The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , the ballot was taken for Messrs . J . H . Lloyd and H . S . Dudman , and proving unanimous , they were duly initiated into Masonry . Bro . Ross was then raised , and the lodge was closed . The dinner having been discussed , the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts were honoured , and then

Bro . Webber said that for the last time the VV . M . had placed the gavel in his hands for a purpose with which they were all acquainted . In proposing to them the toast of their esteemed VV . M ., he must ask them to remember his excellent working , and earnest desire to provide for the comfort of the brethren during his year of office , now fast drawing to a close , and when they considered that he , Bro .

Southgate , was hard at work learning the instal ' ation ceremony , they would look over any delinquencies that night . He had worked the ceremonies throughout lhe year in a most masterly manner , and he asked them to show their appreciation of him by drinking his health for the last time with enthusiasm . Bro . Southgate would admit that his working that night was not exactly up to the Nelson standard , but there were

three causes for it , the first was , as Bro . Webber had said , he was working up for the installation ceremony , the second was that he hadthe previous night attended at the installation of an old friend at the Anglo-American Lodge , and the third was that he had not attended the lodge of instruction at its last meeting , for he could assure them that unless a constant attention to the ritual was kept up there was sure to come a time when the want of that attention would be in

evidence . However , he thanked them one and all f or their great kindness to him during his year of office , and should ever remember it with gratification and pride . Bro . McCollough , in responding to a hearty reception of the toast of "The W . M . elect , " said that when years ago both Bro . Hobson , P . M ., and Bro . Butt , P . M ., offered him office he declined it because he felt that he could not spare the

necessary time to attend to it , r . eveitheless he could assure them that he always loved Masonry , and had it at heart , and when Bro . Sanderson , P . M ., offered him office he accepted it , because he felt that the time had come when he could without detriment to himself or connections undertake the duties and responsibilities of office . He especially wished to thank Bro . Warren , P . M ., for the instruction he had given him , and the

brethren for their kindness in electinghim as their Master . As the immortal had said— "There is a flood in the affairs of man , " & c Well , he had taken the tide of his Masonic career at the flood , and nothing should be wanting on his part to ensure that it led on that good fortune which was expressed by them to every Master of the lodge who did his duty .. He

thanked them . Bros . Moore , Sanders , Capt . Hearn , Turvey , and Horsley responded for " The Visitors . " "The Candidates , " "The Past Masters , " and the Tyler ' s toast were also honoured , and then the brethren dispersed , after a happy and memorable meeting .
