" The Visitors" was the next toast on the list ; and Bros . T . M . Barron , T . R . J obson , and G . N . Patterson replied . "The Past Masters of Industry Lodge" vvas proposed by the W . M ., and all the Past Masters present acknowledged the honour . "The Present and Past Officers" and the Tyler's toast completed a very enjoyable evening ' s entertainment .

HAMPTON COURT . Hemming Lodge ( No . 1512 ) . —This highly prosperous provincial lodge met at the Greyhound Hotel , on the 19 th instant , when there vvere present , among others , Bros . F . A . Scholding , W . M . ; G . Ransford , P . M ., D . C , acting S . W . ; John Smith , J . W . ; J . C . Jessett , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., Treas . ; Capt . T . C . Walls , P . M ., P . P . G . W .,

Sec ; J . W . Clarke , S . D . ; Robinson , J . D . ; Robinson , I . G . ; W . Spearing , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B . ; R . Eales , P . M . ; E . Clark , I . P . M . ; W . S . Plimsaul , P . Whicher vvas raised to the Third

Degree in a very able and impressive manner by the W . M ., his performance of the ceremony leaving but little to be desired . The W . M ., in the name of the lodge , presented Bro . E . Clark , I . P . M ., vvith the collar and jewel of his office in a few well-chosen sentences . Bro . Clark having acknowledged the compliment , apologies for non-attendance were read from Bros . W . Fisher , S . W .: R . Kent , Steward ; and

several lay members of the lodge . The lodge vvas then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . Upon the removal of the cloth , the customary toasts received full justice . Bro . W . Spearing responded upon behalf of " The Provincial Grand Officers . " " The Health of the W . M . " followed , and having been

duly honoured , he replied . In the course of his remarks , the W . M . said that the proposer of the toast had spoken very eloquently , but far in excess of his ( the speaker ' s ) merits as a working Mason . He felt quite at home in a lodge of instruction , but when he hadto face a critical audience in a regular lodge he somehow did not appear to be doing the work properly . However , they had received the toast of his health so well , that it would be bad taste

for him to cavil at the flattering mode in vvhich it had been proposed . Bro . Clark , I . P . M ., replied tothe toast of "The Past Masters . " In replying to "The Health of the Visitors , " Bros . Harvey , P . M ., and Edghill spoke in high terms of the working , harmony , and hospitality of the Hemming Lodge . A few other toasts were given , and the proceedings terminated . This was the last regular meeting of the season .

KINGSTON-ON-THAMES . Dobie Lodge ( No . 889 ) . —A meeting vvas held at the Griffin Hotel , on Wednesday , the iSth inst . The W . M ., Bro . F . J . Sublime Degree in a most impressive manner . This was the first time the W . M . had worked that ceremony in lodge , and the brethren much appreciated it . The Wardens were also well up in their parts . One candidate vvas proposed , and then lodge was closed , and the brethren partook of refreshment .

the new W . M ., when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given , "The D . P . G . M ., Bro . Hamon Le Strange , " being received vvith much enthusiasm . During the evening Bros . Wimble , Bircham , Hudson , Goddard , and Jackson rendered some capital songs , and a mest enjoyable evening was spent . The jewel vvas manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .

WOOLWICH . Nelson Lodge ( No . 700 ) . —Bro . S . E . Southgate , W . M . of the above excellent lodge , being unavoidably absent at itsmeeting on the iSth inst ., Bro . W . Webber , I . P . M ., presided , and did a rare night ' swork . The meeting vvas held at Freemasons' Hall , Mount Pleasant , and the lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the previous

meeting confirmed , the ballot vvas taken for five candidates —Messrs . R . W . P . Wilkins , J . Brown , G . L . Brown , C . Norman , and C . Sharman—and proving unanimous , those gentlemen vvere duly initiated . Bros . Watts and Crouch vvere then passed , and the lodge was closed . Nothing could

exceed the excellent working , except the generous and ready hospitality offered the visitors , for at the dinner vvhich followed Bro . J . W . Miller , P . M ., Stwd ., assisted by Bros . G . H . Porter , D . C . ; and Pammant and Grant , Stwds ., were indefatigable in attending to the wants of all assembled .

honoured , the acting I . P . M . proposed the toast of "The VV . M ., " and , in response , Bro . Webber said their esteemed W . M ., Bro . Southgate , was absent through domestic affairs , he having that day parted vvith his eldest son , who vvas then on his way to Australia , so that it was impossible for him to be present in time to carry out the duties of the lodge , but if he had

been present the work would have been carried out to their satisfaction—more than he , Bro . Webber , had carried it out . However , he vvas pleased to occupy the chair once again ; it seemed like old times to be in it , even if only for one night . He must thank the brethren , and especially the officers , for the hearty support they had accorded him that night . So far as the W . M . was concerned , he vvas sure

they would find him in every respect worthy of the lodge , and at the end of his year of office acknowledge that he had done his work well . He vvas pleased to see such an array of brethren and visitors present , some S 4 in all , and hoped for many years to see the good old " Nelson " as much respected , as well represented , and as prosperous as it vvas at the present time .

The other toasts vvere "The Past Masters , " for vvhich all the Past Masters present severally responded ; " The Visitors , " responded to by Bros . Syer , Horsley , Morris , Turvey , Sayle , and Hewett ; "The Initiates , " all of whom responded ; " The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast . Some excellent singing and reciting added to the pleasure of the evening .

Purnell ; and the charge being delivered by the Treasurer , Bro . J . Todd ,

P . M . Bro . Walter Reynolds , P . G . Treasurer , as a visitor , and by permission of the W . M ., made an interesting statement as to the Educational Fund of the province , stating that the next Festival will be held on 27 th May at Scarborough , under the presidency of the Dean of York , and he urged the need of additional annual subscriptions in

order to maintain its present flourishing position . He gave a resume of the funds already devoted to this object , and trusted the movement would be well supported . A vote of thanks vvas passed to Bro . Reynolds for his information . Some other routine business having been transacted , the lodge vvas closed .

The customary loyal and Royal Arch toasts vvere proposed in a cordial manner , and heartily responded to . That of "The Visitors" including Comps . James J . Woolley , F . Harrison , and George H . Reynolds , who replied , expressing themselves in terms of great approval of

the manner in which the chapter working had been rendered , and of the hospitality and good fellowship which permeated the Covent Garden Chapter . After a very harmonious and pleasant evening , the proceedings terminated vvith the Janitor's toast .

HULL . Kingston Chapter ( No . 1010 ) . —The monthly meeting of this chapter vvas held at the Masonic Hall , Kingston-square , on Wednesday , the iSth inst ., when there vvere present : Comps . The chapter having been opened , and minutes read and confirmed , the M . E . Z . stated that the candidate previously accepted being unable to be present for exaltation , Comp . M . C Peck , P . Z ., P . A . G . D . of C England , had kindly

promised to deliver an address upon Royal Arch Masonry . Comp . Peck then , after a brief introduction , reviewed the probable origin of the Order , and its subsequent history , referring to the change from St . John's Gospel to Genesis , Dr . D'Assigny ' s work , York minutes , earliest known Hull companions , the nine worthies , and also described the old

ceremonies of passing the chair and the veils , & c . He exhibited several ancient Royal Arch aprons , and other curious and interesting objects . The address vvas copiously illustrated by quotations from the works of Comp . Hug han and other Masonic authors , and at its conclusion a vote of thanks was unanimously accorded to the lecturer on the proposition of the M . E . Z .

P . M ., vvith the collar and jewel of his office in a few well-chosen sentences . Bro . Clark having acknowledged the compliment , apologies for non-attendance were read from Bros . W . Fisher , S . W .: R . Kent , Steward ; and

several lay members of the lodge . The lodge vvas then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . Upon the removal of the cloth , the customary toasts received full justice . Bro . W . Spearing responded upon behalf of " The Provincial Grand Officers . " " The Health of the W . M . " followed , and having been

duly honoured , he replied . In the course of his remarks , the W . M . said that the proposer of the toast had spoken very eloquently , but far in excess of his ( the speaker ' s ) merits as a working Mason . He felt quite at home in a lodge of instruction , but when he hadto face a critical audience in a regular lodge he somehow did not appear to be doing the work properly . However , they had received the toast of his health so well , that it would be bad taste

for him to cavil at the flattering mode in vvhich it had been proposed . Bro . Clark , I . P . M ., replied tothe toast of "The Past Masters . " In replying to "The Health of the Visitors , " Bros . Harvey , P . M ., and Edghill spoke in high terms of the working , harmony , and hospitality of the Hemming Lodge . A few other toasts were given , and the proceedings terminated . M ., presided , and did a rare night ' swork . The meeting vvas held at Freemasons' Hall , Mount Pleasant , and the lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the previous

meeting confirmed , the ballot vvas taken for five candidates —Messrs . R . W . P . Wilkins , J . Brown , G . L . Brown , C . Norman , and C . Sharman—and proving unanimous , those gentlemen vvere duly initiated . Bros . Watts and Crouch vvere then passed , and the lodge was closed . Nothing could

honoured , the acting I . P . M . proposed the toast of "The VV . M ., " and , in response , Bro . Webber said their esteemed W . M ., Bro . Southgate , was absent through domestic affairs , he having that day parted vvith his eldest son , who vvas then on his way to Australia , so that it was impossible for him to be present in time to carry out the duties of the lodge , but if he had

been present the work would have been carried out to their satisfaction—more than he , Bro . Webber , had carried it out . However , he vvas pleased to occupy the chair once again ; it seemed like old times to be in it , even if only for one night . He must thank the brethren , and especially the officers , for the hearty support they had accorded him that night . So far as the W . M . was concerned , he vvas sure

they would find him in every respect worthy of the lodge , and at the end of his year of office acknowledge that he had done his work well . He vvas pleased to see such an array of brethren and visitors present , some S 4 in all , and hoped for many years to see the good old " Nelson " as much respected , as well represented , and as prosperous as it vvas at the present time .

The other toasts vvere "The Past Masters , " for vvhich all the Past Masters present severally responded ; " The Visitors , " responded to by Bros . Syer , Horsley , Morris , Turvey , Sayle , and Hewett ; "The Initiates , " all of whom responded ; " The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast . Some excellent singing and reciting added to the pleasure of the evening .

M ., made an interesting statement as to the Educational Fund of the province , stating that the next Festival will be held on 27 th May at Scarborough , under the presidency of the Dean of York , and he urged the need of additional annual subscriptions in

order to maintain its present flourishing position . He gave a resume of the funds already devoted to this object , and trusted the movement would be well supported . A vote of thanks vvas passed to Bro . Reynolds for his information . Some other routine business having been transacted , the lodge vvas closed .

The customary loyal and Royal Arch toasts vvere proposed in a cordial manner , and heartily responded to . That of "The Visitors" including Comps . James J . Woolley , F . Harrison , and George H . Reynolds , who replied , expressing themselves in terms of great approval of

the manner in which the chapter working had been rendered , and of the hospitality and good fellowship which permeated the Covent Garden Chapter . After a very harmonious and pleasant evening , the proceedings terminated vvith the Janitor's toast .

HULL . Kingston Chapter ( No . 1010 ) . —The monthly meeting of this chapter vvas held at the Masonic Hall , Kingston-square , on Wednesday , the iSth inst ., when there vvere present : Comps . The chapter having been opened , and minutes read and confirmed , the M . E . Z . stated that the candidate previously accepted being unable to be present for exaltation , Comp . M . C Peck , P . promised to deliver an address upon Royal Arch Masonry . Comp . Peck then , after a brief introduction , reviewed the probable origin of the Order , and its subsequent history , referring to the change from St . John's Gospel to Genesis , Dr . D'Assigny ' s work , York minutes , earliest known Hull companions , the nine worthies , and also described the old

ceremonies of passing the chair and the veils , & c . He exhibited several ancient Royal Arch aprons , and other curious and interesting objects . The address vvas copiously illustrated by quotations from the works of Comp . Hug han and other Masonic authors , and at its conclusion a vote of thanks was unanimously accorded to the lecturer on the proposition of the M . E . Z .
