Sections , a good attendance of members was anticipated and realised . Among those present were Bros . Brown , Roberts . Cohen , Haslip , Dupree , Bromley , Goldberg , Cheverton , Cracknell , Musto , jun ., Hodges , Carr , and the brethren who worked the Sections .

Webb for the very excellent manner in which he had presided was unanimously

passed , also conferring upon that brother the honorary membership of the Burdett Lodge of Instruction . A similar expression of thanks was also accorded Bro . Past Master Barnes for the able manner in which he had performed his duties as S . W . These were suitably acknowledged , and lodge was duly closed and adjourned .

ISLINGTON LODGE ( No . 1471 ) . —About thirty members of the above lodge of instruction met _ at the Moorgate Tavern , on Tuesday evening , the 15 th inst , to hold the annual supper of the lodge , under the presidency of Bro . J . L . Mather , P . P . G . D . C Herts , the Preceptor . On the cloth being withdrawn , the usual loyal toasts were given by the Chairman and duly responded to . Bro . Binckes ,

the Secretary of the Boys' School , replying to the toast of "The Charities , " made an eloquent appeal on their behalf , observing that from the frequency of his utterances on this subject a great deal of ingenuity would be required on his part to say anything new . He could only reiterate what he had so often said before , and lay the claims of the several

Charities before the brethren for support with all the _ earnestness he could display , asking those who had assisted to continue their efforts in the cause , and those who had not yet contributed to give the matter their earnest consideration . Bro . Bincke ' s remarks were listened to with much attention by the brethren present .

ROYAL COMMEMORATION LODdE ( No . 15 S 5 ) . —At the ordinary weekly meeting of this lodge , held on Monday , the 31 st ult ., at the Railway Hotel , Highstreet , Putney , at eight o ' clock , the installation ceremony was worked by Bro . Charles J . Digby , P .-M . 933 , in his usual careful and impressive manner . There was a very larce attendance of brethren , and amongst them were the

Di g by for his kindness in attending , and foi the pleasure and instruction he had afforded the brethren , was carried by acclamation ; and he having replied in felicitous terms the lodge was closed in ancient form , and the brethren separated after a most enjoyable evening .

TREDEGAR LODGE ( No . 1625 ) . —The last regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Royal Hotel , Mile End , Bro . Moss occupied the chair , supported by Bros . Clements , S . W . ; J . Taylor , J . W . ; Hubbert , S . D . ; C Kendall , J . D . ; Brittain , I . G . ; T . J . Barnes , P . M . Treas . ; B . Stewart , Hon . Sec . ; also Bros . Clark , Macdonald , Stephens and others . Lodge was opened in due form and minutes were read and confirmed and lodge

advanced . Bro . Clark was interrogated and entrusted , after which the ceremony of raising wis worked , Bro . Clarke being candidate . The third section of the lecture was worked by Bro . Stephens with the assistance of the brethren , Bro . P . M . Barnes' acting Preceptor . Bro . Clements was elected W . M . tor the first Monday in the ensuing month , the meeting on Monday next , 2 Sth inst ., being set apart for working the Fifteen Sections , when Bro . G . H . Stephens will preside . Lodge was then closed .

CRUSADERS LODGE ( No . 1677 ) . — The adjourned annual meeting of this lodge was held at St . John ' s Gate / Cle ' rkenwell , on Thursday , the 10 th inst ., there beinjr present among numerous other members Bros . William Simpson , W . M ' . ; Arthur E . Gladwell , S . W . ; J . S . Fletcher , ' J . W . ; R . D . Cummings , Preceptor ; Chas . G . Payn , S . D . ; J . S . Tillett , J . D . ; W . J . Goods ,

I . G . ; Harold Halliday , Sec . T he lodge was opened with the usual ceremony and the minutes of last meeting read and confirmed . The ceremony of passing was then rehearsed very abl y by Bro . Simpson , and special thanks were due to him for the able manner in which he had managed the whole of the business duties of the evening . This being an off night the officers were to be elected for

the ensuing year , the revised bye-laws were to be discussed , and other business had to be transacted which required great tact . 'This was all done to the greatest satisfaction of all present . Bro . A . E . Gladwell was unanimously appointed W . M . for the 17 th inst ., and appointed officers in rotation . The Secretary was ordered to get the revised bye-laws printed and distributed to the members

on the night of the supper if posssible , which will take place on the first Thursday in December . Bro . Cummings , Preceptor ; G . IT . Calderwood , Treas . ; H . Halliday , Sec . ; were unanimously dieted for the ensuing year . Bro . Cummings , who is going up as Steward at the annual festival in aid of the funds of the Royal Masonic Benevolent

Institution for the aged people , on this evening instituted a ballot association for the purpose of enabling members of this lodge to become Life Subscribers or Life Governors of either of the Masonic Charities by weekly payment of one shilling , a ballot to take place as soon as £ 5 5 s . is subscribed . This ending the business , lodge was closed in due form and adjourned .

NORWICH . —Cabbell Chapter ( No . S 07 ) . —The most successful meeting of this chapter since its resuscitation was held on Friday , the 4 th inst ., at the Masonic Club-rooms , No . 23 , St . Giles-street , Norwich , when every officer of the chapter evinced their proficiency in the highest degree . The chapter was opened , at about 7 . 30 o'clock in the evening , by the Principals . Barnard , 213 . The minutes of the last convocation were then read and confirmed . The business of the evening was to exalt Bros . Jefferson Holt , of Cabbell Lodge , No . S 07 , and Jesse Weyer , of Walpole Lodge , No . 1500 , which ceremony was excellently and impressively rendered by the Three Principals , the lectures being perfectly and correctly given . At the conclusion of the ceremony the bye-laws were read and

confirmed . I he election of officers then took place , which resulted as follows : Comps . A . J . Berry , Z . ; J . B . Budgmarij- IT . ; George Green , J . ; J . Edwin Baldwin , E . ; Thos . Mackley , N . ; H . A . W . Reeves , P . S . ; Thomas Campling , 1 st A . S . ; Henry Rosling 2 nd A . S . ; and George Baxter , Treas . The voting being unanimous . The chapter was then closed in ancient form . At the conclusion Comp . S . N . Berry , M . E . Z ., for the first time for

many years past , gave the charge in an excellent manner . During the proceedings Ex . Comp . J . Stanley , on behalf of his father , the last S . E _ . of the chapter previous to its somewhat decay , in a very impressive speech , presented the old minute and other books belonging to the chapter , which had been in his father ' s possession since they were committed to his care ; and the same ivere graciously accepted .

A vote of thanks was then passed to Comp . Stanley for his kind gift and expressions . The companions then adjourned to the bar . queting-room , where an excellent supper had been prepared , at the conclusion of which the usual Royal Arch , loyal , and Masonic toasts were given and duly acknowledged . We congratulate Comp . S . N . Berry on his success during the past year , and look forward to the equal success of his brother and Comp . A . J . Berry .

DORIC CHAPTER ( No . 933 ) . —This flourishing chapter , which is now established in its new quarters at Bro . J . Clayton's , Duke ' s Head , 79 , Whitechapel-road , E ., held its usual meeting on Monday evening , the 21 st inst ., commencing at seven o ' clock p . m . 'The were present Comps . T . J . Barnes , P . Z ., Preceptor ; Macdonald , Z . ; P . Macarthy , IT . ; Durell , J . ; W . H . Myers , P . Z ., Scribe E . ; I . P . Cohen , N . ; W . Musto , P . Z ., P . S . ; Robson , and others .

The chapter having been opened , omp . Macdonald worked the ceremony of exaltation , Comp . Robson being candidate . The very able manner in which the entire work is done by all the companions is a very enjoyable feature at this chapter of instruction , and must be witnessed to be appreciated . Chapter was closed in due form , and adjourned until the first Monday in December . There will not be a meeting here next Monday in consequence of several of the companions having undertaken to work Sections at the Tredegar Lodge on the 2 Sth inst .

FRANCIS BURDETT LODGE ( No . 211 ) . — The members of this lodge met at the Albany Hotel , Twickenham , on the iGth inst ., when there were in attendance , among others , Bros . Raymond Thrupp , P . P . G . W . Middx . and Surrey , & c , & c , acting \ V . M ., in the absence through severe indisposition of W . Bro . E . Hopwood , ' P . P . G . S . B . Middx . and Surrey ; Sanders , S . W . ; T . C . Walls , G . S . B ., Sic ., J . W . ; W . Hammond , P . G . S ., & c ,

Secretary ; Handel , S . O . ; Tozer , I . G . ; and Harrison , Tyler . Bro . John Hammond was a visitor . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken upon behalf of Bro . Briggs , P . M ., & c , and it proving to be unanimous he was dul y advanced . Bro . Sanders was elected W . M . ; VV . Taylor , Treasurer ; and Harrison , Tyler , for the ensuing year . A iewtT having been unanimously voted to W . Bro .

W . W . Wiggmton , P . G . S . of W ., & c , the founder and first W . M . of thelodge , and a letter of sympathy ordered to be forwarded to Bro . W . 'Taylor , who was absent in consequence of the serious illness of his wife . The lodge was duly closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent collation , ably presided over by Bro . VV . Hammond , P . M . The usual toasts followed . Bros . Thrupp and Walls replied upon behalf of the Grand Officers . "

The toast of " The W . M . " was warmly proposed by Bro . Thrupp , in which he expressed a hope that Bro Hopwood would soon be restored to his accustomed good health . Bro . Hammond having replied upon behalf of the absent W . M ., then gave " The Advancee . " Bro . Briggs in response stated that he had been highly impressed with the

ceremony of his advancement , and he hoped in time not only to be better acquainted with the highly interesting and instructive Degree of a M . M . M . but to preside over the destinies of his mother lodge . " The Officers , " coupled with the name of Bro . Sanders , W . M . elect , terminated the proceedings , which were throughout highly successful .

MOUNT CALVARY CHAPTER ( No . 3 ) . — A convocation of this chapter was held at the Masonic Hall , Golden-square , on the nth inst . Among those present were Bros , the Rev . Dr . Ace , D . D ., 31 ° , M . W . S . ; F . Cullier , 30 , H . P . ; A . Williams , 30 , ist ' General ; T . C . Walls , end General ; F . W . Driver , G . M . ; C . VV . Tay-Ieur , Raphael ; W . , were duly " perfected . " Previously to the chapter being closed , a resolution was unanimously passed that a Past Sovereign's jewel should be presented to each of the subscribing P . M . W . S . ' s of the chapter . The banquet was served at the Cafe Royal , Regent-street . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts were proposed . In giving "The Supreme Council , " the M . W . S . congratulated the chapter upon its being favoured

with the presence that day of 111 . Bro . Sandeman . They were all aware of the great interest the Grand Secretary ^ General took in the well-being of the Rose Croix Degree ; and what an excellent worker he was in all the ceremonies appertaining' to the Ancient . and Accepted Rite . ( Hear . ) This toast having been warmly received , the recipient ot the honour made a most fluent and exhaustive -speech , in which he expressed the great gratification it had afforded

him in being present that day at their meeting . He said that the members of the Mount Calvary Encampment had reason to be proud of their prosperous and distinguished chapter , more especially as it was one of the oldest in the Order . In conclusion he said that he had enjoyed himself so thoroughly that he should look forward with pleasure to time when he should meet them again . " The Health of the M . W . S . " was proposed by 111 . Bro . Paas , and this toast

having been duly honoured , Bro . Dr . 'Ace briefly acknowledged the compliment , and then gave "The Newlv-Perfected Brethren . " Bros . Poore and Basnett having replied , "The Past Most Wise Sovereign" was then given , and Bros . R . Stewart and D . M . Dewar having said a few words in response , the proceedings terminated . Some very excellent instrumental and vocal music was given by Bros . Lott , Pigache , and C Driver .

METROPOLITAN COLLEGE . —The quarterly convocation of this college was held at the Freemasons ' Tavern , Great Queen-street , W . C ., on Thursday , October 13 th . The chair was taken by the Supreme Magus , Frater Woodman , the vice-chair by Frater Entwistle , Chief Adept of Lancashire . The R . W . Frater H . G . Buss was installed in the chair of the college in due form by the Supreme Magus , after which Bro . G . Francis Legg , proposed by

Frater Major Penrose Dunbar , was admitted to the Grade of Zelator in due form . The chairs of the Antients were filled by Fraters D . M . Dewar , j . L . Thomas , G . A . Rooks , and E . Thiellay . Among those present were Fraters C . E . Peek , Secretary-General of the Order , and Chief Adept Cambridge , Frater Major Penrose Dunbar . 'Fratres T .

Massa , T . C . Walls , VV . Wynn-Westcott , J . Collinson , and VV . Dodd took the other offices , John Gilbert acting as Acolyte . The convocation being closed the Fratres adjourned tojtheir customary banquet . Before the meeting of the college there was a High Council meeting at which some important business was transacted , especially with regard to the northern colleges .

Daring Burglary At Bro. Sir W. W. Burrell's, P.G.M. Sussex.

DARING BURGLARY AT BRO . SIR W . W . BURRELL'S , P . G . M . SUSSEX .

An audacious burglary was committed at West Grinstead , Park House , the seat of Bro . Sir W . VV . Burrell , M . P ., P . G . M . Sussex , on Friday night , the iSth inst . The entry was effected by the burglars by forcing the sash of a window two stories from the base , and which opened into Bro . Sir Walter's dressing-room in the east front of the house . Among the valuables missing were found to be a large diamond and ruby gold pin , one Masonic gold pin , a Masonh ; set of gold studs and links , one emerald and pearl stud , one set of ruby and diamond studs ,

one silver snuffbox with crest , one pair of gold eyeglasses , and fourpence in coppers . In their hurry ( being probably disturbed by the servants ) the thieves overlooked a dressing-case with silver fittings and a large gold horseshoe pin lying on the table . The value of the missing articles have been roughly estimated at £ 50 .

ISLINGTON LODGE ( No . 1471 ) . —About thirty members of the above lodge of instruction met _ at the Moorgate Tavern , on Tuesday evening , the 15 th inst , to hold the annual supper of the lodge , under the presidency of Bro . J . L . Mather , P . P . G . D . C Herts , the Preceptor . On the cloth being withdrawn , the usual loyal toasts were given by the Chairman and duly responded to . Bro . Binckes ,

the Secretary of the Boys' School , replying to the toast of "The Charities , " made an eloquent appeal on their behalf , observing that from the frequency of his utterances on this subject a great deal of ingenuity would be required on his part to say anything new . He could only reiterate what he had so often said before , and lay the claims of the several

Charities before the brethren for support with all the _ earnestness he could display , asking those who had assisted to continue their efforts in the cause , and those who had not yet contributed to give the matter their earnest consideration . Bro . Bincke ' s remarks were listened to with much attention by the brethren present .

the ensuing year , the revised bye-laws were to be discussed , and other business had to be transacted which required great tact . 'This was all done to the greatest satisfaction of all present . The Secretary was ordered to get the revised bye-laws printed and distributed to the members

Institution for the aged people , on this evening instituted a ballot association for the purpose of enabling members of this lodge to become Life Subscribers or Life Governors of either of the Masonic Charities by weekly payment of one shilling , a ballot to take place as soon as £ 5 5 s . is subscribed . This ending the business , lodge was closed in due form and adjourned .

E _ . of the chapter previous to its somewhat decay , in a very impressive speech , presented the old minute and other books belonging to the chapter , which had been in his father ' s possession since they were committed to his care ; and the same ivere graciously accepted .

A vote of thanks was then passed to Comp . Stanley for his kind gift and expressions . The companions then adjourned to the bar . queting-room , where an excellent supper had been prepared , at the conclusion of which the usual Royal Arch , loyal , and Masonic toasts were given and duly acknowledged . Clayton's , Duke ' s Head , 79 , Whitechapel-road , E ., held its usual meeting on Monday evening , the 21 st inst ., commencing at seven o ' clock p . m . 'The were present Comps . T . J . The chapter having been opened , omp . Macdonald worked the ceremony of exaltation , Comp . Robson being candidate . The very able manner in which the entire work is done by all the companions is a very enjoyable feature at this chapter of instruction , and must be witnessed to be appreciated . Chapter was closed in due form , and adjourned until the first Monday in December . There will not be a meeting here next Monday in consequence of several of the companions having undertaken to work Sections at the Tredegar Lodge on the 2 Sth inst .

ceremony of his advancement , and he hoped in time not only to be better acquainted with the highly interesting and instructive Degree of a M . M . They were all aware of the great interest the Grand Secretary ^ General took in the well-being of the Rose Croix Degree ; and what an excellent worker he was in all the ceremonies appertaining' to the Ancient . and Accepted Rite . ( Hear . ) This toast having been warmly received , the recipient ot the honour made a most fluent and exhaustive -speech , in which he expressed the great gratification it had afforded

him in being present that day at their meeting . He said that the members of the Mount Calvary Encampment had reason to be proud of their prosperous and distinguished chapter , more especially as it was one of the oldest in the Order . In conclusion he said that he had enjoyed himself so thoroughly that he should look forward with pleasure to time when he should meet them again . " The Health of the M . W . S . " was proposed by 111 . Bro . Paas , and this toast

having been duly honoured , Bro . Dr . 'Ace briefly acknowledged the compliment , and then gave "The Newlv-Perfected Brethren . " Bros . Poore and Basnett having replied , "The Past Most Wise Sovereign" was then given , and Bros . R . Stewart and D . M . Dewar having said a few words in response , the proceedings terminated . METROPOLITAN COLLEGE . —The quarterly convocation of this college was held at the Freemasons ' Tavern , Great Queen-street , W . C ., on Thursday , October 13 th . The chair was taken by the Supreme Magus , Frater Woodman , the vice-chair by Frater Entwistle , Chief Adept of Lancashire . The R . W . Frater H . G . Buss was installed in the chair of the college in due form by the Supreme Magus , after which Bro . G . Francis Legg , proposed by

Frater Major Penrose Dunbar , was admitted to the Grade of Zelator in due form . The chairs of the Antients were filled by Fraters D . M . Dewar , j . L . Thomas , G . A . Rooks , and E . Thiellay . Among those present were Fraters C . E . Peek , Secretary-General of the Order , and Chief Adept Cambridge , Frater Major Penrose Dunbar . 'Fratres T .

The convocation being closed the Fratres adjourned tojtheir customary banquet . DARING BURGLARY AT BRO . SIR W . W . BURRELL'S , P . G . M . SUSSEX .

An audacious burglary was committed at West Grinstead , Park House , the seat of Bro . Sir W . VV . Burrell , M . P ., P . G . M . Sussex , on Friday night , the iSth inst . The entry was effected by the burglars by forcing the sash of a window two stories from the base , and which opened into Bro . Sir Walter's dressing-room in the east front of the house . Among the valuables missing were found to be a large diamond and ruby gold pin , one Masonic gold pin , a Masonh ; set of gold studs and links , one emerald and pearl stud , one set of ruby and diamond studs ,

one silver snuffbox with crest , one pair of gold eyeglasses , and fourpence in coppers . In their hurry ( being probably disturbed by the servants ) the thieves overlooked a dressing-case with silver fittings and a large gold horseshoe pin lying on the table . The value of the missing articles have been roughly estimated at £ 50 .
