closed , and the companions adjourned to an excellent supper , provided by Comp . Pow , the proprietor , after which t | , e M . E . Z . gave the usual loyal and Royal Arch toasts in a capable manner , which were as loyally received . The M . E . Z . proposed "The Pro G . Z . and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and remarked that ver y recently they had witnessed their excellent working at

the consecration of the chapter . Comp . Hook , P . Z ., next gave the toast of " The M . E . Z . " in terms well worthy of the recipient , at the same time commenting on the admirable manner in which he had carried out his duties that evening , and be felt confident the chapter would be a great success . As in the lodge , so it would be in the chapter ,

reflecting the highest credit . His kind and genial manner endeared him to all who came in contact with him , and he wished him long life , health , and happiness . The toast was drunk with enthusiasm . In reply , the M E . Z . said he was exceedingly grateful and touched by the remarks which had fallen from the [ ather of the lodge and a founder of the chapter , as he was

one of his boys . He felt somewhat nervous for the first time ashehadhad thehonours thrust on so recently , and likewise as he was still suffering from a severe accident . He hoped the next time he should be enabled to work more perfectly , which it was his intention to do as long as he felt he had the kind sympathy and assistance from the companions . He tendered his hearty and grateful thanks . The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of " H . and J ., " stating

that as the office was three in one , and the Principals could not be divided , in presenting that toast he was obliged to include himself . For the time he should not include himself , but he presented the toast knowing that it would be received with acclamation . His colleagues had given their lectures that evening in such an admirable manner , which reflected the highest credit upon them . Not wanting for a word , and being the first time they had ever rehearsed it in chapter , it was truly excellent .

Comp . E . Gauntlett , in reply , stated , as one of this corporate body , his resolve was todo his best , and as the M . E . Z . had performed his duties , so he hoped to succeed him in the same manner . _ He would endeavour to improve upon it next convocation . He heartily thanked all for their kind

expressions . Comp . John Lightfoot , j ., in reply said that , as an atom of the one great head , his desire was to further the interest of the Selwyn Chapter . He hoped to emulate the Second Principal in his working . He wis delighted to support such colleagues , and wished the M . E . Z . every success in his year of office .

The toast of " The Exaltees " was admirably put by the M . E . Z ., and responded to by Comps . L . Eagle , E . Eagle , J . E . Burkmar , H . Hayward , and Dr . Thomas , the latter of whom , in a very highly intellectual speech , thanked the companions for such a hearty reception , and the AI . E . Z . for investing him with a collar . The sublimity of the ritual had made a lasting impression upon him , and was

beyond his power of expression . The toast of "The Visitors" was ably given by the M . E . Z ., and most appropriately responded to by Comps . Vincent and Grummant , acknowledging the terms of praise most cordially .

The toast of "The Officers" was given most commendably and responded to by all pledging to do their utmost for the chapter . The Janitor's toast closed a most enjoyable evening . Some capital harmony was given by Comps . Hook , Vincent , Hobbs , Lightfoot , Alford , and Stone . Comp . J . Evans was the able accompanist .

Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . H . 1 . F . Williams acting as

candidate . The ist Section of the Lecture was worked by the brethren , under the direction of the Secretary , and the 2 nd under the direction of the Preceptor . The W . Al . having risen , Bro . Stafford , the S . W . of the evening , was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing meeting . It was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously that a vote of thanks be tendered to the W . The toast was drunk with enthusiasm . In reply , the M E . Z . said he was exceedingly grateful and touched by the remarks which had fallen from the [ ather of the lodge and a founder of the chapter , as he was

one of his boys . He felt somewhat nervous for the first time ashehadhad thehonours thrust on so recently , and likewise as he was still suffering from a severe accident . He hoped the next time he should be enabled to work more perfectly , which it was his intention to do as long as he felt he had the kind sympathy and assistance from the companions . He tendered his hearty and grateful thanks . The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of " H . and J ., " stating

that as the office was three in one , and the Principals could not be divided , in presenting that toast he was obliged to include himself . For the time he should not include himself , but he presented the toast knowing that it would be received with acclamation . His colleagues had given their lectures that evening in such an admirable manner , which reflected the highest credit upon them . Not wanting for a word , and being the first time they had ever rehearsed it in chapter , it was truly excellent .

Comp . E . Gauntlett , in reply , stated , as one of this corporate body , his resolve was todo his best , and as the M . E . Z . had performed his duties , so he hoped to succeed him in the same manner . _ He would endeavour to improve upon it next convocation . He heartily thanked all for their kind

expressions . Comp . John Lightfoot , j ., in reply said that , as an atom of the one great head , his desire was to further the interest of the Selwyn Chapter . He hoped to emulate the Second Principal in his working . He wis delighted to support such colleagues , and wished the M . E . Z . every success in his year of office .

The toast of " The Exaltees " was admirably put by the M . E . Z ., and responded to by Comps . L . Eagle , E . Eagle , J . E . Burkmar , H . Hayward , and Dr . Thomas , the latter of whom , in a very highly intellectual speech , thanked the companions for such a hearty reception , and the AI . E . Z . for investing him with a collar . The sublimity of the ritual had made a lasting impression upon him , and was

beyond his power of expression . The toast of "The Visitors" was ably given by the M . E . Z ., and most appropriately responded to by Comps . Vincent and Grummant , acknowledging the terms of praise most cordially .

The toast of "The Officers" was given most commendably and responded to by all pledging to do their utmost for the chapter . The Janitor's toast closed a most enjoyable evening .
