Bro . Vansittart had taken in Alasonry since he had been quartered in that district , he was not only one of the most enthusiastic but also one of the hardest working Masons in the Aletropolitan area . Under Bro . Vansittart ' s guidance their lodge would go on and prosper , and become " ¦" of the strongest in London . 1 le asked them , therefore , «> dunk the toast with a good lire .

Ijro . Vansittart , in response , said he had that day achieved the summit of his Masonic ambition . He would " ry and do his work so well that there should be no complaint on their part . He was glad to hear from the propositions made in open lodge that there were several candidates , all good men and true , for their next meeting , and unci ! to see many more as time rolled on . Olhcers , " "The Alasonic Press , " and the Tyler ' s toast . Bros . Hobson , Anderson , Bilton , Jolly , and others contributed to the harmony , and Bro . Herman , the celebrated prestidigitateur , performed a number of marvellous tricks , causing not only amazement , but much laughter , for which he was heartily cheered . The whole affair was a great success .

PUSFLEET . Tilbury Lodge ( No . 2006 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Roval Hotel , on Saturday , 14 th inst ., when Bro . Joseph Bruton , S . W ., was installed as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year by the outgoing Alaster , Bro . VV . J . Crump , P . G . Stwd ., P . J . G . W . The installation ceremony was performed in

a masterly manner by Bro . Crump , and he was warmly congratulated thereon by the brethren present . A Past Alaster's jewel , which had been unanimously voted , was presented to him by the new Worshipful Master , who remarked upon the very eminent services rendered to the lodge by Bro . Crump during the past year , and expressed a hope that he would continue his support to the lodge .

Bro . Crump , who was warmly received , heartily thanked the members for that gratifying mark of their esteem , and promised to continue his interest in the Tilbury Lodge . The Worshipful Master asked the lodge to accept from him a lodge banner , which was a piece of furniture he thought they much wanted . The banner was unfurled and greeted with hearty plaudits . It is a very handsome one of blue

silk , the design being the lodge jewel and motto , surmounted by the name of the lodge , and the name of the donor at the foot . Bro . Crump , I . P . AL , on behalf of the lodge , thanked the VV . AL for his valuable gift , and moved that a note of the presentation should be recorded on the minutes . This was carried by acclamation . Ten guineas having been voted to the Royal Alasonic Benevolent

Institution , the newly-installed VV . AL proceeded to give proof of his proficiency by initiating in the most perfect manner four gentlemen , the impressiveness of the ceremony being much enhanced by some musical selectionsby a quartette under the direction of Bro . VVilford Price . The new

officers , who ably assisted the W . M ., are : Bros . Bradshaw Brown , P . G . Stwd ., S . W . ; Buttery , J . W . ; VV . L . Dudgeon , P . M ., P . P . S . G . D ., Treas . ; VV . L . Dudgeon , Sec ; A . V . Willmott , S . D . ; A . Thomson , J . D . ; P . C Walker , I . G . ; and VV . VV . Barber , P . P . D . G . D . of C , D . of C .

A large number of visitors were present at the meeting , including Bros . T . J . Railing , P . A . G . D . C , Prov . G . Sec . ; A . Lucking , P . G . P ., Prov . G . D . C ; H . E . Dehane , P . P . G . D . ; and Bolton , ALP . At the close of the business about 50 brethren dined together , a splendid fish dinner being ably served by the host , Bro . Wingrove . The banner was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .

SCUNTHORPE . St . Lawrence Lodge ( No . 2078 ) . — The monthly meeting ol this lodge was held on Friday , the 13 th inst ., at the Alasonic Rooms , Manley-street , when there were present Bros . Campbell , VV . AL ; Spilman , I . P . AL ; Peace , S . W . ; AlcCullum , J . W . ; Chatterton , Sec . ; Wilkins , S . D . ; Swabey , Alorley , Campbell , Hadley , Tyler ;

and others . Visitors : Bros . Behrendt , W . AI . 14 S 2 , and Constable , I . P . AL 14 S 2 . Bro . Alorley was dul y passed to the Second Degree , the work being performed by the VV . AL As usual the brethren partook of supper in the ante-room and spent an enjoyable evening .

SURB 1 TON . StirbitOll Lodge ( No . 2146 ) . —The installation meeting of this nourishing lodge was held at the Alaple Hall on the 17 th inst ., when the attendance of members and visitors established a " record , " no less than 75 signing the book . Bro . Col . G . Noel , Money , C . B ., P . G . AL , had signified his intention of being present , and , as is his

custom , arrived early so that he might see the working of the officers throughout . Bro . Douglas Kidley was raised by the W . M ., Bro . Hewett , P . M . 1614 . The ceremony was worked with a correctness and smoothness which could hardly be excelled , and the candidate " proved " himself in so intelligent a manner as to call forth the special approval of the Prov . Grand Alaster later on . To show how proficient

his officers were , the VV . AL called on the VV . AL elect to give the traditional history , and on the J . W . to explain the working tools , both going through without falter . With Bro . C . AI . Hogg , P . AI . 1 S 72 , as S . W ., Bro . VV . Drewett , P . AL SS 9 , as J . W ., and Bro . Wilson , P . AI . 2140 , as D . C , the W . AI proceeded to install Bro . T . H . R . Beck as bis successor , and did so in the presence of 25

Past Masters of the Craft , who were highly pleased to watch the excellent rendering of the ritual . The prescribed salutes being given , the VV . AL appointed hisoflicers , viz .: Bros . Buddcn , S . W . ; R . J . Williams , J . W . ; R . Sebastian Hart , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., Treasurer ; A . Stone , P . AL , P . P . A . G . P ., Secretary ; Gilbey , S . D . ; R . Babbs , J . D . ; F . Babbs , I . G . ; Jonh Williams , D . C . ;

Toinkinson and John Hart , Stewards ; and List , lyler . Ihe ancient charges were given most eloquently by the Installing Master , who it should be said had been very ably assisted by Bro . Wilson , the D . C After the proposition of candidates , the lodge was closed . The banquet was served at the Surbiton Assembly Rooms close by , Alessrs . Packham and Sons ( Bro . James Packham

being of the firm ) catering throughout in a way highly approved of by all present . As a long programme of music had been arranged by Air . H . E . K . Hart ( son of the Treasurer , and a candidate for election ) , the VV . AL set the example of brevity , merely announcing the toasts which require no comment . Before

passing on we may say that the music was mostly contributed by members of the lodge , and the rendering of the part songs was exceedingly creditable to those who sang them . Bro . Sebastian Hart presided at the piano , and Bro . B . Jackson contributed a " Alasonic " march on the banjo . In proposing "The Health of the R . W . Prov . G . AL , " the W . M . expressed the gratification of the lodge at having the honour of a visit from the head of the province , and trusted to see him with them on many occasions .

Ar01102

Bro . Col . Noel Money said it had been a great pleasure to him to come to the Surbiton Lodge , and see such a firstrate lodge and such capital working' . He was also glad to see the VV . AL perform the ceremony of installation—indeed , he was of opinion it ought always to be so—and perform it in a way that few others could come up to , and none surpass . It was a good sign also to find no Past Alasters appointed to fill working offices in the lodge , for it showed

that the younger members were qualifying to fill the chair . He was especially struck with the way in which the Third Degree had been conferred , and pleased to hear how intelligently the candidate answered the questions . That was a point on which he ( the Prov . Grand Master ) had a strong opinion , and he would not advance anyone unable to make the required replies , for he held that if any candidate did not think it worth while to make himself an fait with the questions put to him , it was not worth being a Masan .

In conclusion , the P . G . AI . said he had nothing but praise of the highest degree to bestow upon the work which he had seen . He hoped to visit them again , and find the W . M . that day installed following in the stepsof the l . P . M ,, which he had no doubt he would worthily do . A letter had been read from Bro . F . West , D . P . G . M . ' , regretting his absence , and the pleasurable duty of responing for "The Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " fell upon Bros . C . C . Gibbes , P . P . G . VV ., and VV . Drewett ,

P . P . G . Std . Br . In proposing "The Health of the W . AI ., " Bro . Hewett referred to the way in which Bro . Beck had worked steadily through every office , and told the brethren of the lodge that he was sure the more they knew him the better they would like him . The W . M . having replied , proposed "The Installing Master , " and presented Bro . Hewett with the Past

Master's jewel voted to him by the lodge , which was suitably acknowledged . Other toasts succeeded in the intervals between the musical items , and for " The Visitors" responded the Worshipful Alasters of St . Alargaret ' s , Eurydice , Dobic , and Brownrigg—all nei g hbouring lodges ; also Bro . VV . H . Bale , P . AL and Treas . Vitruvian Lodge , No . S 7 , in which the W . AI . of Surbiton Lodge was initiated , who spoke of the

pleasure it gave him to see the progress which Bro . Beck had made , and on behalf of his mother lodge wished him a happy year of office . This gathering will long be remembered by the Surbiton Lodge , and also by those who partook of its profuse hospitality . The visitors included Bros . Colonel Noel Aloney , Prov . G . AL ; J . Strapp , P . M . 33 , P . G . S . ; C . AI . Hogg , P . M .

SCUNTHORPE . St . Lawrence Lodge ( No . 2078 ) . — The monthly meeting ol this lodge was held on Friday , the 13 th inst ., at the Alasonic Rooms , Manley-street , when there were present Bros . Campbell , VV . AL ; Spilman , I . P . AL ; Peace , S . W . ; AlcCullum , J . W . ; Chatterton , Sec . ; Wilkins , S . D . ; Swabey , Alorley , Campbell , Hadley , Tyler ;

and others .

Past Masters of the Craft , who were highly pleased to watch the excellent rendering of the ritual . The prescribed salutes being given , the VV . AL appointed hisoflicers , viz .: Bros . Buddcn , S . W . ; R . J . Williams , J . W . ; R . Sebastian Hart , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., Treasurer ; A . Stone , P . AL , P . P . A . G . P ., Secretary ; Gilbey , S . D . ; R . Babbs , J . D . ; F . Babbs , I . G . ; Jonh Williams , D . C . ;

M . 33 , P . G . S . ; C . AI . Hogg , P . M .
