nised by his appointment in 1897 as Past Prov . J . G . Warden of Middlesex . He is also a joining member of the Farringdon Without Lodge , No . 1 74 S , a founder , a :. d the first W . M ., of the Streatham Lodge , No . 2729 , in 1898 , and last year was a founder of the St . Bride Lodge , No . 2817 . He was exalted in the Royal Hanover Lodge , No . 1777 . on the 15 th August , 1892 , and installed M . E . Z . of Farringdon Without Chapter , No . 1745 , on the 30 th June of last year . But his

grandest work has been , as Was that of his father before him , in connection with our three great Charitable Institutions , of all of which he is a Patron , and for which he has served in all as many as 36 Stewardships . At the Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge in December last he was one of two candidates nominated for the office of Grand Treasurer for the year 1901 . 2 , and at the meeting last month had the satisfaction of being returned by a substantial majority of votes .

DEPUTY GRAND REGISTRAR . Bro . J V . VESEY FITZGERALD , K . C , was initiated in the Lodge of Rectitude , No . 502 , Rugby , in 1889 , and in 1896 was elected and installed its W . M ,, his services being rewarded by his appointment as Prov . J . G . Warden of Warwick , shire . In 18 9 8 he became a founder and was installed as the first W . M . of the

Midland and Oxford Bar Lodge , No . 2716 . He is likewise a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted as such in the Chapter of Rectitude , No . 502 , Rugby , in 1890 , and in due course was installed in the chair of First Principal Z . for the year 1897-8 . In addition , he is a Life Governor of both our Schools , and has served once as Festival Steward for each of them .

SENIOR GRAND DEACONS . Bro . E . A . PONTIFEX was initiated in the Middlesex Lodge , No . 143 , and was installed in the W . Master ' s chair in 1881 . In 188 7 he resigned his membership , but three years later was elected as a rejoining member , and , as far as ve are able to say , is still on the roll . lie is also a member and P . M . of the Lodge of Antiquity , No . 2 , which in 1880 he was nominated to represent on the

Board of G . Stewards , and of the Earl of Sussex Lodge , No . 2201 , Brighton , while in Royal Arch Masonry he is a P . Z . of Mount Moriah , No . 143 . He is a Mark Master Mason , number of the Carnarvon Lodge , No . 7 , and has been perftcted Rose Croix , while as regards our Institutions he has qualified as Vice-President of both Schools and Life Governor of the Benevolent Institution , and has served in all four Stewardships , of which two were in respect of the Boys ' Sihool and one for each of the other Charities .

Bro . FRANCIS WOODHOUSE BRAINE , Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons , is a brother of distinction of many years' standing , having been initiated in the St . George and Corner Stone Lodge , No . 5 , as far back as the 1 st January , 1874 . In 1882 he was chosen to fill the chair as W . M ., and represented it on the Board of Grand Stewards . In the same year he took a leading part in the foundation of the Earl of Mornington Lodge , No . 2000 , and two years later

had the honour ot being elected to preside over it as W . M . He is also a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted in the St . George ' s Chapter , No . 5 , in 18 77 , and has twice been elected M . E . Z ., namely , in 1884 , and again in 18 9 6 ; while at the present time he is Z . elect of the Cavendish Chapter , No . 2620 , in the foundation of which last year he had the satisfaction of bearing a prominent part . He is a Life Governor of the Girls' and Benevolent Institutions , and has given his services as Steward for both those Charities .

Bro . Lieut .-Col . CHAS . ROBERT LYNE , son , and for several years the Deputy , of Bro . Col . Charles Lyne , who has filled the office of Prov . Grand Master of Monmouthshire for upwards of 30 years , was initiated in the Silurian Lodge , No . 471 , Newport , in 1872 , and in 1876 was elected and installed its W . M ., and appointed Prov . S . G . W . In 1894 , on the death of Bro . Capt . S . G . Homfray , P . A . G . D . C , our respected brother was appointed by his father to succeed that

eminent and popular Mason as Dep . Prov . G . M . In 18 73 he was exalted a Royal Atch Mason in the Silurian Chapter , No . 471 , and on the 22 nd February , 1895 , was installed First Principal '/ .., while a few months later he was appointed to the chair of Second Principal in Prov . G . Chapter—a position he has continued to fill ever since . He is also a Past M . W . S . of the Ivor-Hael Rose Croix Chapter , No . 34 , is a Life Governor of all three Institutions , and has served in all five Stewardships in their behalf .

JUNIOR GRAND DEACONS . Bro . CHARLES DARHYSHIRB CHEETHAM , who for several years has been one of the most prominent figures in East Lancashire Masonry , and well deserves the honour now conferred upon him , has been a member of our Society for upwards of 20 years , having been initiated in the Alexandra Lodge , No . 993 , Levenshulme , in 1879 , and elected to preside over it as W . M . in 1885 . He has

been thrice awarded Provincial honours , having been made Prov . J . G . Deacon in 1888 and Prov . J . G . W . in 18 95 , while last year he was advanced to the chair of Prov . S . G . Warden , and still occupies it . He is also a member of Unanimity Lodge , No . 287 , Stockport , in the Province of Cheshire . He was exalted in the Chapter of Perseverance in May , 1881 , and in November , 1888 , was installed in the chair of First Principal Z . The following year he was appointed Prov .

G . D . C , and in 18 9 8 Prov . G . Scribe N . Since 18 97 he has been Chairman of the Prov . G . Lodge Charity Committee of East Lancashire , and is in addition Chairman of the Committee of the East Lancashire Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution . He is also a Life Governor of both our Schools , and Patron of the R . M . Benevolent Institution , while as regards Festival Stewardships he has served in that capacity twice for the Girls' and twice for the Boys ' School , and as many as 14 times for the Old People .

Bro . THOMAS TAVLOR , of Staffordshire , to whose exertions the Girls' School is largely indebted for the very liberal contribution it received from his Province when thc Earl of Dartmouth , Prov . G . M ., presided as Chairman , was initiated in the Menturia Lodge , No . 418 , Hanley , in 1865 , and has thus been a member of the Craft for upwards of 35 years . In 18 71 he was installed W . M ., and in 1896 was elided to the chair of the Gordon Lodge , No . 2149 , which some years

pieviously he had helped to found . In 18 9 S he had a hand in organising the Foster Gough Lodge , No . 2706 , which meets in Stafford , and serves to perpetuate the services of the late Bro . Col . A . Foster Gough , a former Prov . G . Master of Staffordshire . In 1872 he was exalted in the Staffordshire Knot Chapter , No . 41 K , ; , nd was installed M . E . Z . in i 83 o . In the Order of the Temple he is the senior member and P . E . P ., and Treasurer of the Godefroi de Bouillon Preceptory ,

No . 42 , Stokt-upon-Trtnt , and in 189 G . 7 was ist Constable ofthe Prov . Priory of Siaffurcshire , Warwickshire , & c ., and is a member of the Vernon Rose Croix Chapter , Birmingham . He is Past President of the Staffordshire Masonic Chanty ANsociation , and a member of the Election Committee . Lastly , he is a Vice-l ' ation ol both Schools and Vice-President of the Benevolent Institution , and has given his services as Steward for one or other of them at some 15 or 16 Festivals ,

Bro . PHILIP A . SCRATCHLEY was initiated in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in 1876 , and , after the manner of so many of its members , joined the Westminster and Keystone Lodge , No . 10 , and in 1887 was installed its W . M . He is also P . Z . of the Westminster and Keystone Chapter , No . 10 ; P . M ., and in

18 S 8 was S . G . D ., in the Mark Degree ; is a Past E . P . of the Oxford and Cam . bridge University Preceptory , No . 128 , of the Order of the Temple ; and Past M . W . S . of the Oxford and Cambridge University Rose Croix Chapter , No . 45 . He has served three Stewardships for the Girls' School and one for the Boys ' School , and is a Life Governor of both those Institutions .

DEPUTY GRAND 'DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . EDWARD ROEHRICH , who has been worthily chosen to fill this office , has been close on 30 years a member of our Society and in that time has rendered valuable service both to lodge and chapter and to our Institutions . He was initiated in Mount Moriah Lodge , No . 34 , on the 25 th January , 1872 , and has at different times bee n elected a joining member of such other well known lodges

as the Drury Lane Lodge , No . 2127 , the Old Masonians Lodge , No . 2700 , the Lodge of Verity , No . 2739 , the Jubilee Masters Lodge , No . 2712 , and the L ' Entente Cordiale Lodge , No . 2796 , and in more than one case has he acted as founder . On the 4 th October , 1899 , he was installed W . M . of Lodge Verity , and last year as W . M . of the Old Masonians , No . 2700 , on the 27 th April and on the 3 rd December of the L'Entente Cotdiale . He was exalted in the United Pilgrims

Chapter on the 17 th February , 1881 , and about two months since was installed First Principal Z . of United Prudence Chapter , No . 12 . He is likewise a member of the Bard of Avon Chapter of Rose Croix , No . 44 , but he is best known for his generous support of our Institutions , having qualified as a Patron of all three and having served four Stewardships for the Boys' School and three for each ofthe other Charities .

ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTORS OF CEREMONIES . Bro . WILLIAM ALIIERT HART , District Superintendent of the Greit Western Railway between Paddington , who in his official capacity has been frequently brought into contact with his Majesty , has taen a Mason for the last quarter of a century . He was initiated in the Windsor Castle Lodge , No . 771 , in 1876 . In

18 91 , he joined the Dens Lodge , No . 2228 , Cookham Dene , and was installed its W . M . in 18 97 . In 1899 , he was appointed Prov . G . Supt of Works , Berkshire , and in the course ofthe same year was exalted to the Royal Arch in the Herschell Chapter , No , 18 94 , Slough . He is also a Mark Master Mason , and has been perfected Rose Croix , and taken the 30 ' in the A . and A . Rite . Lastly , he is a Life Governor of our three Institutions , and has served one Stewardship for each .

Bro . J STOCKER , a zealous and prominent member of the Craft in Devonshire , was initiated in St . John the Baptist Lodge , No . 39 , Exeter , on the 28 th March , 1872 , and five years later had the honour of being placed 'in the chair of W . M . He is also an honorary member of several lodges in the Province , and after having been elected Prov . G . Treasurer in 1881 , and appointed Prov . S . G . W . in 1890 , he was chosen in 1803 to fill , and has ever since held , the onerous and responsible office of Prov . G . Secretary . As a Royal Arch Ma ; on

he has won similar distinction . He was exalted in the St . George ' s Chapter , No . 112 , Exeter , in 1893 , was installed M . E . Z . in 1 S 82 , and the following year was honoured with the appointment of Prov . ist G . A . S . Since 18 9 6 he has held the post of Prov . G . S . E ., and in 18 97 was appointed A . G . D . C . in Supreme Grand Chapter . Bro . Stocker is also a member of other branches of Masonry , and has qualified as a Life Governor of the Boys' and Benevolent Institutions , and as Life Subscriber of the Girls' School , and has served as Festival Steward for " Our Beys . "

Bro . WILLIAM ALFRED DAWSON first saw Masonic light in the Loyal Lodge of Industry , No . 421 , South Molton , but his services to the Craft have been rendered for the most part in or near by London . Thus in 1878 he helped to found the Lodge of Progress , No . 1768 , and was installed as its first W . M ., while in 1882 he took a similarly prominent part in connection with the Eastes Lodge , No . 1965 , Bromley , Kent , which was warranted in that year . He was a member

of the Board of General Purposes from 1885 to 188 7 , and has been connected with the Emulation Lodge of Improvement since 18 7 6 . He was exalted in the Burdett Chapter , No . 1293 , Hampton Court , in 1872 , and having joined the Royal Union Chapter , was installed its M . E . Z . in 1883 , his services in this capacity being recognised by his appointment as Prov . G . Scribe N . Middlesex in the same year . In 1885 he

was installed First Principal of the Burdett Chapter , and has twice since then been chosen to preside over a chapter—in 18 9 8 as M . E . Z . of the Royal York Chapter of Perseverance , and in 18 99 as the M . E . Z . of La France Chapter , No . 2060 . He has rendered' further service to this branch of Masonry as a member of Grand Chapter Committee from 18 S 6 to 1891 , while in respect of our Institutions he has made himself a Life Governor of all of them , having , in addition , done duty as Festival Steward twice for the Girls' School , once for the Boys' School , and once for the Benevolent Institution .

GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . CHARLES MILLS MOLONY , C . B ., late of the Royal Artillery , was initiated in the St . Mary Abbott's Lodge , No . 1794 , on the gth January , 1890 , and has since been elected a joining member , in 1897 , of the F . lthorne and Middlesex Lodge , No . 2094 , and , in 1898 . of the Ordnance Lodge , No . 2399 . He has twice

occupied the Master ' s chair , having been installed in that of his mother lodge on the 7 th January , 18 9 8 , and in that of No . 2094 On the 5 th October of the following year . He was exalted in the Westminster and Keystone Chapter , No . 10 , in June , 1894 , and at the present time is the occupant of the Third Principal's chair . He has qualified as a Life Governor of both our Scholastic Institutions , and has served one Stewardship for each of them .

DEPUTY GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . Lieut .-Col . GEORGE W . DIXON has had a long and varied Masonic career , having been initiated in the Etonian Lodge , No . 209 , Windsor , on the 15 th June , 1871 . In 18 74 he was elected and installed W . M ., a position he has since occupied in two other lodges , namely , in 1878 , in the Dalhousie Lodge , No . 865 , which he joined in 1872 ; and in 1881 in the Gostling Murray Lodge . No . 1871 ,

Hounslow , of which the year previous he had been a founder and the first S . W . He has also been elected a joining member , in 1883 , of the Buckingham Lodge , No . 591 , Aylesbury , and in 1891 of the Lome Lodge , No . 1347 , Sutton , in the Province of Surrey . Thus he has been a member of lodges in what are now the four Provinces of Berks , Bucks , Middlesex , and Surrey , as well as in London , and had

his services recognised in 1885 , when the collar of Prov . S . G . W . of the late Province of Berks and Bucks was conferred on him . He has been equally distinguished in the Royal Arch , to which he was exa ' ted in the Windsor Castle Chapter , No . 771 , on ihe 16 th April , 1874 . On the 17 th October , 187 8 , he was installed M . E . Z ., while in 1885 a like honour was conferred on him in the Buckingham Chapter , No . 391 , and , in 18 93 , he became founder

Bro . PHILIP A . SCRATCHLEY was initiated in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in 1876 , and , after the manner of so many of its members , joined the Westminster and Keystone Lodge , No . 10 , and in 1887 was installed its W . M . He is also P . Z . of the Westminster and Keystone Chapter , No . 10 ; P . M ., and in

18 S 8 was S . G . D ., in the Mark Degree ; is a Past E . P . of the Oxford and Cam . bridge University Preceptory , No . 128 , of the Order of the Temple ; and Past M . W . S . of the Oxford and Cambridge University Rose Croix Chapter , No . 45 . He has served three Stewardships for the Girls' School and one for the Boys ' School , and is a Life Governor of both those Institutions .

DEPUTY GRAND 'DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . EDWARD ROEHRICH , who has been worthily chosen to fill this office , has been close on 30 years a member of our Society and in that time has rendered valuable service both to lodge and chapter and to our Institutions . He was initiated in Mount Moriah Lodge , No . 34 , on the 25 th January , 1872 , and has at different times bee n elected a joining member of such other well known lodges

as the Drury Lane Lodge , No . 2127 , the Old Masonians Lodge , No . 2700 , the Lodge of Verity , No . 2739 , the Jubilee Masters Lodge , No . 2712 , and the L ' Entente Cordiale Lodge , No . 2796 , and in more than one case has he acted as founder . On the 4 th October , 1899 , he was installed W . M . of Lodge Verity , and last year as W . M . of the Old Masonians , No . 2700 , on the 27 th April and on the 3 rd December of the L'Entente Cotdiale . He was exalted in the United Pilgrims

Chapter on the 17 th February , 1881 , and about two months since was installed First Principal Z . of United Prudence Chapter , No . 12 . He is likewise a member of the Bard of Avon Chapter of Rose Croix , No . 44 , but he is best known for his generous support of our Institutions , having qualified as a Patron of all three and having served four Stewardships for the Boys' School and three for each ofthe other Charities .

ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTORS OF CEREMONIES . Bro . WILLIAM ALIIERT HART , District Superintendent of the Greit Western Railway between Paddington , who in his official capacity has been frequently brought into contact with his Majesty , has taen a Mason for the last quarter of a century . He was initiated in the Windsor Castle Lodge , No . 771 , in 1876 . In

18 91 , he joined the Dens Lodge , No . 2228 , Cookham Dene , and was installed its W . M . in 18 97 . In 1899 , he was appointed Prov . G . Supt of Works , Berkshire , and in the course ofthe same year was exalted to the Royal Arch in the Herschell Chapter , No , 18 94 , Slough . He is also a Mark Master Mason , and has been perfected Rose Croix , and taken the 30 ' in the A . and A . Rite . Lastly , he is a Life Governor of our three Institutions , and has served one Stewardship for each .

Bro . J STOCKER , a zealous and prominent member of the Craft in Devonshire , was initiated in St . John the Baptist Lodge , No . 39 , Exeter , on the 28 th March , 1872 , and five years later had the honour of being placed 'in the chair of W . M . He is also an honorary member of several lodges in the Province , and after having been elected Prov . G . Treasurer in 1881 , and appointed Prov . S . G . W . in 1890 , he was chosen in 1803 to fill , and has ever since held , the onerous and responsible office of Prov . G . Secretary . As a Royal Arch Ma ; on

he has won similar distinction . He was exalted in the St . George ' s Chapter , No . 112 , Exeter , in 1893 , was installed M . E . Z . in 1 S 82 , and the following year was honoured with the appointment of Prov . ist G . A . S . Since 18 9 6 he has held the post of Prov . G . S . E ., and in 18 97 was appointed A . G . D . C . in Supreme Grand Chapter . Bro . Stocker is also a member of other branches of Masonry , and has qualified as a Life Governor of the Boys' and Benevolent Institutions , and as Life Subscriber of the Girls' School , and has served as Festival Steward for " Our Beys . "

Bro . WILLIAM ALFRED DAWSON first saw Masonic light in the Loyal Lodge of Industry , No . 421 , South Molton , but his services to the Craft have been rendered for the most part in or near by London . Thus in 1878 he helped to found the Lodge of Progress , No . 1768 , and was installed as its first W . M ., while in 1882 he took a similarly prominent part in connection with the Eastes Lodge , No . 1965 , Bromley , Kent , which was warranted in that year . He was a member

of the Board of General Purposes from 1885 to 188 7 , and has been connected with the Emulation Lodge of Improvement since 18 7 6 . He was exalted in the Burdett Chapter , No . 1293 , Hampton Court , in 1872 , and having joined the Royal Union Chapter , was installed its M . E . Z . in 1883 , his services in this capacity being recognised by his appointment as Prov . G . Scribe N . Middlesex in the same year . In 1885 he

was installed First Principal of the Burdett Chapter , and has twice since then been chosen to preside over a chapter—in 18 9 8 as M . E . Z . of the Royal York Chapter of Perseverance , and in 18 99 as the M . E . Z . of La France Chapter , No . 2060 . He has rendered' further service to this branch of Masonry as a member of Grand Chapter Committee from 18 S 6 to 1891 , while in respect of our Institutions he has made himself a Life Governor of all of them , having , in addition , done duty as Festival Steward twice for the Girls' School , once for the Boys' School , and once for the Benevolent Institution .

GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . CHARLES MILLS MOLONY , C . B ., late of the Royal Artillery , was initiated in the St . Mary Abbott's Lodge , No . 1794 , on the gth January , 1890 , and has since been elected a joining member , in 1897 , of the F . lthorne and Middlesex Lodge , No . 2094 , and , in 1898 . of the Ordnance Lodge , No . 2399 . He has twice

occupied the Master ' s chair , having been installed in that of his mother lodge on the 7 th January , 18 9 8 , and in that of No . 2094 On the 5 th October of the following year . He was exalted in the Westminster and Keystone Chapter , No . 10 , in June , 1894 , and at the present time is the occupant of the Third Principal's chair . He has qualified as a Life Governor of both our Scholastic Institutions , and has served one Stewardship for each of them .

DEPUTY GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . Lieut .-Col . GEORGE W . DIXON has had a long and varied Masonic career , having been initiated in the Etonian Lodge , No . 209 , Windsor , on the 15 th June , 1871 . In 18 74 he was elected and installed W . M ., a position he has since occupied in two other lodges , namely , in 1878 , in the Dalhousie Lodge , No . 865 , which he joined in 1872 ; and in 1881 in the Gostling Murray Lodge . No . 1871 ,

Hounslow , of which the year previous he had been a founder and the first S . W . He has also been elected a joining member , in 1883 , of the Buckingham Lodge , No . 591 , Aylesbury , and in 1891 of the Lome Lodge , No . 1347 , Sutton , in the Province of Surrey . Thus he has been a member of lodges in what are now the four Provinces of Berks , Bucks , Middlesex , and Surrey , as well as in London , and had

his services recognised in 1885 , when the collar of Prov . S . G . W . of the late Province of Berks and Bucks was conferred on him . He has been equally distinguished in the Royal Arch , to which he was exa ' ted in the Windsor Castle Chapter , No . 771 , on ihe 16 th April , 1874 . On the 17 th October , 187 8 , he was installed M . E . Z ., while in 1885 a like honour was conferred on him in the Buckingham Chapter , No . 391 , and , in 18 93 , he became founder
