M-j" expressed his warm thanks to him for the very able manner he had performed the duties of Installing Master , remarking he had been present many times on such occasions , but had seldom heard the beautiful ritual n-iven more ably . ° The I . P . M ., Bro . Ferris , acknowledged the compliment , and his gratification and that of the brethren at the advent

to office of Master of Bro . Shepherd for the third time in the Rosslyn Lodge , and felt sure under the guidance of so experienced a brother , the affairs of the lodge could but prosper . " The Initiate" was given , the W . M . pointing out to him some of the beauties of our Order , and prophesied that Bro . Reakes' name would soon be known in the province on account of his undoubted musical talents , which had given so much pleasure to them all during the

evening . Bro . Reakes thanked the brethren for their kindness , and expressed his deep sense of the impressiveness of the ceremony he had just gone through , and hoped he should prove both good and true . The toasts of "The P . M . 's" and "Officers" were duly acknowledged by Bros . Clapham Lyle and Franklin .

Bro . Adams replied for "Ihe Visitors , " paying a marked tribute as to the working of the lodge . " The Charities " was given , Bro . Shepherd dwelling on their utility , saying there existed no such Institutions in the world , and he coupled with the toast Bro . Dehane , one of the Provincial Charity representatives , who endorsed fully every word that had fallen from the VV . M ., and entered

into some details about the candidates for the forthcoming elections , urging upon all to secure their success by supporting the Committee in their endeavours . The Tyler ' s toast concluded a most pk ' asant gathering . The harmony of the evening was conduced to by Bros . Lewin , Lyle . Franklin ( The Entered Apprentice ' s song ) , Reakes , and others .

LEEDS . —Prudence Lodge ( No . 2069 ) . —On Saturday , the 13 th inst ., the usual monthly meeting of this very prosperous lodge was h » Id in the Masonic Hall , Great George-street . It was scrolling meeting , and occasion was taken of that most interesting circumstance to impress upon the W . M ., Bro . Tudor Trevor , P . M ., the deep feelings of personal regard with which he is regarded by the

brethren , for , during his most happy year of office , not one cloud has threatened to mar the harmony and unanimity which is one of the most noteworthy characteristics of the lodge . The W . M . others . The lodge having been opened , Bro . Geo . Pratt was raised to the Sublime Degree by the W . M ., assisted by Bro . C . L . Mason . The scrolling for the incoming VV . M . was then proceeded with , Bro . Watson , S . W ., receiving a unanimous call to that exalted honour , a choice which as much redounded to the credit of the lodge as to Bro .

Watson , whose fame as a Masonic author and authority is known far beyond the limits of Leeds . This will be the third time Bro . Watson has been called upon to fill the chair of K . S . Bro . Robert Abbott was again unanimously chosen as Treasurer of the lodge , the announcement of his election being received with the liveliest expressions of satisfaction . Bro . S . Barrand was also re-appointed Tyler

of the lodge , a post which he has hitherto filled with marked ability . Bros . Watson and Middleton were elected Auditors of the lodge funds , the W . M . nominating Bro . rrettwell as his representative . Bro . Craig then moved that a P . M . founder ' s jewel of the lodge pattern should be presented to the W . M . out of the lodge funds , and this , on being seconded by Bro . Mason , was carried with

acclamation , and suitably acknowledged by Bro . Tudor Trevor , bro . Trevor then read a short valedictory address from the chair . He said : " It is now my duty to render an account { I , Y Stewardship during the past year , and I feel very that it is a satisfactory account that I can give to . you . JJunng the year of my Mastership I have had the

satisfaction of initiating six new members of the lodge and of enrolling two new joining members . On the 14 th of January We voted 10 guineas to the R . M . B . I . On February 14 Bro . Watson was appointed Hon . Curator and Librarian of the provincial library and museum , and as an evidence of the way in which he has discharged his duties in that connection , 1 will refer you to the forthcoming- reoort of the

' rovincial Grand Lodge held at Keighley . On the ioth of "larch we signalised the silver wedding of the Prince and . "" cess of Wales by sending a congratulatory telegram 10 their Royal Highnesses , to which a suitable and gracious reply was received . On April 14 th we

Trevor the earnest assurance that the Masonic year just ended had been one of the happiest in their experience . The usual toasts were interspersed with songs , not the least interesting contribution being that of Bro . Culleyn , of Richmond , Virginia , U . S . A ., who gave a fraternal invitation to brethren who might cross the Atlantic .

SEACOMBE . —Egerton Lodge ( No . 2132 ) . — The installation meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , the nth instant , at the Seacombe Hotel . The meetings of tho lodge have been hitherto held at the Egremont Institute , but a decision was recently arrived at to remove thence to the Seacombe Hotel . Thursday was the first night of the new arrangement , The Egerton is a

young lodge , having been consecrated so recently as 18 S 5 , but it has already obtained a position which gives every promise of future success . Harnell for his kindness in undertaking the duties of Secretary during his absence in America . Bro . R . J . Harnell , he was sure , had given every satisfaction to the brethren , and he ( Bro . G . Reynolds ) was pleased to say that the books connected with the lodge of instruction had been most carefully kept , and were a great credit to Bro , R . J . Harnell . He begged also to thank the brethren for the hearty

and cordial manner in which he was received amongst them on the previous Thursday . It was a great proof of their good feeling towards him , which he much appreciated . He hoped now to be regular at his duties as Secretary , and trusted the brethren would continue to support the lodge of instruction , and give him plenty of work to do . Since his return he had been most fortunate in introducing ¦ American brethren to lodges , and he then felt it a pleasure of introducing to them Bro . the Rev . John N . MacGonigle

, a P . M . and P . H . Priest , and a dear friend and brother of Bro . C . E . Meyer , of Philadelphia , whose kindess—with many other brethrenduring their recent visit to America Bro . John Skinner and himself would long remember with pleasure . Bro . the Rev . John N . MacGonigle expressed great pleasure at what he had witnessed of the working of the covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , congratulating and complimenting the brethren upon their readiness and efficiency , at the same time pointing out some difference in the

method ot working , and referred to the absolute similarity or unity of the essential principles of English and American Masonry , and said : " The great majority of Americans rind their mother country in some section of the United Kingdom . A perpetual peace and brotherhood between the two nations is a foregone conclusion , for every intelligent American knows we have one common law , one common language , and we are but parts of the imperial

race which shall yet make c . inquest of the world , and , in making that conquest and binding the two nations together , there can be no more potent element than true Masonic brotherhood , which gives to every American Mason a warm and hearty welcome to England , and assures to every English Mason a return of the same hospitality and fraternal cheer in America . " Nothing further offering for the good of Freemasonry , the lodge was closed .

to office of Master of Bro . Shepherd for the third time in the Rosslyn Lodge , and felt sure under the guidance of so experienced a brother , the affairs of the lodge could but prosper . " The Initiate" was given , the W . M . pointing out to him some of the beauties of our Order , and prophesied that Bro . Reakes' name would soon be known in the province on account of his undoubted musical talents , which had given so much pleasure to them all during the

evening . Bro . Reakes thanked the brethren for their kindness , and expressed his deep sense of the impressiveness of the ceremony he had just gone through , and hoped he should prove both good and true . The toasts of "The P . M . 's" and "Officers" were duly acknowledged by Bros . Clapham Lyle and Franklin .

Bro . Adams replied for "Ihe Visitors , " paying a marked tribute as to the working of the lodge . " The Charities " was given , Bro . Shepherd dwelling on their utility , saying there existed no such Institutions in the world , and he coupled with the toast Bro . Dehane , one of the Provincial Charity representatives , who endorsed fully every word that had fallen from the VV . M ., and entered

into some details about the candidates for the forthcoming elections , urging upon all to secure their success by supporting the Committee in their endeavours . Watson , whose fame as a Masonic author and authority is known far beyond the limits of Leeds . This will be the third time Bro . Watson has been called upon to fill the chair of K . S . Bro . Robert Abbott was again unanimously chosen as Treasurer of the lodge , the announcement of his election being received with the liveliest expressions of satisfaction . Bro . S . Barrand was also re-appointed Tyler

of the lodge , a post which he has hitherto filled with marked ability . Bros . Watson and Middleton were elected Auditors of the lodge funds , the W . M . nominating Bro . rrettwell as his representative . Bro . Craig then moved that a P . M . founder ' s jewel of the lodge pattern should be presented to the W . M . out of the lodge funds , and this , on being seconded by Bro . Mason , was carried with

acclamation , and suitably acknowledged by Bro . Tudor Trevor , bro . Trevor then read a short valedictory address from the chair . MacGonigle expressed great pleasure at what he had witnessed of the working of the covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , congratulating and complimenting the brethren upon their readiness and efficiency , at the same time pointing out some difference in the

method ot working , and referred to the absolute similarity or unity of the essential principles of English and American Masonry , and said : " The great majority of Americans rind their mother country in some section of the United Kingdom . A perpetual peace and brotherhood between the two nations is a foregone conclusion , for every intelligent American knows we have one common law , one common language , and we are but parts of the imperial

race which shall yet make c . inquest of the world , and , in making that conquest and binding the two nations together , there can be no more potent element than true Masonic brotherhood , which gives to every American Mason a warm and hearty welcome to England , and assures to every English Mason a return of the same hospitality and fraternal cheer in America . M . rehearsed the ceremony of raising , Bro . Hyde candidate . The W . M . rehearsed the traditional history . Lodge was resumed to the Second Degree , and the ist Section of tbii Lecture was worked by the brethren , under the direction of the W . M . Lodge was resumed to the First Degree . Bro . Speigel , P . M ., was unanimously elected to occupy the chair at the next meeting , liro . Skinner was elected a joining member .
