who had come all the way from the Isle of Man to attend the installation . Bro . Jacobsin reply said as Masterof one of thesister Jewish lodges he had responded to the invitation with very great

pleasure , especially as a very dear friend , Bro . Isaacs , had been initiated that evening . He thought it was a good idea that the W . M . of each of the Jewish lodges should be invited to each other ' s installation meeting . Bro . Room said it gave him extreme pleasure to be present , he had never heard the installation ceremony more beautifully rendered . He had made Bro . Tipper ' s acquaintance in

the best place for Masons to become acquainted , viz ., the lodge of instruction , and from what he had seen of Bro . Tipper ' s working he felt sure that they would have a most successful year . He had had the pleasure of installing Bro . Tipper as Master of the Hammersmith Lodge nearly 12 months ago , and he had accepted the invitation to attend this meeting with much satisfaction .

Bro . Webb said that he had come from the Isle of Man specially to attend this meeting , and he was not sorry he had come as he had learnt many things in lodge which he should be glad to take back with him and introduce into his own lodge . When he first became a Mason there was only one lodge in the Island , and they were sometimes obliged to go outside , and get some friend to come in and

help make a lodge ; now there were four or five lodges which had been formed out of the original one , and there was another warrant granted last week for a new one . The W . M ., in proposing "The Health of the Installing Master , " said that he had a debt of gratitude to pay for the kind manner in which the l . P . M . had consented to perform the ceremony . The Lodge of Tranquility was

always noted for the accurate and impressive way in which the installation ceremony was worked , but he did not believe it had ever been performed so beautifully . He personally thanked Bro . J . D . Barnett for so kindly undertaking the office . In proposing "The Health of the P . M . 's , " the W . M . said that the lodge could boast of a noble array , they were

always anxious and willing to help the W . M . in his work , The toast had peculiar significance as he intended to couple the name of the l . P . M . with it . Bro . Bayley was one of the most respected men in the lodge . They liked him as W . M . They enjoyed his society as P . M . They elected him Treasurer . They then re-elected him W . M . for a second time , and to show how true they were to poll re-elected him

as Treasurer . After the toast of "The Officers , " lodge was called off , the balance-sheet adopted , and the lodge was closed . During the evening the W . M . had provided an excellent selection of music , consisting of songs by Bro . F . J . Brittan , and Madame Bessie and Miss Webber . Bro . Bonawitz also contributed a splendid solo on the pianoforte .

S ., according to ancient custom , by the W . M ., who

performed the ceremony in a most impressive and masterly manner . The newly-installed W . M . then invested his officers for the ensuing year as follows : Bros . Wright , l . P . M . ; W . Gorrie , S . W . ; W . Eckersall , J . W .,- H . Lynn , S . D . ; F . Woolmer , J . D . ; J . Oiven , I . G . ; H . Young , D . C ; J . F . Jones and S . A .

M ., in a manner that gave satisfaction to all . Mr . Henry Tunstall Pickersgill was then initiated into the mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry in a manner that proves the lodge will lose none . of its lustre at the hands of its newly-installed

W . M . The lodge having been closed the brethren adjourned to a most elegant banquet , provided for them by Bro . Clemow in his usual excellent style . After ample justice had been done to the good things provided the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured in the customary hearty manner , special reference being made to the approaching Jubilee of Her Majesty the

Queen . In responding to the toast of "The Grand Officers , " Bro . Vincent , P . P . G . Swd . Br . _ Middlesex , said if the W . M . had been trying to put him in a quandary he had succeeded most admirably as he did not expect to be called on to respond to that toast . As their humble representative he thanked them for the very hearty manner in which the toast had been drunk , and complimented the W . M . for the very able manner in which he had undergone so severe a test .

The toast of "The W . M . " was proposed by Bro . Wright , I . P . M ., in a complimentary speech , and drunk with great enthusiasm . The W . M ., in reply , said he felt some misgivings when he left home that afternoon as to his ability to follow so brilliant an array of his predecessors in that office , but the cheery words of encouragement he received from the brethren , especially Bro . Wright , had inspired him with

confidence , and if he had in any way succeeded it was more due to their kind assistance than any merit of his own . He thanked them for the very hearty way in which they had drunk his health . The W . M ,, in proposing the toast of " The Visitors , " said the Stability Lodge always had great pleasure in proposing this toast . They had several distinguished ones there that evening , all of which he would have liked to have heard respond had time permitted .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

The toast was responded to by Bros . Greenwood and Humphries . Bro . Wri g ht , in reply to the toast of "The Installing Master , " said he had to thank the officers of the lodge , and especially Bro . Nixon , their indefatigable Secretary , for the very kind assistance and ready help they had afforded him during his year of office , and he had endeavoured to

complete his duty by installing his successor . He thanked the brethren for the very handsome jewel the W . M . had just pinned on his collar , as it was a tangible memento of his year of office . The Worshipful Master , in proposing the toast of " The Initiate , " said he had a few years to go through before he

arrived at the position of VV . M ., and trusted he would make the best use of the time in the interim . Bro . H . T . Pickersgill , in reply , said he thanked them for the very kind way in which they had drunk his health . He felt himself in a most unique position , and would follow to the best of his ability the advice given by the

VV . M . The toast of " The P . M . 's " was proposed in felicitous terms by the W . M ., and responded to in an equally cordial manner .

Bro . Nixon , in responding to the toast of " The Secretary , " thanked the brethren for re-electing him for the seventh time , and complimented them on the flourishing condition of the lodge , stating that they had funds in hand and had secured the admission of a candidate into the Girls' School .

The toast of " The Officers " having been given and responded to , the Tyler ' s toast brought one of the most successful meetings to a close . The toasts were interspersed with excellent singing by Bro . Ralph and others , under the direction of Bro . Stewart Lane , who presided in his usual efficient style at the pianoforte .

WESTBOURNE LODGE ( No . 733 ) . —Thc meeting for the installation of a W . M . of this lodge for ths coming year was held on Thursday , the 17 th inst ., at Lord's Hotel , St . John's Wood , and in honour of the occasion there was a very numerous gathering of the members , and a large number of guests from other lodges . The lodge was opened by Bro . Wickens , W . M ., and after

the minutes of the last meeting had been read and confirmed , Bro . Humfress , the S . W ., who had been unanimously elected to succeed Bro . Wickens , was presented for installation by Bro . Cottebrune , P . G . P ., D . C , and "father" of the Westbourne Lodge . Bro . Wickens thereupon addressed the members of the lodge on the subject of the established custom , and after obligating Bro .

Humfress as VV . M . elect , and requesting all but Installed Masters to retire , formed a Board of 2 S brethren , in whose presence he formally installed Bro . Humfress with the customary rites , and the members of the Board saluted the newly-installed Master according to ancient custom . As soon as he was installed Bro . Humfress handed a key to Bro . Walker , the Secretary , who at once applied it to the

lock of a mysterious cabinet cf rather large dimensions , and in a few minutes a handsome banner was erected behind the Master ' s chair ; and it transpired that Bro . Humfress , to mark the satisfaction which he felt in being elected to preside over the lodge in the Jubilee year ot his Sovereign had ordered this banner to be prepared by Bro . George Kenning , and now presented it to the Westbourne

Lodge . Ihe banner is of rich light blue silk , on which is painted '' inter alia , " a pretty little brook or burn or bourne with the sun sinking in the west . When it had been duly admired and the W . M . had been congratulated by his peers , the Board of Installed . Masters was closed , the brethren were re-admitted to the lodge and Bro . Humfress was proclaimed and saluted . He then proceeded

to invest the elected officers and to appoint and invest the remainder , the list of officers for the year being as follows : Bros . C . J . Biorn , S . W . ; W . Drew , J . W . ; J . Welford , Treas . ; S . R . Walker , Sec ; VV . Burton S . D . ; J . W . Curtis , J . D . ; J . Belsham , I . G . ; C . A . Cottebrune , D . C . ; R . Rogers , Asst . D . C . ; Dr . - Gawith , and T . H . Drake , Stwds . ; and Thomas , Tyler . Theinstallation ceremony was

then completed by Bro . Wickens delivering the customary addresses to the W . M ., to the Wardens , and to thebrethren . The whole was performed in a very workmanlike manner , as none will doubt who knows Bro . Wickens ' s zeal and ability . Lord Carnarvon ' s circular of the Sth January , respecting the celecration of her Majesty ' s Jubilee year was next discussed , and thefollowing resolution was carried

unanimously : "That the brethren of the Westbourne Lodge while agreeing with the first part of the circular do not agree with the latter part . " The aged widow of a brother who , twenty years ago , had been a member of the lodge for a single year was , on the motion of Bro . Wickens , I . P . M ., seconded by Bro . Cottebrune , D . C , voted a donation of £ 2 as . from the general fund of the lodge .

Four new members were proposed , and a handsome P . M . ' s jewel , together with a P . M . ' s collar , was presented by the W . M ., to Bro . Wickens , I . P . M ., to mark the appreciation of the brethren of the way in which he had discharged thc duties of Master during his year of office . The lodge was then closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet room , where a sumptuous dinner

was served on tables profusely decorated with choice flowers . After dinner there was the usual flow of Masonic oratory in proposing and responding for the customary list of loyal and Masonic toasts . After the toasts " The Oueen and the Craft , " and "The VV . M . and G . M . " had " been duly honoured , " The Health of the Grand Officers Past and Present" was proposed by the W . M . and responded to ,

coupled with the name of Bro . Cottebrune , who acknowledged the compliment . Bro . Wickens , I . P . M ., then rose and said that he had been entrusted once more with the gavel of the lodge , and he was veryjpleased to have that opportunity given him of expressing the feelings he had for the newly-installed Master . He would not detain them a great while because they knew just as well as he could tell them that their

W . M . was a very old member of the lodge , and one who he thought was as much respected as any member present . He predicted that during Bro . Humfress ' s year of office the brethren would have a very enjoyable time , and he hoped that one and all of the brethren would put their shoulders to the wheel and make Bro . Humfress ' s year of office a Jubilee year indeed . He himself intended to give Bro . Humfress all the support he could as I . P . M ., and he hoped their present Master ' s year of office would be as successful

as his own had been . Bro . jHumfress ( who was received with applause ) said he

maintained they were second to none in the welcome they always gave .
