An Interesting Reminiscence.

AN INTERESTING REMINISCENCE .

Some months ago , the following letter appeared in the columns of the London Freemason , signed W . F . Lamonby : " I have lately been shown here ( Melbourne , Victoria ) three fine copies of the ' Book of Constitutions . ' The first is the 1723 edition ( re-bound ) , and the second

Entick's 1756 edition . The third , however—Nourthouck's 17 84—is the most interesting , as I will endeavour to show . It appears to have originally belonged to the Westminster and Keystone Lodge , No . 10 , ancl has been specially bound in crimson calf , most elaborately ' tooled' with Masonic emblems . The following

is a copy of the lettering on a black centre-piece : ' Westminster and Keystone Lodge , No . 5 , Bros . M . Dvvyer , R . W . Master ; A . Badger , S . W . ; S . Stephenson , J . W . ; C . Montagu , Sec ; A . L . 2 , A . D . 1792 . ' The book is surely an interesting relic of the old Westminster and Keystone Lodge , and the problem to solve

is , how it happened to travel to this part of the world . I believe it and the other copies were bought cheap at a second-hand book-stall in Melbourne . The present owner is Bro . T . W . Fowler , C . E ., 12 , Collins-street West , Melbourne , District Grand Director of Ceremonies , E . G ., Victoria . "

The foregoing having been noticed by the Secretary of the Westminster and Keystone Lodge—which , it may be explained , is one of the oldest and most influential lodges in London , its charter dating from the year 1722—Bro . Fowler was communicated with , and asked to name a price for the book in question . This

he declined to do , but sent the volume forthwith to London as a present to tbe lodge . A mail or two ago Bro . Fowler received the following letter acknowledging the graceful gift : " United University Club , London , " June 12 , 188 9 . " Dear Sir and Brother ,
