M . of the Chancery Bar Lodge in the presence of the Prince of Wales has been the notable Masonic event of the year , is a son of the late Mr . Justice Coltman . He was educated at Eton and Trinity College , Cambridge , being a M . A . of that University , a Barristerat-Law , and Majorand Hon . Lt-Colonel of the Inns of Court Rifle Corps ( the Devil ' s

Own ) . He was initiated in Friendship Lodge , No . 6 , in 1865 , 2 nd was installed W . M . in 1880 . He was one of the founders of the Northern Bar Lodge , and was chosen the first W . M . of the Chancery Bar Lodge , at the consecration of which , in the Library of Lincoln ' s Inn , the M . W . G . Master the Prince of Wales assisted , and afterwards presided at the banquet . Bro . Coltman is a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted in Friendship Chapter in 1870 , afterwards becoming First Principal in 1883 .

Bro . Lieut .-General C . W . RANDOLPH , late of the Grenadier Guards was initiated in the Friends of Council Lodge , No . 1383 , in the year 1873 , and became W . M . in 1878 . He afterwards joined the Hova Ecclesia Lodge , No . 1466 , and the Studholme Lodge , No . 1591 , and was a founder of the Earl of Sussex Lodge , No . 2201 . In 1884 he was appointed Prov . S . G . W . of Sussex . General

Randolph was exalted in the Royal Arch Degree in St . James' Chapter , No . 2 , and was a founder and First Principal of the Friends in Council Chapter . On the death of Sir Walter Burrell in 1 S 90 , he was appointed Grand Superintendent of Sussex . He has done good service to our Institutions , having served as Steward for each , and qualified himself as Life Governor of all three .

Bro . ALFRED COOPER , Past Grand Steward , is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons , surgeon of several hospitals , Surgeon-Major of the Inns of Court Rifle Corps , is a Chevalier of the Order of Stanislaus of Russia , and holds various other honorary appointments . He was initiated in the Prince of Wales Lodge , No . 259 , in 1875 , and is Worshipful Master this year . He joined the Studholme Lodge

in 1876 , and filled the chair in 1878 , was a founder of Sir Thomas White Lodge in 18 79 , and in 1885 joined the Drury Lane Lodge . In Royal Arch Masonry he was exalted in the Prince of Wales Chapter , and has filled the chair of M . E . Z . both in this chapter and the Studholme . Bro . Cooper is a Vice-President of the Girls ' School , having served five Stewardships for that Institution , as well as for the Benevolent Institution and the Boys' School .

JUNIOR GRAND DEACONS . i Bro . J THORNHILL MORLAND , M . A ., was initiated 31 years since in the Abbey Lodge , No . 945 , Abingdon , and installed W . M . in 1 S 68 , again filling the chair in 1873 . In 1865 he received his first Provincial Grand Lodge appointment , that of A . G . D . C , and became successively Prov . S . G . D . in 1869 , Prov . G . Reg . in 1873 of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Berks and Bucks ; and on the creation of

Berks and Bucks as separate provinces , in 18 90 , he was appointed Deputy Grand Master of Berks , and has been in charge of the province since the death of the Duke of Clarence . Bro . Morland was exalted in the Royal Arch Degree in the Alfred Chapter , No . 340 , in 1886 , and was elected First Principal in 1887 . He was a founder and first M . E . Z . of the Abbey Chapter , No . 945 . In the Provincial Grand

Chapter of Berks and Bucks he was appointed G . N . in 1880 , and on the separation of the provinces , in 18 91 , he was appointed Grand Superintendent of Berkshire , a position which he still occupies . He has served as Steward for , and is a Life Governor of , each of the Institutions . Bro . Morland was educated at Trinity College , Cambridge , is Clerk of the Peace , and Clerk of the County Council of Berkshire .

J UDGE MASTERMAN is a Mason of some 27 years standing , having been initiated in the Apollo Lodge , Oxford , in 186 7 , afterwards joining the Beaminster Lodge , No . 1118 , in 18 73 , the Jerusalem Lodge , No . 197 , in 1888 , and the Royal Sussex Lodge , No . 402 , in 1893 . In three of these lodges he has filled the chair of Worshipful Master , viz ., the Beaminster , the University , and the Jerusalem . He

is a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted in the Alfred Chapter , No . 340 , in 1868 , and he afterwards joined and became First Principal of the University Chapter , No . 1118 , in 1883 . He is a Life Governor of each Institution . Judge Masterman was educated at Oxford , and is M . A . and D . C . L . of that University He was appointed a County Court Judge in the year 1 S 91 .

Bro . Lieut .-Col . J . ALLEN BINDLEY , of the Abbey Lodge , Burton-on-Trent , is a Mason of 33 years' standing . He occupies the position of Deputy G . Master of Staffordshire , having been appointed to that office by the late Col . Gough , and since his death has been , and still is , in charge of the Province , and is as well Grand Superintendent of the Provincial Grand Chapter . He was initiated in

1061 in the Abbey Lodge , Burton-on-Trent , and was W . M . in 1867 and a second time in 1883 , He is also a joining member of Tudor Lodge of Rifle Volunteers , No . 1838 . Before his appointment as Prov . Grand Master he filled the chair of S . G . W . in 1883 . He was exalted in the Abbey Chapter , No . 623 , in 1871 , and just 21 years later became Grand Superintendent of the Province . Bro . Bindley ' a Life Governor of the Girls' and Boys' Schools .

GRAND SUPERINTENDENT OF WORKS . Bro . REGINALD ST . A . ROUMIEU was initiated in Lodge St . Peter Westminster , No . 1537 , in January , 1876 , and in 1 S 86 assisted in the founding of the Huguenot Lodge , No . 2140 . He afterwards filled the chairs of both these lodges ,

'hat of St . Peter Westminster in 1884 , and the Huguenot in 1892 . In the Royal Arch Degree he was exalted in the Chapter of St . James , No . 2 , attached to Anti quity Lodge , and became its First Principal in 1889 . Bro . Roumieu is a donor to the Boys' and Girls' Schools , and outside Masonry his contributions to Various Charities have been considerable .

DEPUTY GRAND DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . LENNOX BROWNE , the well known surgeon , who has been appointed to "lis otlice , is , in comparison with his activity , a young Mason , having been initiated " 1 the Maybury Lodge , No . 9 6 9 , in the year 1879 , in which lodge he served three successive years as Warden , failing to go through the chair because he elected to fill a gap in the Empire Lodge caused by the death of Bro . Admiral Sir William Hewett between the date of election and installation . Of this lodge , which a niongst thc younger lodges has attained very high distinction as a meeting

ground for Home and Colonial brethren , Bro . Lennox Browne was one of the most active founders , and was the first Secretary , and has been for the last six years , Treasurer . Bro . Lennox Browne was also founder and first Mister of tbe Warner Lodge , No . 2256 , founder and I . P . M . of the . "Esculapius Lodge , and is a member and D . C . of the Earl of Sussex Lodge . In 1 S 90 a new lodge was founded at Buckhurst Hill , bearing the title of Lennox Browne , the name being offered

for his acceptance by the other founders as a compliment to the brother bearing it . In 18 S 9 Bro . Lennox Browne was made Provincial Senior Grand Warden for Essex . In the Arch he was exalted in the British Chapter , No . 8 , and was First Principal in the present year . He was founder and first IvI . E . Z . of Empire Chapter , founder and first H . of the recently consecrated / Esculapius Chapter , and is a member of the Patriotic Chapter , No . 51 . In the Mark , he

was advanced in the Bon Accord , and became a founder of tlie Egerton of Tatton Lodge , of which he filled the office of Master in 1 S 92 . He was also a founder , and is a Past " W . C . N . Matier Lodge of Ark Mariners . In this Degree he is a P . G . Stwd . In the Rose Croix , he was perfected in the Invicta , a founder and first M . W . S . of the Belgrave Chapter , 1892 . He is a member of the 30 . In the Knights

Templar he is Prelate of the Bard of Avon Preceptory . He is also a member of the Royal Order of Scotland , and has held office in the Bruce Preceptory . Bro . Lennox Browne has rendered good service to the Charities , bein" Vice-Patron of the Girls' School and Vice-President of each of the other Institutions . He has served 12 Stewardships for the Craft alone , and has also served several Stewardships for the Mark Benevolent Fund .

ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTORS OF CEREMONIES . Bro . E . WALLASTAN STANTON , P . G . Steward , is the only son of the late Archdeacon Stanton , and is a M . A . of Oxford , and a Barrister-at-Law . His Masonic career has been an unostentatious but notable one , dating from 186 7 , in which year he was initiated in Universal Lodge , No . 1 S 1 , joining afterwards the Old Union Lodge , No . 46 , the Bard of Avon , No . 77 S , University , No . 1118 , and the Cadogan , No . 162 . In two of these he filled the chair of W . M ., the Universal

in 1874 , and the Old Union , in 1 S 90 . In the Royal Arch he was exalted in Universal Chapter , No . 1 S 1 ( now the Cadogan , No . 162 ) , and was elected First Piincipal in 1 S 86 . Afterwards he joined the Old Union Chapter , and became M . E . Z . in 1891 . But it is in his support of our Masonic Charities that Bro . Stanton has mainly distinguished himself , having served altogether 20 Stewardships , nine for the Girls ' , five for the Boys ' , and six for the Benevolent , qualifying himself a Patron of all three Institutions . The recognition of such services as these must commend itself to the approval of all the Brotherhood .

BRO . J AMES SALMON was initiated in the Cestrian Lodge , No . 425 , in September , 1 S 52 , and became W . M . in 1 S 72 . He was founder and first W . M . of the Sir Watkin Lodge , No . 1477 , in 18 74 , and in 1876 founded , and was installed first W . M ., the chair of which he held for two years in succession ; he has filled various offices in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire , having been appointed Prov . G . Stwd . in 1867 , P . S . G . D . in 1 S 74 , and P . S . G . W . in i 8 So , as well as P . G . S . B ., and ,

subsequently , P . J . G . W . of North Wales and Salop ; he was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in 1 S 70 , in the Zion Chapter , No . 537 , and joined the Grosvenor Chapter , No . 721 , in 1873 , of which he became first Principal in 1 S 77 ; in Provincial Grand Chapter he filled the offices of Prov . G . J . in 18 77 , and Prov . G . H . in 1892 . In Mark Masonry , Bro . Salmon was advanced in the Joppa Lodge , No . 11 , Birkenhead , in 1876 , and on the Earl of Chester Lodge being founded in 1876 ,

he became its first W . M ., he filled the chair of Unity Lodge , No . 321 , in 1886 ; and was appointed Prov . G . Reg , in 1 S 8 7 ; and Prov . S . G . W . of North Wales and Salop in 1878 ; and on the division of North VVales and Shropshire , was elected P . G . Treas . at the first meeting at Wrexham , in 1 S 86 , by a large majority , and last year he was appointed Deputy G . M , foe the Province ot Chester ; in 1 S 78 he was appointed

to office in Grand Mark Lodge , that of I . G . Bro . Salmon has served eight Stewardships for the Institutions , and is Chairman of the Fund of Benevolence in his province . He has been no less honoured in Civic life , having been elected Sheriff of the City of Chester in 18 79 , and Mayor in 1889 , whilst he was placed on the Commission for the Peace in 1891 .

Bro . J . FLOWER J ACKSON , J . P ., is a Mason of 34 years' standing , was initiated in St . George ' s and Corner Stone Lodge , No . 5 , in 1858 , and became Worshipful Master in 1865 , and is a Past Grand Steward . He has served two Stewardships , viz ., for the Boys' School and the Benevolent Institution .

GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . Major General GADSDEN , whose initiation in Grand Master ' s Lodge , No . 1 , dates from 1853 , was , after an interval of 41 years , installed as W . M , of his mother lodge in January last . The exigencies of his profession rendered his Masonic progress at home impossible , but he has not been inactive during this time , having joined Lodge Astraa , No . 1376 , in Burmah , in 1863 ; Sydney Samaritan Lodge ,

No . 57 8 , in 1868 ; St . John ' s Lodge , No . 434 , in the same year ; the Western Star Lodge , No , 1049 , ' ' ^ 75 ; an d Lodge Philanthropy , No . 542 , in 18 S 4 . Previous to his installation as W . M . of No . i , he had filled the chair ot St . John ' s Lodge , in 1 S 68 and 1875 . In the District Grand Lodge of Madras he has been successively D . G . A . D . of C . in 1869-70 , and 1870-71 , and D . G . W . in 1871-72 . He was exalted in the Royal Arch in the Royal Burmah Chapter , No . S 32 , at Rangoon ,

and afterwards joined St . John s , Secunderabad , No . 434 , in which chapte . ' he was installed First Principal in 1870 . The following offices in the District Grand Chapter of Madras were successively filled by Bro . Gadsden , viz ., District Grand Standard Bearer in 1870 , 2 nd Asst . Sojourner in 1871 , Principal Sojourner in 1 S 72 , Scribe N . in 1873 , and J . in 1875 . He has served as Steward , and qualified as Life Governor for each of the Institutions , and is a Past Grand Steward of England .

DEPU 1 V GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . Lieut ,-Col . J . T . RITCHIE , R . A ., who fills an important official posilion in the War Department , was initiated in 1859 ' Concord Lodge , Banbury , and afterwards joined St . Andrew ' s in the East , at Poona ; the United Military Lodge , at Woolwich ; and the Ubique Lodge , No . 1789 , of which he was a founder and Worshipful Master in 18 79 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in Stockwell Chapter , afterwards joining the Ubique , of which he became First Principal in 1890 . He has served two Stewardships , one each for thc Boys' and Girls' Schools .

GRAND STANDARD BEARERS . Bro . GEORGE READ was initiated in Zetland Lodge , No . 511 , held at Kensington , December , 1865 , was W . M . in 1871 , and has been Secretary from that time to the present . He joined the Hyde Park Lodge , No . 1425 , at its consecration in 1873 , was then appointed Secretary , and has held it lrom that time to the present ; joined the Londesborough Lodge , No . 16 S 1 , at its consecration in 1877 , was then appointed Secretary , and held the appointment until 18 90 , when be was elected

In three of these lodges he has filled the chair of Worshipful Master , viz ., the Beaminster , the University , and the Jerusalem . He

is a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted in the Alfred Chapter , No . 340 , in 1868 , and he afterwards joined and became First Principal of the University Chapter , No . 1118 , in 1883 . He is a Life Governor of each Institution . Judge Masterman was educated at Oxford , and is M . A . and D . C . L . of that University He was appointed a County Court Judge in the year 1 S 91 .

Bro . Lieut .-Col . J . ALLEN BINDLEY , of the Abbey Lodge , Burton-on-Trent , is a Mason of 33 years' standing . He occupies the position of Deputy G . Master of Staffordshire , having been appointed to that office by the late Col . Gough , and since his death has been , and still is , in charge of the Province , and is as well Grand Superintendent of the Provincial Grand Chapter . He was initiated in

1061 in the Abbey Lodge , Burton-on-Trent , and was W . M . in 1867 and a second time in 1883 , He is also a joining member of Tudor Lodge of Rifle Volunteers , No . 1838 . Before his appointment as Prov . Grand Master he filled the chair of S . G . W . in 1883 . He was exalted in the Abbey Chapter , No . 623 , in 1871 , and just 21 years later became Grand Superintendent of the Province . Bro . Bindley ' a Life Governor of the Girls' and Boys' Schools .

GRAND SUPERINTENDENT OF WORKS . Bro . REGINALD ST . A . ROUMIEU was initiated in Lodge St . Peter Westminster , No . 1537 , in January , 1876 , and in 1 S 86 assisted in the founding of the Huguenot Lodge , No . 2140 . He afterwards filled the chairs of both these lodges ,

'hat of St . Peter Westminster in 1884 , and the Huguenot in 1892 . In the Royal Arch Degree he was exalted in the Chapter of St . James , No . 2 , attached to Anti quity Lodge , and became its First Principal in 1889 . Bro . Roumieu is a donor to the Boys' and Girls' Schools , and outside Masonry his contributions to Various Charities have been considerable .

DEPUTY GRAND DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . LENNOX BROWNE , the well known surgeon , who has been appointed to "lis otlice , is , in comparison with his activity , a young Mason , having been initiated " 1 the Maybury Lodge , No . 9 6 9 , in the year 1879 , in which lodge he served three successive years as Warden , failing to go through the chair because he elected to fill a gap in the Empire Lodge caused by the death of Bro . Admiral Sir William Hewett between the date of election and installation . Of this lodge , which a niongst thc younger lodges has attained very high distinction as a meeting

Lennox Browne was also founder and first Mister of tbe Warner Lodge , No . 2256 , founder and I . P . M . of the . "Esculapius Lodge , and is a member and D . C . of the Earl of Sussex Lodge . In 1 S 90 a new lodge was founded at Buckhurst Hill , bearing the title of Lennox Browne , the name being offered

for his acceptance by the other founders as a compliment to the brother bearing it . In 18 S 9 Bro . Lennox Browne was made Provincial Senior Grand Warden for Essex . In the Arch he was exalted in the British Chapter , No . 8 , and was First Principal in the present year . He was founder and first IvI . E . Z . of Empire Chapter , founder and first H . of the recently consecrated / Esculapius Chapter , and is a member of the Patriotic Chapter , No . 51 . In the Mark , he

was advanced in the Bon Accord , and became a founder of tlie Egerton of Tatton Lodge , of which he filled the office of Master in 1 S 92 . He was also a founder , and is a Past " W . C . N . Matier Lodge of Ark Mariners . In this Degree he is a P . G . Stwd . In the Rose Croix , he was perfected in the Invicta , a founder and first M . W . S . of the Belgrave Chapter , 1892 . He is a member of the 30 . In the Knights

Templar he is Prelate of the Bard of Avon Preceptory . He is also a member of the Royal Order of Scotland , and has held office in the Bruce Preceptory . Bro . Lennox Browne has rendered good service to the Charities , bein" Vice-Patron of the Girls' School and Vice-President of each of the other Institutions . He has served 12 Stewardships for the Craft alone , and has also served several Stewardships for the Mark Benevolent Fund .

ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTORS OF CEREMONIES . Bro . E . WALLASTAN STANTON , P . G . Steward , is the only son of the late Archdeacon Stanton , and is a M . A . of Oxford , and a Barrister-at-Law . His Masonic career has been an unostentatious but notable one , dating from 186 7 , in which year he was initiated in Universal Lodge , No . 1 S 1 , joining afterwards the Old Union Lodge , No . 46 , the Bard of Avon , No . 77 S , University , No . 1118 , and the Cadogan , No . 162 . In two of these he filled the chair of W . M ., the Universal

in 1874 , and the Old Union , in 1 S 90 . In the Royal Arch he was exalted in Universal Chapter , No . 1 S 1 ( now the Cadogan , No . 162 ) , and was elected First Piincipal in 1 S 86 . Afterwards he joined the Old Union Chapter , and became M . E . Z . in 1891 . But it is in his support of our Masonic Charities that Bro . Stanton has mainly distinguished himself , having served altogether 20 Stewardships , nine for the Girls ' , five for the Boys ' , and six for the Benevolent , qualifying himself a Patron of all three Institutions . The recognition of such services as these must commend itself to the approval of all the Brotherhood .

BRO . J AMES SALMON was initiated in the Cestrian Lodge , No . 425 , in September , 1 S 52 , and became W . M . in 1 S 72 . He was founder and first W . M . of the Sir Watkin Lodge , No . 1477 , in 18 74 , and in 1876 founded , and was installed first W . M ., the chair of which he held for two years in succession ; he has filled various offices in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire , having been appointed Prov . G . Stwd . in 1867 , P . S . G . D . in 1 S 74 , and P . S . G . W . in i 8 So , as well as P . G . S . B ., and ,

subsequently , P . J . G . W . of North Wales and Salop ; he was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in 1 S 70 , in the Zion Chapter , No . 537 , and joined the Grosvenor Chapter , No . 721 , in 1873 , of which he became first Principal in 1 S 77 ; in Provincial Grand Chapter he filled the offices of Prov . G . J . in 18 77 , and Prov . G . H . in 1892 . In Mark Masonry , Bro . Salmon was advanced in the Joppa Lodge , No . 11 , Birkenhead , in 1876 , and on the Earl of Chester Lodge being founded in 1876 ,

he became its first W . M ., he filled the chair of Unity Lodge , No . 321 , in 1886 ; and was appointed Prov . G . Reg , in 1 S 8 7 ; and Prov . S . G . W . of North Wales and Salop in 1878 ; and on the division of North VVales and Shropshire , was elected P . G . Treas . at the first meeting at Wrexham , in 1 S 86 , by a large majority , and last year he was appointed Deputy G . M , foe the Province ot Chester ; in 1 S 78 he was appointed

to office in Grand Mark Lodge , that of I . G . Bro . Salmon has served eight Stewardships for the Institutions , and is Chairman of the Fund of Benevolence in his province . He has been no less honoured in Civic life , having been elected Sheriff of the City of Chester in 18 79 , and Mayor in 1889 , whilst he was placed on the Commission for the Peace in 1891 .

Bro . J . FLOWER J ACKSON , J . P ., is a Mason of 34 years' standing , was initiated in St . George ' s and Corner Stone Lodge , No . 5 , in 1858 , and became Worshipful Master in 1865 , and is a Past Grand Steward . He has served two Stewardships , viz ., for the Boys' School and the Benevolent Institution .

GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . Major General GADSDEN , whose initiation in Grand Master ' s Lodge , No . 1 , dates from 1853 , was , after an interval of 41 years , installed as W . M , of his mother lodge in January last . The exigencies of his profession rendered his Masonic progress at home impossible , but he has not been inactive during this time , having joined Lodge Astraa , No . 1376 , in Burmah , in 1863 ; Sydney Samaritan Lodge ,

No . 57 8 , in 1868 ; St . John ' s Lodge , No . 434 , in the same year ; the Western Star Lodge , No , 1049 , ' ' ^ 75 ; an d Lodge Philanthropy , No . 542 , in 18 S 4 . Previous to his installation as W . M . of No . i , he had filled the chair ot St . John ' s Lodge , in 1 S 68 and 1875 . In the District Grand Lodge of Madras he has been successively D . G . A . D . of C . in 1869-70 , and 1870-71 , and D . G . W . in 1871-72 . He was exalted in the Royal Arch in the Royal Burmah Chapter , No . S 32 , at Rangoon ,

and afterwards joined St . John s , Secunderabad , No . 434 , in which chapte . ' he was installed First Principal in 1870 . The following offices in the District Grand Chapter of Madras were successively filled by Bro . Gadsden , viz ., District Grand Standard Bearer in 1870 , 2 nd Asst . Sojourner in 1871 , Principal Sojourner in 1 S 72 , Scribe N . in 1873 , and J . in 1875 . He has served as Steward , and qualified as Life Governor for each of the Institutions , and is a Past Grand Steward of England .

DEPU 1 V GRAND SWORD BEARER . Bro . Lieut ,-Col . J . T . RITCHIE , R . A ., who fills an important official posilion in the War Department , was initiated in 1859 ' Concord Lodge , Banbury , and afterwards joined St . Andrew ' s in the East , at Poona ; the United Military Lodge , at Woolwich ; and the Ubique Lodge , No . 1789 , of which he was a founder and Worshipful Master in 18 79 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in Stockwell Chapter , afterwards joining the Ubique , of which he became First Principal in 1890 . He has served two Stewardships , one each for thc Boys' and Girls' Schools .

GRAND STANDARD BEARERS . Bro . GEORGE READ was initiated in Zetland Lodge , No . 511 , held at Kensington , December , 1865 , was W . M . in 1871 , and has been Secretary from that time to the present . He joined the Hyde Park Lodge , No . 1425 , at its consecration in 1873 , was then appointed Secretary , and has held it lrom that time to the present ; joined the Londesborough Lodge , No . 16 S 1 , at its consecration in 1877 , was then appointed Secretary , and held the appointment until 18 90 , when be was elected
