James Stevens , P . M ., P . Z ., who is so well-known in tlie Order as a deeply-read authority on all matters of ritual . For just over two hours Bro . Stevens kept the close attention of all . After some general remarks by way of introduction , Bro . Stevens took up the ceremony oi

opening the lodge , and showed how , in his opinion ( whrch he was prepared to back up by reference to old MSS . ) , this should be done . Passing on , then , to tlie initiation of a candidate , which was pretty tally given , a running fire of critical comment was kept up , and the usages of various provinces touched upon . The doings at Bristol were held up as an " awful example" in certain respects , and Leicester working did not escape notice . Tlie object of the lecturer was , however , to show the desirabilty of unrformity in working throughout the Order . The hints thrown out by Bro .

Stevens , especially as to " calling off" and closing lodge , were very valuable , and will afford much food for relhction to those who take a real interest in Masonry and its beautiful ritual . At the close of the address a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Stevens on the motion of Bro . J . Drewett , P . M . 1638 , supported by Bros . G . Moorman , W . M . 16 3 ' n , and W .
