The necessary answers having been given , he was entrusted , and retired . The lodge having been opened in the Second Degree , Bro . Hurst was re-admitted , and the ceremony of passing vvas ably rehearsed , after vvhich the

W . M . gave the explanation of the second tracing board The brethren then engaged themselves in a thorough practice of several small details in connection vvith the various Degrees . A W . M . vvas elected for the ensuing Thursday , ancl the officers of that evening each undertook to discharge the duties of one office higher on that occasion . All business being ended , the lodge was closed , the meeting having proved an agreeable and instructive one .

CAMDEN _ LODGE ( No . 704 ) . —The usual weekly meeting of this lodge vvas held at the new Masonic Rooms , adjoining the White Hart Hotel , 116 , High-street , Lewisham , near the Lewisham Junction Railway Station , on Thursday , the igth inst ., when Bro . business the election of new members and thanks to visitors were severally made and expressed . Bro . Kentish took occasion to impart the satisfaction vvhich the work of the evening had afforded him , more particularly as he found it to be in accord with the work of the Emulation Lodge of Improvement , vvith the addition of certain details and explanations of a most instructive character , in respect of many of vvhich he should find opportunity for further

consideration . Bro . Stevens , Preceptor , expressed his gratification at receiving such testimony in regard to his teaching from such a qualified and experienced brother . Alexander Howell , iS ° , acted as R . I . D . M . The council having been opened , the minutes of the last regular meeting were read and confirmed . The Treasurer

presented an abstract of his accounts , from which it appeared that many of the members vvere considerably in arrear . The accounts having been accepted , the T . I . M . gave not ce that at the next meeting he would propose that the names of the principal defaulters be erased from the books , and it vvas unanimously resolved , on the proposition of the T . I . M ., that no member in arrear should be appointed

to any office in the council . The ballot vvas then taken for Master and Treasurer respectively , and Comp . R . W . Mitchell ( the R . I . D . M . ) vvas elected as T . I . M ., and Comp . H . R . PROPOSED GARDEN PARTY AT MANCHESTER .

The brethren of the Province of East Lancashire have arranged to hold a garden party on the 26 th prox . at the Botanical Gardens , Old Trafford , Manchester . The first meeting of the Organising Committee was held on Tuesday last , under the presidency of Bro . J . H . Sillitoe , P . G .

Std . Br . It was announced that the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Col . Le Gendre N . Starkie , had consented to become a Patron , and other distinguished brethren have already added their names to thejlist . Bro . Thos . Black , W . M . St , George's Lodge , was elected Chairman ; Bro . VV . Jaffrey , P . P . G . D ., Treasurer ; and Bro . John E . Lees , P . P . G , Treas ., Hon . Secretary of the Executive Committee . The

managers of several of the provincial theatres , the Manchester Arts Club , and other musical and dramatic societies are rendering assistance in arranging concerts , entertainments , & c , and at least two military bands will take partin the proceedings . The Chairman and Curator of the Botanical Society—Bros . J . R . Hampson and Bruce P'indlay—are also giving most valuable aid , so that there

is every prospect of the undertaking being one of the most successful and enjoyable gatherings ever organised by the Craft in the North of England . A more suitable place than the Botanical Gardens could not have been selected , as it is within reasonable distance of the termini of the principal railways , and there is a good service of trams and

omnibuses from the centre of the city . Besides all these advantages there is one still greater , viz ., should the weather unfortunately turn out wet , there are plenty of permanent structures , some of them parts of the late Jubilee Exhibition building , to shelter seven or eight thousand people , and , at the same time , allow ample space for the concerts and

entertainments . The net proceeds of the garden party vvill be handed over to the East Lancashire Systematic Masonic Beuevolent and Educational Institution .
