Passmore Edwirds , has recently been erected at a cost of £ 1200 , was inaugurated on Saturday last , the bri-f opening ceremony being performed by Mrs . Passmore Edwards . A vote of thanks , on the motion of the Mayor of Gravesend , was subsequently carried with acclamation to Bro . Edwards , who congratulated the Committee on the success with which they had grappled with the debts and difficulties of a twelvemonth since .

BRO . SIR H . TRUEMAN WOOD presented the prizes and certificates won by the successlul competitors from tbe Polytechnic Institute in the recent Society of Arts Examination , on Monday . Mr . HIS ROYAL HIGHNKSS THE PRINCE OF WALES , during his stay in Newmarket , on Wednesday visited the workhouse there and the new little church to which his Royal Highness liberally subscribed . The Prince went into the kitchen and saw a suet pudding cut lor the inmates' dinner .
