ST OCKTON . —Philanthropy Lodge ( No . 940 ) . —On the afternoon of the 17 th instant the annual insallation of this lodge took place at the Freemasons ' ^ Hall . Bo ) . George Lazenby installed Bro . Cuthbert Allan in succession to himself , and he now becomes Immediate Past Master . The newly-elected W . Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

KINGSTON-ON-THAMES .-Brownrigg Lodge ( No . 16 3 S ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held on the 16 th inst ., and was largely attended . The W . M ., Bro . John Drewett , opened the lodge for the first time since his installation , assisted by his officers—Bros . G . Moorman , S . W . ; W . Drewett , J . W . ; H . VV . Humphreys , S . D . ; F . Montague , J . D . ; H . W . Willis ,

acting I . G . ; and VV . Lane , lyler . The first business was to consider the letter from the Pro Grand Master in reference to the Imperial Institute , and after some discussion it was resolved that , as a lodge , it was not deemed necessary to contribute . It was pointed out that there was a local fund for the same object , to which the brethren could contribute individually if they

approved of the scheme . Bro . McCall Chambers then presented himself to be raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., having been , by request , passed at the Dobie Lodge in January last . His proficiency in the former Degree having been tested satisfactorily , the ceremony was most impressively performed . Bro . G . C . Allen was then brought forward as a candidate for the Degree of F . C ,

to which he was in due form admitted ; and then the ballot was taken for Messrs . Sidney , Acton , and J . C . Boyd , who were unanimously elected and initiated in a way that made a great impression upon them . The greetings of the visitors were given at the proper time , and the brethren were then ready lor refreshment , having spent three hours in labour . This was most satisfatorily supplied by Kro .

Bond . All present were deeply interested in the working of the W . M ., who is but a young Mason , having been initiated in this lodge in June , 1 SS 1 ; and the l . P . M ., at the proper time , testified to the pleasure which it gave him and all the brethren to listen to his correct and eloquent delivery of the ritual . The visitors included Bros . Chapman , VV . Treasurer vice Bro . the Rev . F . C . de Crespigny resigned ; and Bro . Gilbert , Tyler . A Past Master's jewel was voted to the W . M . for the excellent manner in which he had conducted the affairs of the lodge during the past year . A notice of motion having been given to present the ex-Treasurer with a special jewel , and a special meeting convened for the 25 th inst ., the lodge was duly closed . There was no banquet .

M ., there being present no less than 25 Installed Masters . On the

new Master investing his officers he addressed each in appropriate terms , cleverly contriving to vary the words of commendation so as to suit the different brethren for the several offices . He then presented in appropriate terms a handsome jewel to the second Master of this flourishing new lodg-e , and Bro . Steeds suitably acknowledged the compliment .

On attention being again drawn to the letter from the Pro Grand Master as to the celebration of the Queen ' s Jubilee , the lodge unanimously resolved to approve the scheme in its entirety . After the transaction of other foimal business , "Hearty good wishes" were tendered from the Grand Lodge of England , Provincial Grand Lodge , and brethren representing more than 20 lodges ; and we were glad to observe that the newly-installed occupant of

the chair of K . S . duly closed in all the Degrees , instead of resuming merely , as is too frequently the case . I he Deputy Provincial Grand Master took occasion to express the gratification which Earl Ferrers would feel in that , the youngest lodge in the province , so heartily approving the scheme promulgated by the Earl of Carnarvon , and the hope that the other local lodges would loyally support the idea ,

P . P . G . O .,- C . E . Birch , A . Page , and VV . H . Noble , while Bro . Geo . Matt , P . P . G . P ., gave several of his able dramatic sketches . 'Ibis , the secorrd annual festival of the lodge , was most successful , and the gathering fully sustained the reputation of the brethren .

ALBION LODGE ( No . 9 ) . —The annual meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , 17 th 111 st ,, at the Crown Hotel , Essex-street , Strand . Bro . S , Vaiientme , P . M ., in the chair , and about 20 brethren present . The Secretary ' s report stated that 4 8 meetings hau been Held since the lodge was reconstituted , and during that time the First Degree had been retiearaed 2 y times , the Second Degree 21 times , the Third Degree 15 times , and tne instillation ceremony once , 'i'he ist Section of llie First Lecture was worked

six tunes , the 2 nd Section six times , the 3 rd Section three times , and the 4 th Section three times . The ollicers tor the year were elected as follows : —liros . S . The ceremony of consecration will be rehearsed sh jrtly , on the occasion when the new tracing boards are presented , due and timely notice of which event will De given in the Freemason , and brctnren invited to attend . THE GREAT CITY LODGE ( No . 1426 ) . —A meeting of this lodge of instruction was held at Masons' Hall , Masons ' -avenue , Coicman-street , E . G ., on Thursday , the 17 th inst . Present : tiros . Apologies for non-atiendance in consequence of the severe weather were numerous on this occasion . The lodge having been opened in the Three Degrees , the Preceptor , Bro . Stevens , delivered his lecture on the Ritual and Ceremonial of the Symooiic Degrees in Freemasonry , which was listened to with earnest attention , and as opportunity atforded received many

expressions of approval . The interest excited by the opening remarks of our worthy brother is maintained without diminution tnroughout an address which occupies more than two hours in delivery ; and the points of working and diversities in connection therewith are so numerous that the lecturer himself admits a necessity for omitting reference to many of them from fear of exhausting the attention of his audience . A clear explanation of the ritual is , however , the result ot his address , and no brother can be other wise than instructed and improved by hearing it . A very

cordial vote of tnauks to Bro . Stevens was recorded at the close of the lecture . The lodge was then cio » ed to thc First Degree , and live brethren were accepted as memoers . Uro . Thomas Poore , P . M ., P . Z ., was appointed to preside at the next meeting , when thc Fifteen Sections are to be worked . The VV . M . of The Great City Lodge , on behalf of his ollicers and himself , accepted the invitation of the lodge of instruction to occupy their rcspcctii-e official positions , on tne occasion of the rehearsal of the ceremony ot installation ay liro . IVY LODGE ( No . 144 O — A meeting was held at the Railway-Tavern , Battersea Rise , S . W ., on Thursday , the 17 th instant . Present : Bros . Cowiey , VV . ftl . ; Beddocs , S . W . ; Wright , J . W . ; Collick , S . D . ; Gib , J . G . ; George , Sec ; James , Richmond , Edwards , and others . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed , Bro . James , a candidate to be passed to the Second Degree , was duly examined and entrusted .

KINGSTON-ON-THAMES .-Brownrigg Lodge ( No . 16 3 S ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held on the 16 th inst ., and was largely attended . The W . M ., Bro . John Drewett , opened the lodge for the first time since his installation , assisted by his officers—Bros . G . Moorman , S . W . ; W . Drewett , J . W . ; H . VV . Humphreys , S . D . ; F . Montague , J . D . ; H . W . Willis ,

acting I . G . ; and VV . Lane , lyler . The first business was to consider the letter from the Pro Grand Master in reference to the Imperial Institute , and after some discussion it was resolved that , as a lodge , it was not deemed necessary to contribute . It was pointed out that there was a local fund for the same object , to which the brethren could contribute individually if they

approved of the scheme . Bro . McCall Chambers then presented himself to be raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M ., having been , by request , passed at the Dobie Lodge in January last . His proficiency in the former Degree having been tested satisfactorily , the ceremony was most impressively performed . Bro . G . C . Allen was then brought forward as a candidate for the Degree of F . C ,

to which he was in due form admitted ; and then the ballot was taken for Messrs . Sidney , Acton , and J . C . Boyd , who were unanimously elected and initiated in a way that made a great impression upon them . The greetings of the visitors were given at the proper time , and the brethren were then ready lor refreshment , having spent three hours in labour . This was most satisfatorily supplied by Kro .

Bond . All present were deeply interested in the working of the W . M ., who is but a young Mason , having been initiated in this lodge in June , 1 SS 1 ; and the l . P . new Master investing his officers he addressed each in appropriate terms , cleverly contriving to vary the words of commendation so as to suit the different brethren for the several offices . He then presented in appropriate terms a handsome jewel to the second Master of this flourishing new lodg-e , and Bro . Steeds suitably acknowledged the compliment .

On attention being again drawn to the letter from the Pro Grand Master as to the celebration of the Queen ' s Jubilee , the lodge unanimously resolved to approve the scheme in its entirety . After the transaction of other foimal business , "Hearty good wishes" were tendered from the Grand Lodge of England , Provincial Grand Lodge , and brethren representing more than 20 lodges ; and we were glad to observe that the newly-installed occupant of

the chair of K . S . duly closed in all the Degrees , instead of resuming merely , as is too frequently the case . I he Deputy Provincial Grand Master took occasion to express the gratification which Earl Ferrers would feel in that , the youngest lodge in the province , so heartily approving the scheme promulgated by the Earl of Carnarvon , and the hope that the other local lodges would loyally support the idea ,

Apologies for non-atiendance in consequence of the severe weather were numerous on this occasion . The lodge having been opened in the Three Degrees , the Preceptor , Bro . Stevens , delivered his lecture on the Ritual and Ceremonial of the Symooiic Degrees in Freemasonry , which was listened to with earnest attention , and as opportunity atforded received many

expressions of approval . The interest excited by the opening remarks of our worthy brother is maintained without diminution tnroughout an address which occupies more than two hours in delivery ; and the points of working and diversities in connection therewith are so numerous that the lecturer himself admits a necessity for omitting reference to many of them from fear of exhausting the attention of his audience . A clear explanation of the ritual is , however , the result ot his address , and no brother can be other wise than instructed and improved by hearing it . A very

cordial vote of tnauks to Bro . Stevens was recorded at the close of the lecture . The lodge was then cio » ed to thc First Degree , and live brethren were accepted as memoers . Uro .
