The minutes of the last regular meeting having been read and confirmed , the W . M . elect , Bro . Sydney Brown , S . W ., was at the proper period presented to the W . M ., who addressed him in the prescribed form , and in due course administered the obligation . Subsequently the ceremony of installation was completed in ancient form , and the W . The usual addresses were then given by the Installing Master , to whom a vote of thanks was cordially passed for the able _ and impressive manner in which he had installed his successor in the Master ' s chair . Bro . E . G . Walthew was re-elected Almoner and delegate to the Provincial Grand Lodge Charity Committee .

After the transaction of other routine business , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the Bear and Key Hotel , where the banquet was served . The usual toasts were g iven and responded to , and an admirable programme of vocal and instrumental music was executed by Bros . Plant , Rhodes , and Pearson , of Canterbury Cathedral ; H . Hemsley , and F . A . Johnson . The VV . M . presided with much geniality , and a very agreeable evening was spent .

St . Osyth Priory Lodge , No . 2063 . The installation meeting of this lodge was held on Friday , the 20 th instant , at the New Town Hall , Clacton-on-Sea , a special dispensation for the meeting to be held there having been granted by Bro . the F . arl of Warwick , Prov . Grand Master . There was a large muster of brethren . Bro . A . Swan was installed as W . M . for the ensuing year by Bro . VV . J . Nunn , P . M ., P . P . G . D . Cordwainer Ward Lodge , No . 2241 . The first meeting of the season was held at the Cannon-street Hotel on Wednesday , the 19 th inst . Bro . C J . Wilkinson-Pimhney , W . W . Potter , P . M . ; and others . Four gentlemen were proposed for initiation at the next meeting . The visitors were Bros . Packman , P . M . ; Dangerfield , P . M . ; and Hooper . At the conclusion of the business an excellent banquet was served .

Acacia Lodge , No . 2321 . The annual election meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , the 5 th instant , at the Masonic Hall , Bradford . Bro . C . H . Ellis , W . A ., which proved in his favour , a d he being in attendance was initiated into the mysteries of the Craft in a very satislactory manner by the VV . M . The working tools of an E . A . were explained by Bro . J . B . Ft-ainley , J . W ., and the charge in the First Degree was delivered by Bro . S . A . Bailey , P . M ., Treas . The ballot for W . M . for the ensuing year resulted in the election

of Bro . Saml . Robinson , Sec ; Bro . Bailey , P . M ., was re-elected Treas . ; and Bro . C . Wood was elected Tyler . The resignation of Bro . S . A . Auty , P . M ., the second Master of the lodge—who after 25 years' connection and active service had retired from the Craft—was dul y recorded , with expressions of regret from the members . The report of the Audit Committee was received and adopted . Apologies for the absence of Bros . Stephenson , P . M . ; Niven , P . M . ; and other bi ethren were tendered . The name of a gentleman was submitted for election at a future meeting , after which the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned from labour to refreshment .

After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts had been honoured , the W . M . proposed " Bro . Saml . Robinson , Sec , the W . M . Elect , " which was well received . Bro . Robinson briefly responded . He thanked the brethren for the confidence they had reposed in him , and assured them that he fully appreciated the honour done him , and that nothing would be omitted on his part to endeavour to maintain the prestige of the lodge , and , with the co-operation of the Past Masters and officers , he hoped to have a successful year of office . The W . M . proposed "The Health of Bro . C Wood , " who . had recently been married .

The toast was cordially received , and suitably acknowledged . Bro . Ward , 1034 , in responding for "The Visitors , " expressed the pleasure it had afforded him to have been present that evening , especially at having had the opportunity of witnessing the introduction into the Craft of a member of his profession , and he assured the brethren that in Bro . Betteridge , the initiate , with whom he had been acquainted for a number of years , they had one who would become a worthy member of the lodge . Bro . Ward stated that he had previously visited the lodge , and he hoped the

brethren would give him the opportunity of doing so again on many future occasions . "The W . M . " was proposed by Bro . J . T . Last , l . P . M ., who remarked that it was probably the last opportunity he would have of proposing the Worshipful Master ' s health whilst he was the occupant of the chair . Bro . Ellis had worthily upheld the best traditions of the lodge . He had always its best interests at hoart , and had during his term of office looked well after and made ample provision for the creature comforts of the brethren and visitors during the periods of lodge refreshment , and he deserved well of the lodge .

Bro . C II . Ellis , W . M ., responded in suitable terms . He thanked the brethren for the kind manner they had received the toast of his health , and stated that it had always been his endeavour to do his duty , and if he had succeeded in giving satisfaction during his term of office he was much gratified . "Ihe Past Masters" was proposed by the W . M ., and responded to by Bro . Bailey , P . M . The Tyler ' s toast concluded a pleasant meeting . The speeches were interspersed with songs by Bros , Harland , Ward , Fearnley , Sykes , and Last .

Royal Alfred Chapter , No . 777 . A meeting of this chapter was held at the Angel Hotel , Guildford , on Wednesday the iSth inst . The business was to instal the H ., and to invest some other officers who had also been unavoidably absent at the previous convocation . There were present Comps . C . Cheel , M . E . Z . ; E . H . All business being concluded , the companions adjourned to an excellent banquet from which speech-making was rigorously excluded , and after an evening of great enjoy ment , they separated at an early hour .

Camden Preceptory . A very successful meeting was held at Mark Masons' Hall , Great Queen-street , on Thuesday , the 24 th inst . Sir Knight N . Goodchild , M . D ., presidedfassisted by his Constable , Sir Knight R . C . Leversedge , and the Marshal , Sir Knight H . Coffin . Sir Knight Leversedge was elected E . P . Comps . A . Clemow and Brown were duly installed as Knights Templar . A Priory of Malta was afterwards held , and several Knights Templar were admitted , the ritual being ably rendered by Sir Knight Dr . Balfour Cockburn , M . D .

The members and visitors afterwards dined at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , E . C , when Sir Knights H . Lovegrove and Dr . Balfour Cockburn responded on behalf of "The Grand Officers , " and Sir Knight Capt . Dean on behalf of "The Visitors . " "The Health of the E . P ., Sir Knight Dr . Goodchild , " was proposed by Sir Knight Lovegrove , and very heartily received . The members present , besides the chief officers , included Sir Knights Britton , Stiles , Brewis , A . Clemow , Brown , Malony , Thompson , Mundle , and Aitken .

The above is a portrait of Miss Constance Irene Winifrede Shanks , daughter of Bro . Major J . G . Shanks , K . M ., and the youngest Vice-Patron of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . Bro . Shanks has been a Mason close upon 40 years , and is a Life Governor of all the great Masonic Charities , as well as of some local ones . He is a Past Master of Lodges Nos . 189 and 1887 England , and of two Scottish lodges ; P . Z . of No . 1205 and M . E . Z . of No . 330 ; P . M- No . 35 ( Mark ) , P , Eminent Preceptor of several preceptories , Past M . W . S . of St .

Aubyn Chapter ( Rose Croix ) , a member of the Royal Order of Scotland , and of the Order of the Eastern Star ( ladies' Freemasonry ) . In addition he is a Past G . VV . of Devon in the Craft and Mark , as well as Past Grand j . and Past Grand Sub-Prior of the same province , and Past Grand Sword Bearer of England in the Order of the Temple , & c , He has been a founder of several lodges and chapters , and has had several presentations of jewels , & c , made to him for good Masonic work in the various Degrees .
