interest that Bro , Wright bad taken in every duty allotted to him , and felt every confidence that in the proud position he now occupied the brethren would never have cause to regret placing him thevc . The toast was wyll received , and the W . M ., in reply , said he thanked Bro . Ingham sincerely for his kind wishes , and the brethren for so heartily responding to the toast . He felt very proud at having attained the ' position he had so long

desired ; and , at the same time , he felt grateful to the P . M . ' s and brethren for rallying around and supporting him as they had done , and with such help he felt lie could do all in his power to warrant their confidence during his year of office . In proposing " The Health of the Installing Master , " Bro . Moorsi P . M ., said he was sure the announcement of such a toast would receive the enthusiasm from the brethren it deserved , as no one member had dene

more for the welfare of their lodge than Bro . Cumings . Bro . Moors also remarked that it was very pleasing to notice so many faces there that evening that ' had been associated with the lodge since its formation , and there was only one familiar face absent , which was that of Bro . Hall , P . M ., whom he ( Bro . Moors ) understood he was at the present time in Cape Town , where he was no doubt doing his duty . In concluding his remarks , Bro . Moors said he

did not think for so young a lodge they could be accused of want of hospitality , inasmuch as he had noticed many faces present that he had had the pleasure of seeing there year after year , and he felt very glad that , possessing so expert a brother as their Installing " Master , there would not be any occasion to seek the assistance of other lodges when such work was required to be done as had been so satisfactorily performed that day ; and he trusted that when the time

arrived , which he hoped would be far distant , that Bro . Cumings thought fit to sever his connection with the lodge , that he would do his utmost to instruct one or two brethren to follow in the footsteps of so worthy a brother . Bro . Cumings , replying , said that the pleasure of installing the W . M . had been greatly enhanced by the knowledge that Bro . Wright was his proposer in Masonry , and such a pleasure rarely falls to the lot of any Mason .

Bro . Cumings , in thanking Bro . Moors forhis kind remarks , said he had always taken a great interest in the welfare of their lodge , and had never considered any duty a trouble . He had always been , and hoped still to be , of service . He could well afford to sit down now as a P . M ., having worked his way up , step by step , to that honourable position , and he thought that the younger brethren should be stimulated by the same desire to attain that coveted

distinction . Bro . Cumings also referred to the late Bro . Romaine Callender , who -onsecrated the lodge and installed Bros . Simpson and Hall ; and he ( Bro . Cumings ) felt sure that the members of the Ashbury Lodge would be glad to know that they need not go outside the lodge for assistance when work was required to be performed . He thanked them all for their kind expressions of appreciation for his humble efforts , which he would at any time be

pleased to render . Bro . Reynolds , S . W ., next rose , and , in culogstic terms , proposed " 1 'he Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Niewton . " At -the same time he felt very pleased on behalf of the members to present him with a Past Masters jewel in acknowledgment of the services he had rendered during his year of office . This announcement was received with applause , and after it had subsided , Bro .

Newton rose and returned thanks in suitable terms for the handsome present . Several other toasts were proposed and responded to , and a most enjoyable evening was enlivened by some excellent singing from Bros . j . H-. Greenwood , W . Dumville , and Peels , whilst our talented brethren Bros , R . Dottie and Daniel Donbavand delighted their hearers with some masterly readings , the latter brother ' s "Dream of Eugene Aram " being artistically rendered .
