Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

express his admiration of Bro . Tennant . He believed there was not a lodge or a province under the Grand Lodge of England lhat could boast of so energetic and zealous a Mason , or of a more able Deputy Prov . Grand Master . Having referred to the amount of work which Bro . Tennant had performed during the day , not only in the Naunton Davies Chapter , but in the ceremony of installation of the

W . M . of the lodge , he asked the brethren to receive the toast with Masonic enthusiasm . Bro . Tennant having responded , proposed the toast of "The W . M ., " which was acknowledged by Bro . W . R . Perrott . "The M . E . Z . of Naunton Davies Chapter" was proposed by Bro . M . Tennant , and responded to by Bro . H . Naunton Davies .

Bro . S . Lewis having proposed " The P . M . ' s , " Bros . Hunter and Male replied . The toast of " The Visitors " was responded to by Bro . W . R . Davies , and " The Prov . Grand Officers " by Bro . John Francis M'Clune . The other toasts were " The Chapters and Lodges of the Province , " "The Masonic Charities , " and the Tyler ' s toast , after which the proceedings terminated , and the brethren separated .

M . 1000 ; and John Taylor , jun ., P . M . 1817 .

The lodge having been opened , Bro . T . F . E . Ayles was passed to the Second Degree , and Bros . A . M . Tod , Geo . Brooke , and F . H . Davies were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . The accounts , showing the lodge to be in a satisfactory financial condition , were approved ; and a discussion on proposed rules for a Benevolent Fund was again adjourned . The W . M . then proposed— " lhat some

mark of appreciation be offered to Bro . W , H . Lockey for his very efficient services to the lodge from its foundation . " The motion was seconded , and unanimously carried ; and a Committee was appointed to consider and recommend the form which the mark of appreciation should take . The ceremony of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . E . H . Baily , was then performed most impressively by Bro . Crump , and at its conclusion the W . M . invested his officers as follows :

Bros . S . . 1 . J . Kirby , S . W . ; W . W . Barber , J . W . ; Rev . Canon Whittington , Chap . ; A . J . Dudgeon , Treas . ; W . L . Dudgeon , Sec ; Bradshaw Brown , D . of C . j W . J . Crump , S . D . ; E . Johnson , J . D . j W . H . Lockey , Stwd . ; and A . W . Martin , Tyler . The W . M . was appointed the representative of the lodge on the Essex Provincial Charity Committee ; and a candidate for

initiation having been proposed , the lodge was closed . As the greater part of the Tilbury Hotel is closed , the brethren afterwards crossed over the river to Gravesend , where , at the New Falcon , the annual banquet was served , under the presidency of the W . M . After dinner the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were briefly proposed from the chair , and heartily drunk .

In responding for "The Grand Officers of England , " Bro . Albert Lucking said that , standing there , he was reminded of that cheerless day when they trudged across the marshes to consecrate the lodge at a spot now covered by the Docks . But although it was cheerless outside , everything was most cheerful within , and he ventured to say that the hospitality of the lodge upon that occasion

would never be forgotten in the Province of Essex . "The Provincial Grand Officers" found an excellent sponsor in Bro . Barrett , who , in the course of a neat little speech , expressed the pleasure they felt at rinding the lodge in such a prosperous condition . In a flattering speech the I . P . M . then proposed " The Health of the W . M . "

In replying , Bro . Baily ( who was only initiated four years ago ) said he felt it to be a very great honour to have been placed in the chair that day . He would do all he could to prove himself worthy of the distinction they had conferred upon him , and he hoped he should have the support of all in any efforts he might make to improve their work .

Bro . Walker , P . M . 733 , and Bro . Noad responded for "The Visitors , " and the W . M . then proposed "The Installing Master . " It was , he said , always a pleasure to sec work done in the way Bro . Crump performed the ceremony that afternoon . Personally , he thanked Bro . Crump most heartily ; and , in concluding , expressed the wish—

which was emphatically endorsed by the brelhren—that they might have Bro . Crump long with them . The Installing Master , in acknowledging the compliment , tendered a little practical advice to the brethren upon working the ceremonies . They should always be ready , he remarked , to do their duty in any office to which the W . M . might appoint them . He felt sure the lodge would go

through the year with the utmost possible credit , and that the officers would show to the other members of the lodge who are coming on , the way in which the work of Masonry really could be done . The W . M ., in giving " The Past Masters , " said they only numbered four , but four better and cheerier men could not be found in a day ' s march . Bro . Walker , whose name

was coupled with the toast , modestly remarked that he was not a very good specimen of their Past Masters , and then proceeded to allude to the necessity of the members attending the lodge of instruction . Bro . Donald Baynes ( who rose in response to the unanimous wish of the brethren ) happily remarked that there were now four old chickens in the Past Master's nest , and

he congratulated Bro . Baily upon being cock of the walk . Bro . A . J . Dudgeon , another popular Past Master , also replied , and expressed himself as confident that the Tilbury Lodge must succeed . Their W . M . was the second initiate of the lodge , and the Inner Guard he himself initiated during his year of office . The W . M . proposed "The Officers , " and spoke in

favour of a lodge of instruction being held every fortnight . Bro . Kirby , S . W ., assured the W . M . that the officers would help him in every possible way ; and he thanked him most heartily for the kind way in which he had proposed their healths . The Tyler ' s toast was then given by Bro . Martin and brought to a close ; a most enjoyable evening , the pleasures of which were greatly facilitated by the arrangements made by Bro . Bradshaw Brown , D . C .

SURBITON . —Surbiton Lodge ( No . 2146 ) . — The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Maple Hall , on the 15 th inst ., when there were present Bros . A . Storr , P . A . G . P ., W . Budden , I . G . ; W . Wakeford , D . C . ;

and Jas . Hill , P . M ., Org . There was a good attendance of the subscribing members , and the honorary members were represented by Bros . F . West , P . G . D ., D . P . G . M . ; Ferryman , P . A . G . P . ; and Jas . Squire , P . M . Visitors : Bros . John Drewett , P . M . 1 ( 538 , P . A . G . P . ; W . Drewett , W . M . SSg ; W . Chapman , I . P . M . 889 ; White , P . M . 1257 ; Bolton , P . M . S 62 ; Hogg , S . W . 1 S 72 ; F . King ,

889 ; Wright , S 89 ; H . Wilcox , 3 ; and R . Walden , S . D . 1658 . The Deputy Grand Master of the Province was saluted in due form on entering the lodge . Bros . J . G . Beck , C . H . Adkins , and H . W . Bates were raised to the Degree of M . M . by Bro . Gibbes , P . M ., at the request of the W . M ., who then installed his successor in the chair of

K . S . with marked ability . The W . M . elect , Bro . Alex . Wilson , P . M ., was presented by Bro . Gibbes , P . M ., who acted as D . of C in a highly efficient manner . The newly-installed W . M . appointed and invested his officers , who are as before , but each one step higher , save only the Treasurer and Secretary . It is the rule in this lodge that no brother can proceed onward in office without

having proved his ability ; hence the Surbiton Lodge is officered in a way which ensures correct working in every stage . Bro . R . J . Williams was placed on the first round of the ladder , as Stwd . After the transaction of business affecting the lodge only , the D . P . G . M . briefly addressed the brethren . It gave him great pleasure , he said , to see that the spirit which was shown at the formation of the

lodge was still continued in it . The officers , by accepting office that night , had pledged themselves to act up to the standard set them , and that was , as they had seen , a very high one . Bro . West regretted that another engagement at a distance prevented him from staying longer , and took his leave of the W . M . and brethren with " Hearty good wishes . " We should mention that Bro . Storr gave the

antient charges in Old Stability working , and he was warmly congratulated upon his excellent carrying out of the installation ceremony . The lodge being closed , dinner was served under the direction of Bro . Packham , and the customary toasts were given in eloquent terms by the W . M ., who is as efficient in the " Fourth " as in any other Degree .

At the proper time a handsome P . M . ' s jewel was given to Bro . Storr , whose duties in the chair were most faithfully performed during his tenure of office . The Surbiton Lodge is not unmindful of the grand principle of the Order , and the sum of £ 2 was deposited by the members in the Charity-box when passed round the tables .

Among the toasts given was that of "The Masonic Press , " of which the W . M . spoke in very gratifying and flattering terms , and called on Bro . W . Drewett to respond . A good supply of vocal music varied the toasts and speeches , for which thanks are due to the worthy W . M ., by whom the professional talent was engaged . The lodge now numbers 40 subscribing members , and is yet only entering upon its third year of existence .

A joining member was proposed , and tbe lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to supper .

TILBURY . —Tilbury Lodge ( No . 2006 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge was held at the Tilbury Hotel , on Saturday , the 12 th inst . Bro . C . R . Walker , W . M ., was in the chair , supported by Bros . E . H . Baily , S . W . ; S . J . J . Kirby , M . D ., J . W . ; A . J . Dudgeon , Treas . ; VV . L . Dudgeon , Sec . ; W . J . Crump , P . G . S ., J . Barrett , Bradshaw Brown , P . G . S . j and the following visitors : Bros . S . R . Walker , P . M . ; C . Floyd , W . M . 1000 j J . T . Powell , P . M . 101 ; E . E . Phillips , P .

SURBITON . —Surbiton Lodge ( No . 2146 ) . — The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Maple Hall , on the 15 th inst ., when there were present Bros . A . Storr , P . A . G . P ., W . A . G . P . ; and Jas . Squire , P . M . Visitors : Bros . John Drewett , P . M . 1 ( 538 , P . A . G . P . ; W . Drewett , W . M . SSg ; W . Chapman , I . P . M . 889 ; White , P .
