i iruae-e on the other they welcomed Bro . Lacoste , the IPM . of ' La France Lodge . Comp . Cutler , in replying , said : M . E . Z ., it would reuire the fire of a Berryer to thank you worthily for the too ' flattering terms in which you have drunk my health , and to tell you how sweet it is to me to find myself in the heart of French chapter . The evening which I spent in the La

France Lodge two years since left me a souvenir ot pride , tempered with wounded self-love . Pride , because it is an honour to see our rites adopted by Frenchmen as their model . Mortification , to see that those foreign brethren throw us into the shade ( as is proved by their admirable president , Comp . St . Clair ) by the good taste , fluency , and Siunitv which adorns their mode of performing Masonic

rites . Here , Most Excellent , we contribute our traditions , yourselvesbring fluency and gracein giving them expression . As in marriage , the husband and wife learn from one another , and seem to improve with years , so it will be with us * we shall be like the carbon points of an electric light , relatively insignificant while apart , we will shine brightly when we are in touch .

Comp . Lacoste also replied , and said that he was greatly impressed with the ceremony , and very pleased to see the success attained by the French chapter . The M . E . Z . then proposed " The Health of the Past Principals , " mentioning that all the companions knew their worth , and that no Masons had more thoroughly deserved the honours of Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter bestowed

upon them than the two Comps . Monteuuis and Bue , whom they trusted would long be spared to share their honours with the companions of La France Chapter . Comps . Monteuuis and Bue having both replied , the M . E . Z . gave the toast of " The Officers , " which was replied to by Comp . Saillard , P . S ., and the T y ler ' s toast ended one of the most enjoyable Masonic evenings of the

year . All the speeches were given in French , and the translations very inadequately represents the thoroughness of sentiments expressed .
