M . opened the joint lodge in the Three

Degrees , the brethren wearing Alasonic mourning , the deceased ' s vacant stall on the dais , his portrait hanging on the wall , and the panel recording the years he was Master , being draped in black . The ceremony commenced by the choir chanting the 15 th Psalm , after which , in response to a question by the VV . AL , the Acting S . W . stated they were met to honour the memory

of the brother who had been taken from them , and the Acting J . W . spoke upon the sentiments which at such an hotirinspired them . Suitable sentences followed , spoken by the four Acting Deacons . Bro . Dr . C . D . Hill Drury then read the 12 th chapter of Eccles ., and the singing of the hymn , ' ¦ Great God , what do I see and hear , " followed . During the singing of this hymn the ollicers

rose , and the brethren formed in procession , and marched three times round the catafalque . The brethren then formed a circle around it , and an impressive ceremony followed , conducted by the Directors of Ceremonies . A Masonic prayer was then offered by the Rev . C . Jackson . Bro . F . Martin , W . M , rendered the passage " 'Though I walk 'through the Valley of the

Shadow of Death , " with much feeling . During the singing of the first verse of " Brother , now thy work is o ' er" the D . C . extinguished silently the Junior Warden ' s light ; during the next verse the Senior Warden ' s light was extinguished . The two W . AI . ' s each advanced to the catafalque and placed thereon a wreath of white , saying "The mercy of the Lord is

from everlasting to everlasting . I deposit this wreath as an emblem of immortality and hope . " 'The Rev . R . A . Waters offered a brief declaration ; a solemn pause followed , when the D . C . called upon the brethren to give their departed brother Grand Honours for the last time . A circle was again formed , and vows of truth , faithfulness , and fraternal love were renewed

words of farewell being expressed b y the D . C . The brethren adjourned to the late residence of the deceased and preceded the funeral cortege , each brother wearing white gloves and carrying a sprig of acacia . The family and principal mourners followed the hearse in mourning coaches . The service at the cemetery was fully choral . On reaching the cemetery gates the

service , the brethren sang as a closing hymn 'For ever with the Lord , " and afterwards filed past the grave and deposited their sprigs of acacia upon the coffin . The brethren returned to Freemasons' Hall , where the ceremony was concluded , the closing prayer being offered by Bro . Rev . Campbell Jeffries .
