The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . During the evening a good programme of music was rendered by Bros . Merton Clark , VV . Goldstein , T . H . Roberts . W . G . Brusey passed to the Second Degree , both ceremonies being performed in a manner highly creditable to the W . M . A ballot was then taken for Mr . William Carlisle , which having proved unanimous he was initiated into the mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry in a most impressive manner , the beautiful ritual being rendered in a style which

appeared to make a great impiession on the candidate . A letter was read from Mrs . Cohen announcing the death of Bro , Cohen , a member of the lodge , upon which it was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that the Secretary be instructed to send her a letter of condolence on the death of her hushand .

All Masonic business being ended , the brethren adjourned to an elegant banquet , served in the Princes Room , under the personal superintendence of Bro . Bertini . After the banquet the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed by the VV . M ., and received by the brethren in their usual hearty manner . Bro . E . Jacobs , in rising to propose "The Health of the

VV . M . " said , seeing him in that position , they would ] all know that it was for the purpose of proposing the health of their W . M ., whom they all so highly esteemed . . Their VV . M . was most painstaking in all he undertook , and performed his duties both in the lodge and out of it with a zeal and

assiduity that deserved the highest praise . They all knew that he must have worked very hard to gain his present position and to undertake the duties incident to the office , and he trusted that those that followed him would do the same , and fill the chair with equal grace . He gave them the health of their W . M .

The VV . M ,, in reply , thanked the brethren for the very kind way in which they had received the toast . He fully appreciated their kindness , and trusted that he might be spared to do all that was required of him . He was very pleased to see Bro . Jacobs there , as it was not often they had the pleasure of seeing him , and he appreciated his kindness in being there to support him . He again thanked the brethren for the very hearty manner in which they had drunk his health .

The toast of " The Initiate " was proposed by the VV . M ., who said he had entered on a career which he trusted he would pursue with credit to the lodge in which he had been initiated , and honour to himself . If he looked on his left he would see those who had passed honourably through the various offices , and whose position should act as an incentive to him to emulate their example . He trusted that the recent

ceremony had made a lasting impression on him , and would stimulate him to make himself master of their beautiful ritual . Bro . W . Carlisle , the initiate , in ' reply , thanked the W . M . for the very kind way in which he had spoken of him , and assured him that it had long been his wish to be a Freemason . That wish was now realised with an amount

of satisfaction he could scarcely express . He would do all in his power to merit the trust they had reposed in him . The W . M ., in proposing "The Health of the Visitors , " said it was always a pleasure to the Covent Garden Lodge to see visitors around their table , and long might it continue . One of their most cherished attributes was a feeling of hospitality , which he trusted . might never be found wanting in their members .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . VV . Smith , in reply , said he had been so long associated with them that he felt as much at home as in his own lodge . On looking around at their Past Masters , Secretary , and other officers , it was no wonder the lodge was such a success . He was sure that each and every one had done his utmost to bring it to the present flourishing condition in which it now was . He felt deeply grateful for the

opportunity they so constantly afforded him of being amongst them , where he would meet brethren with whom he was associated elsewhere , and where he could for a time cast aside the troubles and cares of the world . He trusted that he should be permitted to meet them on many future occasions . He again thanked them for the very cordial way in which his health had been drunk .

Bro . W . Hancock also replied for the "Visitors . " He thanked the J . W . for his very kind invitation . It was the first time he had the pleasure of attending , but not the first time he had met many ot the brethren whom he saw around the table , as he met them week by week at the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , whose indefatigable Secretary , Bro . G . Reynolds , he had known for many years ,

and to whose kind and courteous manner was in a great measure due its success . He was very pleased to be there that evening to interchange fraternal greetings with the brethren , to unite and cement the bonds of friendship which he trusted would always exist between them . At the time when the Anglo-American Lodge entertained their visitors from America there was a remark that he

heard made that struck him most forcibly , and that was that during the trying times of the late war between the North and South , there was one thing that was never forgotten , and that was the Brotherhood of Masonry . "The Health oE the Past Masters" was next proposed by the W . M ., whom he said were always so willing and courteous that it was a pleasure to ask them to do anything .

He looked forward with a great deal of pleasure to the time when he should have the honour of being numbered amongst them . He asked the brethren to drink their health in a bumper . Bro . Bourne returned his sincere thanks for the hearty manner in which the toast had been received . They were always willing to do the best they could for the welfare of

the lodge . He had only one thing to complain of , and that was he had too much to do . He could not sit down without mentioning the fact that Bro . Stacey , their highly esteemed Organist , had attained his Masonic jubilee , which he believed was an event of rare occurence . Bro . Stacey returned his sincere thanks for the kind words spoken of him . He trusted that he should be spared

for some years longer to be amongst them . He looked back with a great deal of pleasure on the 50 years he had been a member of their ancient Fraternity , and never regretted the step he had taken in becoming . a brother amongst them . The toast of "The Officers of the Lodge" was next given by the W . M ., who said they were as necessary to

the existence of a lodge as the W . M . himself , for without their assistance he could not hold sway . He was grateful for the excellent way ( in which he had been supported by them during his year of ofiice , and hoped that when their turn came to fill the chair they would be equally fortunate . Bro . Bowers Solomon , S . VV ., briefly responded to the toast .

Bro . G . Reynolds , J . VV ., in replying thanked the brethren most sincerely lor the very enthusiastic way in which they had drunk their health . He tried to do his duty in every way , and was pleased to hear that he had given satisfaction . He regretted that he was not able to be with them on the last occasion , but , as they no doubt knew , he was in the country recruiting his health . He had had the

pleasure of introducing two candidates , Bros . Brusey and Carlisle , whom he was sure would reflect credit on the lodge , and become good and useful members . He thanked the VV . M . for the very kind words he had spoken of him , and trusted that when his successor was elected he should be found assisting him with the same zeal as he did their present W . M . He had the best interests of the Covent

Garden Lodge at heart , and would endeavour to do his best in whatever office they might be pleased to put him . The toast was also responded to by Bro . G . H . Reynolds . The pleasure of the evening was increased by the vocal efforts of several brethren . Bro . Bassett much amused and mystified them by an exhibition of his marvellous card tricks .

Noakes , 214 S . The lodge was opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . Bro . Arthur Trow was raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M ., and Bro . Jas .
