The ninth Master vvas duly intailed with full honours , the large Installing Board testifying to the popularity , kindness of heart , and goodfellowship of Bro . T . Morris . Mitchell moved the adoption of the report of the Audit Committee , Bro . S . Cochrane , P . G . T ., seconded , and it vvas unanimously accepted . On the motion of Bro . C . Woods , P . M ., Stwd ., seconded by Bro . Westley , P . M ., D . C , it vvas unanimously resolved to place 10 guineas on the list of Bro . Harvey , P . M ., vvho is a Steward for the Bays' Festival . Bro . LangJon , P . M ., gave a notice of motion .

All Masonic business being ended and the lodge closed , the b-ethren enjoyed a capital dinner , under the presidency of the new Master . Having done justice to the good things provided by the host , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were submitted by Bro . Morris , and were well received . Bro . S . Cochrane , P . G . T ., made a most felicitous reply for " The Grand Officers , "

pointing out the good vvork done by the Board of General Purposes as well as the Grand Officers . Bro . J . Mitchell , I . P . M ., proposed "The VV . M ., " than whom no better Mason nor better man could be found ; he vvould do honour to the Iodge that had given him his high office . Courteous , able , genial , and generous , he vvould always live in their memories as ' * one of the best . "

Bro . T . Morris , VV . M ., suitably responded . He had learnt something already of the dignity and responsibility of his ofiice . He expected , vvith their generous support , a capital year of ofiice . The VVorshipfuI Master proposed "The Installing Master , " and in the name of the lodge presented him vvith a Past Master ' s jewel . Their eighth Master had been a complete success , his memory vvould ever live in their hearts . Bro . John Mitchell , I . P . M ., responded .

The Worshipful Master proposed "The Visitors , " many of whom were old fiiends , all of whom were welcome , and each highly esteemed among his brethren and fellows . Bro . Geo Reed , P . M . 13 , was delighted to be present . All had been so well done that he vvas sure his Grace the Duke of Fife must be delighted to have his name associated with such an exemplary lodge . As the Duke himself vvas a capital fellow and thorough Mason , so those who worked under his name vvere equally a credit and

success . Bro . Lucas was among friends he had known so long that he hardly felt like a visitor , but he congratulated them on tlieir good fellowship . Bro . Bond , P . P . G . D . C . Kent , wished them a most successful year , and hoped to see more of what the Master " could " do . Bro . S . Rashleigh , P . M . 902 , as "the father in Freemasonry" of the W . M ., vvas most pleased to see him in his honourable post . He knew him as a man of business as well as a Mason , and equally respected him . The Iodge could be certain that whatever he undertook would be well done .

The toasts of "The Past Masters , " "The Treasurer and Secretary , " "The Ollicers , " and the Tyler's toast were duly received . London County Council Lodge , No . 2603 . The installation meeting of this Iodge was held at the Hotel Cecil , Strand , on the i ^ th inst ., when members and visitors to the number of about 120 assembled to welcome the incoming , and speed the retiring , VV . A gold bar , suitably inscribed , was voted to Comp . Clemow , M . E . Z ., in recognition of his second year ' s tenure of office . Comp . J . VV . Gaze , P . Z ., Treas ., sent an apology for non-attendance . The chapter vvas then closed . A banquet followed .

West Smithfield Chapter , No . 1623-The installation meeting was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , E . G ., on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst . After the chapter was opened , and the minutes read and confirmed , Comp . II . Forss—the oldest P . Z . of the chapter—proceeded to install Comp . A . D . T . Hamilton , P . Z ., but as he had already served as First Principal , Comp . H . Forss placed film in the chair vvith a few appropriate words of congratulation . It then transpired that

both the companions vvho should have been installed in the chairs of H . and J . were unable to attend , owing to severe illness , so the remainder of Comp . Forss ' s work had to be postponed . The M . E . Z . then very impressively invested the other officers as follows : Comps . R . VV . Goddard , Treas . ; R . F . Brickdale , P . P . G . P . S . Herts , S . E . ; R . S . Cobden , P . S . ; J . Davidson , ist A . S . ; T . Reeves , 2 nd A . S . ; and Charles Shepperd , Janitor .

The ladies' banquet and soiree daiisante had been arranged to follow the meeting , and the companions repaired to the reception room vvhere the visitors vvere announced by Comp . S . Ellis , I . P . Z ., and welcomed by the M . E . Z ., Comp . A . D . T . Hamilton , and Mrs . Hamilton . After the banquet , the usual loyal toasts vvere enthusiastically received , and in reply to " The Grand Officers , " Comp . Hickson , Grand Officer , and Comp . C . J . R . Tijou , P . A . G . P ., responded ; both expressing their pleasure at being the honoured guests at so pleasant a meeting , and their gratification at the large number of ladies that were present .

The toast of " M . E . Z . " vvas proposed by the . I . P . Z ., and Comp . Hamilton , in a few chosen words , expressed his gratification at being again placed in the honourable and enviable position of the First Principal of so flourishing a chapter , and regretted veiy much the illness that prevented the other Principals from attending , after which he performed the very pleasing task of presenting the I . P . Z . vvith the P . Z . jewel that had been voted b y the companions . Comp . S . Ellis very heartily thanked the M . E . Z . and companions for the honour they had done him in presenting him with so valuable a jewel .

" The Ladies' toast was ably proposed by Comp . C . Patrick , P . Z ., the response being given by Comp . R . B . Whiteman . The next toast , that of " The Visitors " vvas proposed by the S . E ., vvho expressed the gratification of the companions of the chapter at the presence of so many distinguished visitors , vvhich vvas very heartily received by the companions , and responded to bv Comps . C J . R . Tijou , P . A . G . P ., Hickson , and J . Gale .

After the toast of " The Officers " the brethren adjourned to the ball room , the musical arrangements of which were ably carried out by Comp . R . H . Goddard , P . Z ., Treas . The brethren adopted that of alternate dince and song , quartette , recitation , & c , vvhich gave great satisfaction , as those who vvere unable to disport themselves i n Terpsichorean pleasures were interested in the musical treat afforded by the Savoy Quintette . Mr . T . F . Noakes presided at the pianoforte and contributed several beautiful solos on the instrument , besides accompanying many of the singers .

unfortunately absent through the present fashionable complaint . The Scribe E . was re-invested for the 14 th year , the P . S . was Comp . J . D . Brooks , and ist Asst . Soj ., Comp . Corbett . ' The P . Z . ' s jewel of the chapter vvas presented to the retiring M . E . Z ., and the W . M . of the Craft lodge of same name vvas proposed as a candidate for exaltation at the next meeting .

Tin ; SUSSEX MASONIC CLUII , which is prosperous in its new premises , No . 25 , Queen's-road , has just been increased by the erection of a new building to be used as a billiard-room , and which will be a great convenience to its members . The brethren of the club will be pleased to receive a visit from any Mason who may be in Brighton , and non-resident are at present received as members at a very small annual subscription , and there are bedrooms available for their use .

All Masonic business being ended and the lodge closed , the b-ethren enjoyed a capital dinner , under the presidency of the new Master . Having done justice to the good things provided by the host , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were submitted by Bro . Morris , and were well received . Bro . S . Cochrane , P . G . T ., made a most felicitous reply for " The Grand Officers , "

pointing out the good vvork done by the Board of General Purposes as well as the Grand Officers . Bro . J . Mitchell , I . P . M ., proposed "The VV . M ., " than whom no better Mason nor better man could be found ; he vvould do honour to the Iodge that had given him his high office . Courteous , able , genial , and generous , he vvould always live in their memories as ' * one of the best . "

Bro . T . Morris , VV . M ., suitably responded . He had learnt something already of the dignity and responsibility of his ofiice . He expected , vvith their generous support , a capital year of ofiice . The VVorshipfuI Master proposed "The Installing Master , " and in the name of the lodge presented him vvith a Past Master ' s jewel . The Worshipful Master proposed "The Visitors , " many of whom were old fiiends , all of whom were welcome , and each highly esteemed among his brethren and fellows . Bro . Geo Reed , P . M . 13 , was delighted to be present . All had been so well done that he vvas sure his Grace the Duke of Fife must be delighted to have his name associated with such an exemplary lodge . As the Duke himself vvas a capital fellow and thorough Mason , so those who worked under his name vvere equally a credit and

After the chapter was opened , and the minutes read and confirmed , Comp . II . Forss—the oldest P . Z . of the chapter—proceeded to install Comp . A . D . T . Hamilton , P . Z ., but as he had already served as First Principal , Comp . H . Forss placed film in the chair vvith a few appropriate words of congratulation . It then transpired that

both the companions vvho should have been installed in the chairs of H . and J . were unable to attend , owing to severe illness , so the remainder of Comp . Forss ' s work had to be postponed . The M . E . Z . then very impressively invested the other officers as follows : Comps . R . VV . Goddard , Treas . ; R . F . Brickdale , P . P . G . P . S . Herts , S . E . ; R . S . Cobden , P . The ladies' banquet and soiree daiisante had been arranged to follow the meeting , and the companions repaired to the reception room vvhere the visitors vvere announced by Comp . S . Ellis , I . P . Z ., and welcomed by the M . E . Z ., Comp . A . D . T . Hamilton , and Mrs . Hamilton . After the banquet , the usual loyal toasts vvere enthusiastically received , and in reply to " The Grand Officers , " Comp . Hickson , Grand Officer , and Comp . C . J . R . Tijou , P . A . G . P ., responded ; both expressing their pleasure at being the honoured guests at so pleasant a meeting , and their gratification at the large number of ladies that were present .

The toast of " M . E . Z . " vvas proposed by the . I . P . Z ., and Comp . Hamilton , in a few chosen words , expressed his gratification at being again placed in the honourable and enviable position of the First Principal of so flourishing a chapter , and regretted veiy much the illness that prevented the other Principals from attending , after which he performed the very pleasing task of presenting the I . P . Z . vvith the P . Z . jewel that had been voted b y the companions . Comp . S . Ellis very heartily thanked the M . E . Z . and companions for the honour they had done him in presenting him with so valuable a jewel .

" The Ladies' toast was ably proposed by Comp . C . Patrick , P . Z ., the response being given by Comp . R . B . Whiteman . The next toast , that of " The Visitors " vvas proposed by the S . E ., vvho expressed the gratification of the companions of the chapter at the presence of so many distinguished visitors , vvhich vvas very heartily received by the companions , and responded to bv Comps . C J . R . Tijou , P . A . G . P ., Hickson , and J . Gale .

After the toast of " The Officers " the brethren adjourned to the ball room , the musical arrangements of which were ably carried out by Comp . R . H . Goddard , P . Z ., Treas . The brethren adopted that of alternate dince and song , quartette , recitation , & c , vvhich gave great satisfaction , as those who vvere unable to disport themselves i n Terpsichorean pleasures were interested in the musical treat afforded by the Savoy Quintette . Mr . T . F . Noakes presided at the pianoforte and contributed several beautiful solos on the instrument , besides accompanying many of the singers .

Tin ; SUSSEX MASONIC CLUII , which is prosperous in its new premises , No . 25 , Queen's-road , has just been increased by the erection of a new building to be used as a billiard-room , and which will be a great convenience to its members . The brethren of the club will be pleased to receive a visit from any Mason who may be in Brighton , and non-resident are at present received as members at a very small annual subscription , and there are bedrooms available for their use .
