The Echo , of the 26 th inst ., has the following in reference to the action of Bro . Walter Besant with respect to the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge : " Mr . Walter Besant wants information , and we hope he may get it . He wants to know how the Society for tne Promotion of Christian Knowledge can reconcile the sweating practices he lays to its charge with the Christianity of Christ . He is
not to be trilled with—Mr . Besant . He has written a pamphlet ( published by Glaisher ) , in which he accuses this Christian Society ot grasping , ungenerous treatment of the authors—and especially of the women—from the sale of whose books it derives its very prosperous revenues . Mr .
Besant , in his straightforward way , gives sume striking examples of the kind of unfairness against which he is inveighing . What answer has this publishing concern—vvhich is no more ' Christian ' than Longmans or Murray — to give to Mr . Besant ? Of one thing the Society may feel sure—Mr . Besant vvill not let the matter drop . "
