to office of Master of Bro . Shepherd for the third time in the Rosslyn Lodge , and felt sure under the guidance of so experienced a brother , the affairs of the lodge could but prosper . " The Initiate" was given , the W . M . pointing out to him some of the beauties of our Order , and prophesied that Bro . Reakes' name would soon be known in the province on account of his undoubted musical talents , which had given so much pleasure to them all during the

evening . Bro . Reakes thanked the brethren for their kindness , and expressed his deep sense of the impressiveness of the ceremony he had just gone through , and hoped he should prove both good and true . The toasts of "The P . M . 's" and "Officers" were duly acknowledged by Bros . Clapham Lyle and Franklin .

Bro . Adams replied for "Ihe Visitors , " paying a marked tribute as to the working of the lodge . " The Charities " was given , Bro . Shepherd dwelling on their utility , saying there existed no such Institutions in the world , and he coupled with the toast Bro . Dehane , one of the Provincial Charity representatives , who endorsed fully every word that had fallen from the VV . M ., and entered

into some details about the candidates for the forthcoming elections , urging upon all to secure their success by supporting the Committee in their endeavours . Robert Abbott was again unanimously chosen as Treasurer of the lodge , the announcement of his election being received with the liveliest expressions of satisfaction . Bro . S . Barrand was also re-appointed Tyler

of the lodge , a post which he has hitherto filled with marked ability . Bros . Watson and Middleton were elected Auditors of the lodge funds , the W . M . nominating Bro . rrettwell as his representative . Bro . Craig then moved that a P . M . founder ' s jewel of the lodge pattern should be presented to the W . MacGonigle expressed great pleasure at what he had witnessed of the working of the covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , congratulating and complimenting the brethren upon their readiness and efficiency , at the same time pointing out some difference in the

method ot working , and referred to the absolute similarity or unity of the essential principles of English and American Masonry , and said : " The great majority of Americans rind their mother country in some section of the United Kingdom . A perpetual peace and brotherhood between the two nations is a foregone conclusion , for every intelligent American knows we have one common law , one common language , and we are but parts of the imperial

race which shall yet make c . inquest of the world , and , in making that conquest and binding the two nations together , there can be no more potent element than true Masonic brotherhood , which gives to every American Mason a warm and hearty welcome to England , and assures to every English Mason a return of the same hospitality and fraternal cheer in America .
