for the benefit of the noble Institution of Freemasonry , and were anxious for its welfare . The lodge was honoured by the presence of Bro . McLeod , P . G . S . B , who was a most highly distinguished member of the Craft , and he coaoled his name with the toast . Bro . McLeod , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . I . B ., in reply , said it was a very high honour to respond tor the Grand Officers . Of Earl Amherst and the Earl of Warwick the Craft
was proud of such two distinguished noblemen . The Pro G . M . was a veteran in the cause of Freemasonry , and had presided over the Province of Kent for at least 40 years ; and also the Dep . G . M . was highly esteemed in the Province of Essex . While the G . M . had such brethren to assist him the cause of Freemasonry must fburish . The rest of the Grand Officers were ever ready to give their assistance and lime to promote the interests of the Craft , and he thanked the brethren of the Selwyn Lod ° -e for their hearty reception of the toast . °
Bro . J . Pointon , I . P . M ., in proposing ths toast of " The W . M ., " said he wis sure it would be received with that enthusiasm it deserved . It gave him extreme pleasure in placing it before the brethren , and would ever be remembered by him , for the brethren had witnessed the excellent work that evening of the W . M . in initiating a brother so soon after his installation . The ceremony had been carried out with m irked ability and
¦ repressiveness . It was indeed to him a great privilege to instal one so worth y as Bro . Marrison , who had so closely followed him in the various officers in the lodge during the past seven or eight years . They were all proud of their W . M ., and felt they had entrusted the management of the lodge to one who would in every way maintain the dignity of the high position to which they had . elected him , and they all wished the W . M a happy and prosperous year of ollice .
In reply Bro . Marrison , VV . M ., said he was indeed proud to occupy the position of Master of his mother lodge , and felt it was an honour to succeed such a splendid Mason as Bro . Pointon , I . P . M . He said he would do all in his p 3 wer to further the interests of the Selwyn Lodge . It would be difficult for him to shine brightly at the banquettable , but in the work , whatever was brought forward in good men and true , he would carry out the duties in the same admirable manner as his predecessors had done . The VV . M . next presented the toast of "The Installing Master , " and remarked that all would
agree that the installation ceremony had never been carried out in a more impressive manner . The I . P . M . had preceded him in the various offices of the lodge and the W . M . was indeed proud to think that Bro . Pointon had perform : d the office of installation , a ceremony he should long remember . In recognition of his splendid service to the lodge during the past year , the W . M . had the pleasing duty to present the Past Master ' s jewel and collar and jewel , with the earnest hope ot all the brethren that the I . P . M . would have good health and live long to wear the same in the Selwyn Lodge , and enjoy the same happy associations in the future as in the past .
In reply , Bro . J . Pointon , I . P . M ., thanked the W . M . for the kind and affectionate manner the toast had been proposed , and also the brethren for their hearty reception of the same . He repeated what he had many times told them before that he most heartily thanked them for their many kindnesses always shown him , and also for the splendid jewel which he should prize among his many treasures . It would remind him of the many happy hours spent in the lodge and be a token of their good feelings towards him which would never be forgotten . He made a very touching appeal to the brethren on
behalf of Bro . Campbell , who was struck down with paralysis , and said it was the bounden duty ot all the Selwyn brethren and friends to support him to their utmost , rie hoped the brethren would use strenuous efforts tosecure his election to the Benevolent Institution next month . He ventured to hope that all would lend a helping hand to so worthy a brother , who had performed his duty as a man and Mason tor nearly 20 years . He again congratulated the W . M . upon his position , and also expressed his gratitude for the splendid reception given him as Installing Master .
_ Ihe W . M , next gave the toast of "Tne Initiate" in most cordial terms . He said he had known him fot many years , and was confident he would prove an excellent Mason .
Bro . Newman most ably responded . The toast of "The Visitors " was most cordially proposed by the W . M ., and had a most hearty reception . The toast was effectively and fully responded to by Bros . H . G . Taylor , G . G . May J . Rutter , E . Witherby , and F . Flood , all congratulating the W . M . upon his position ! and the splendid work he had exhibited in the ludge . 'The toast of " The Masonic Charities " was most ably presented by the W . M , who said the brethren of the Selwyn Lodge had done their duty nobly , and had sent up t ' o the noble Institutions more than 1000 guineas .
The toast was most forcibly responded to by Bro . McLeod , who among his many remarks paid a high compliment to the Benevolent and Girls' Institutions , and also enlarged on the splendid work and the results attained in the Boys' School , which had been circulated in the report issued with the votes . He appealed most eloquently on behalf of the Boys' institution , and hoped the brethren would enable the Committee to carry out their noble work with greater results . The toasts of " The Past Masters , " "The Treasurer and Secretary , " and " The Officers of the Lodge" were presented in terms of high eulogium , and duly responded to . The Tyler ' s toast closed a very successful and happy meeting .
An excellent programme of music was arranged , the artistes being Madame Lovenez ( loudly encored ) , Miss Maud Howarth ( also well received ) , and Bros . Otto Dene and Arthur Melrose ( also loudly encored ) . Bro . Blewett Faull very ably accompanied .

was proud of such two distinguished noblemen . The Pro G . M . was a veteran in the cause of Freemasonry , and had presided over the Province of Kent for at least 40 years ; and also the Dep . G . M . was highly esteemed in the Province of Essex .
