M . had referred to him as being a Master of the ceremonies , but he vvas afraid he did not deserve that comp liment . Although he vvas conscious he had not performed them in a manner equal to those
preceding him , yet he had done his best , and must ask them to take that as his portion of his duty to that lodge , but whether his effort would add any lustre to it he would leave them to judge . He had done his best , and vvas pleased to congratulate them en the success of his year of office , vvhich had far exceeded his expectations . When he took office he felt the lodge could not be classed as one of the first lodges
in the province as far as finance vvas concerned , and he accordingly made up his mind to place it on a sound basis . That had been done , and he congratulated them accordingly . He had that evening initiated the eighth candidate during his year , and he thought they would all make good Freemasons and be a credit to the lodge , and not regret entering it . He vvas sorry his year had been somewhat
marred by the loss of two worthy brethren held in high esteem in the lodge . He thanked the officers for supporting him and for performing their duties in a creditable manner vvhich left nothing to be desired . KINGSTON-ON-THAMES . Brownrigg Lodge ( No . 1638 ) . — The first meeting of the season was held on Wednesday , the iSth inst ., at the Sun Hotel . The lodge was opened by Bro . W . Drewett , P . M . SS 9 , W . M ., vvith Bros . Montagu , S . W ., and Willis , J . W ., the Deacons' and I . G . 'sposts being filled by deputies , in the unavoidable absence of those officers .
The ballot vvas taken for Messrs . R . Edwards , Woodcock , and Olding , and proved unanimous , whereupon the W . M . proceeded to initiate them . The efficiency of the principal and assistant officers was very marked , and the ceremony was conducted in a very impressive manner . A vote of £ 2 10 s . vvas made to the Binckes Annuity Fund , and of £ 5 5 s . to the list of the W . M ., who is Steward to the Boys '

S . vvas fully justified by his punctuality and ability , and he ( the speaker ) vvas sure he would not only do credit to the lodge , but advance the interests of Freemasonry in general . The VVorshipful Master , in responding , undertook to discharge the important duties with vvhich he had been entrusted to the best of his ability , and said he hoped to
receive the same hearty applause at the end of his year of office as the toast had just received , and he felt sure he should have willing and loyal assistance at the hands of his officers . The VV . be deeply gratifying to him and encourage him to keep up the prestige of the lodge as his predecessors had done , and he hoped that on his leaving the chair he would enjoy not only the esteem , but the friendship of his brethren for many years . Bro . Barden said he had known Bro . Lyle ever since he came to Maidstone , and a more worthy Mason could not
occupy the chair . Bro . Woolley said it vvas his first visit to the lodge , and hoped it would not be the last by many . He thanked the brethren for the hearty reception he had received . Bro . Clibbon was also called upon to reply , and said that friendship and brotherly feeling among the brethren was a

S . vvas fully justified by his punctuality and ability , and he ( the speaker ) vvas sure he would not only do credit to the lodge , but advance the interests of Freemasonry in general . The VVorshipful Master , in responding , undertook to discharge the important duties with vvhich he had been entrusted to the best of his ability , and said he hoped to
receive the same hearty applause at the end of his year of office as the toast had just received , and he felt sure he should have willing and loyal assistance at the hands of his officers . The VV . Barker , in responding , said he had not visited the Mailing Lodge for nearly 20 years , but after the splendid manner in which he had been entertained that evening he hoped it would not be long before he should have the same opportunity of enjoying himself in their company . The esteem in vvhich the VV . M . vvas held by the brethren must
be deeply gratifying to him and encourage him to keep up the prestige of the lodge as his predecessors had done , and he hoped that on his leaving the chair he would enjoy not only the esteem , but the friendship of his brethren for many years . Bro . Barden said he had known Bro . Lyle ever since he came to Maidstone , and a more worthy Mason could not
occupy the chair . Bro . Woolley said it vvas his first visit to the lodge , and hoped it would not be the last by many . He thanked the brethren for the hearty reception he had received . Bro . Clibbon was also called upon to reply , and said that friendship and brotherly feeling among the brethren was a
