Reports Of Masonic Meetings.
The toast of "The Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " led the W . Master to allude to one Grand office svhich svas nosv vacant , that of the Pro Grand Master , and referring to the late Earl of Carnarvon , svho for more than 15 years filled it , he said the Craft could ill afford to lose that brother , svhose talents were given to the svorld at large , as svell as to
1 ' reemasonry . The late Earl of Carnarvon vvas one whose example they vvould all do well to follosv . Bro . the Rev . J . Studholme Brosvnrigg * , P . G . C , in responding to the toast , said he quite endorsed every svord the VV . M . had said as to the gloom vvhich overshadowed that toast _ by the death of the Pro Grand Master . There svas certainly no one in England to svhom Masonry owed
so much as to the late Pro Grand Master . For a quarter of a century he had knosvn him , and a quarter of a century ago Masonry svas a different thing to what it svas nosv . During that time there had been a great heightening in the tone of Masonry all over the country , and that . had happened through the highly cultured mind of the late Pro Grand Master . At the installation of the Prince of VVales he set
an example to Masons , and he never did anything in all his Masonic career svhich did not give a tone to Masonry . The brethren osved him a great debt for svhat it vvas that day , and they all felt they had a great weight of sorrosv on them on account of his death . He vvould not say anything else in response to that toast , further than to say the Grand Officers returned their best thanks .
Bro . Jakins , I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " svith svhom he had had the pleasure of working in that lodge , and he looked forsvard svith pleasure to the year of harmony svhich he knew the brethren svould have under his rule . When Bro . Cox should leave the chair he was certain that the lodge vvould be in even a more flourishing state than it now happily vvas .
The Worshipful Master , responding , said it svas a source of great gratification to him to be placed in the proud position he then occupied , and he trusted that his occupancy of that position svould be of benefit to the Duke of Cornsvall Lodge . He hoped the lodge svould be a great success . For that end he relied on the co-operation and assistance of the ofiicers and past officers , and he svould do his best to
encourage them . The AV . M ., in giving "The Installing Master , Bro . Marcus , " said the Dukeof Cornsvall Lodge svas very proud of his work , and he hoped Bro . Marcus vvould be vvith them many years to assist them . He had taken a great journey this year , but they had never forgotten Bro . Marcus . Bro . Marcus , P . M ., in replying , said unfortunately for
the lodge he had had to take a great journey to Australia , but fortunately it had ended very successfully , and he vvas now pleased to be vvith the brethren that night to render any assistance he could . At any time if they called upon him he vvould all he could for them . The furore svith vvhich his name vvas received took away his breath , but ever since he had been a member of the Duke of Cornsvall Lodge he
found every Masonic virtue existed in it . When he vvas going to Australia the Duke of Cornsvall Lodge wished him God-speed . On many occasions when he vvas asvay he thought of the brethren , and vvhen he came back he found the same good feeling among them as he had alsvays experienced vvhen vvith them . In giving the toast of "The Initiates , " the W . M . said he
hoped the nesvly-made brethren vvould never forget the ceremonies they had gone through , and never regret the step they had taken . The more they learned of Freemasonry the more they would like it , and he hoped they svould always carry out in their every-day life the principles they had learned that evening . Bros . Bladon , Turner , Thomas , and Jacobs severally responded .
The toast of " The Visitors " vvas responded to by Bros . Wood , Judd , McLeod , and Mason . The W . M ., in giving "The Masonic Charities , " said he vvas going up as Steward for the Boys' School . During the last two years the Duke of Cornwall Lodge had contributed £ 13 ° or ^ 140 to the Charities , vvhich vvere doing a great work . What greater pleasure could the brethren have when they were enjoying themselves than to think they vvere assisting those vvho vvere in worse circumstances than themselves .
Bro . J . M . McLeod , P . M ., Sec . of the Boys' School , replied , and said his task vvas anything but a light one , as he vvas succeeding in the office a man vvho for 30 years had over and over again , in forcible , strong , and eloquent terms , spoken on behalf of that Institution . It had lately gone through a serious trial , and he . wished he could say it had come out of it svith good grace . He trusted that the light
svhich had been throsvn upon it vvould do great good to the Order and to the Institution . The management was now gone into vvith a good , thorough clean hand , determined to sweep asvay all abuses . He svas sure it svould meet vvith the approbation , sympathy , and support of the brethren . He asked the brethren to support their Master ' s Stewardship , and so assist the svork of reform .
Bro . Mason also replied . Bro . Brooke , P . M ., replying to the toast of " The Past Masters , " said , though he had the misfortune to reside in Vienna , he came every year to the installation of the W . M . of the Duke of Cornwall Lodge , and he had great pleasure in finding himself once more among the brethren . He expressed his sorrow for the loss of tsvo of the founders
, but he rejoiced that the lodge svas constantly being recruited vvith newblood . He welcomed Bro . Marcus on his return from his journey round the world . He thanked Bro . Jakins for his personal work for the lodge . Bro . Jakins had had great anxiety on behalf of the lodge , but it had turned out a great financial success . It afforded him and the other Past Masters great pleasure and satisfaction to see four
gentlemen initiated that evening , vvho , he svas sure , svould be a great acquisition to the lodge . He only hoped they vvould follosv the steps of those vvho had gone before them . Bros . Corpe , P . M ., Treas ., and Dewsnap , P . M ., Sec , responded to the toast of " The Treasurer and Secretary , " Bros . Bladon , Culver , and other officers acknowledged the toast of "The Officers , " and Bro . Bosvler gave the Tyler ' s toast , after svhich the brethren separated .

In the unavoidable absence at the earlier period of the evening of the AV . M ., Bro . M . J . Jessop , the lodge was opened by Bro . Charles Frederick Hogard , P . G . Std . Br ., svhen the dispensation of the M . W . Grand Master svas read authorising the lodge to hold its meeting on Wednesday , the 17 th inst ., the third Monday being a Jesvish holiday , after vvhich the minutes of the last regular lodge

The report of the Audit Committee and the report of the Committee of the Benevolent Fund of the lodge vvere received and _ adopted , the latter showing * a substantial balance of over £ 90 to the good . The ballot svas taken for the follosving brethren , svhodesired to join the lodge : Bros . Barnett I . Barnato , member of the Legislative Assembly , Cape Colony , Joppa Lodge , No . 1 S 8 , and

Lesvis and Solomon Abrahams , the ceremony being most ably performed in his well-known style , and including the traditional history and

Jessop administered the obligation . In due course the Board of Installed Masters vvas opened ( on this occasion essentially a large and representative body ) , and the new VV . Jessop then gave the addresses in masterly fashion , and took his seat on the left of the Worshipful Master . Bro . Acsvorth ' s first duty vvas indeed a pleasant one ; the lodge had procured for their popular outgoing Master a chaste and handsome jesvel , svhile Bro . H . I . Barnato had supplemented their gift with
a splendid diamond for the centre . Bro . Acsvorth in placing it on Bro . Jessop's breast said that no one present svas better able to judge of its merits than the recipient , but he spoke the sentiments of the brethren svhen he desired Bro . Jessop to accept it , not for its intrinsic value only , but as expressing their appreciation of the zeal and assiduity he had displayed in the svelfare of the lodge since its inception some
tsvo and a quarter years since . The jesvel , svhich svas gracefully acknosvledged by Bro . Jessop , bears the following inscription : — " Presented to Wor . Bro . M . J . Jessop , by the brethren of the Barnato Lodge , No . 2265 , September 17 th , 1 S 90 , in recognition of his valuable services as Worshipful Master , 18 S 9-90 . The central diamond presented by Bro . H . I . Barnato . " The Barnato brethren unquestionably recognise
the services of those on whose shoulders the conduct of their lodge business rests . Bro . M . J . De Leeusv , who during the past 12 months has brought some amount of energy to bear upon his duties , vvas the next to be complimented . A very neat Secretary ' s jesvel svas nosv given to the W . M ., vvho , in handing it over to Bro . De Leeuvv assured him the members , one and all , thanked him for the attention he had given to his duties . The jesvel presented
to the Secretary svas inscribed as follosvs : "Presented to Bro . M . J . Ue Leeusv , by the brethren of the Barnato Lodge , No . 2265 , in recognition of his valuable services as Secretary , 18 S 9-90 . " Bro . De Leeusv , svho vvas completely taken by surprise , disclaimed any desire for special effort ; what he undertook he strove to go through svith satisfactorily . Their appreciation of his svork svould incite him further , and he trusted that as time rolled on he should still retain
their good opinion . After routine business had been attended to , the lodge svas closed . The banquet svas served by Messrs . Baker , Bros ., Limited , under the personal superintendence of Bro . Sams , svho received high commendation for the admirable manner in vvhich it svas placed before the brethren . On the removal of the cloth a full toast list svas honoured , but the speeches svas made as brief as svas convenient , in
order that those present might enjoy the musical treat provided . Bro . AV . Wright , the Organist of the lodge , to svhom had been entrusted the arrangements , had secured the services of the Unity Vocal Quartett , Miss Douglas , Bros . AV .
Bro . M . J .
