BRO . E . Y . JOLLIFFE , P . M ., P . Z . It is with very deep regret that we announce the death , on Sunday last , the 22 nd instant , at his residence , ioo , King Henry-road , of Bro . E . Y . Jolliffe , P . M ., P . Z ., the respected Secretary of the Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 . Our deceased brother for many years past had played a distinguished part in Freemasonry , and at the time of his death was not only , 1 Past Master and Secretary of Lodge No .
1657 , but P . M . and Treaserer of the Derby Allcroft Lodge , No . 2168 , and P . M . and Treasurer of the Thames Valley Lodge , No . 14 C 0 , which met at Hampton Court , in the Province of Middlesex , while in 1887 his services to Craft Masonry were recognised by the late Bro . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., Prov . Grand Master , who appointed him to the high office of Prov . S . G . W . In Royal Arch Masonry he had won equal distinction , and was P . Z . and Scribe E . of the Aldersgate
Chapter , No . 1057 , and P . Z . ot the Royal Middlesex Chapter , No . 1194 , Hampton , and in 1889 was appoiuted to the chair of Prov . Third Grand Principal Middlesex . In all the various positions he had occupied at different times , Bro . Jolliffe had shown great ability , tact , and energy , and it is needless to say , that in the very large circle of brethren in which he moved , he was highly esteemed and respected . This , indeed , was shown at his funeral , which took place at Highgate
Cemetery on Wednesday , when , in addition to Messrs . A . J . and E . W . Rowland and Dr . T . C . McLearn , sons-in-law of the deceased , and Messrs . Harold Millersh and Henry Southall , there were present some 50 brethren , among whom were Bros . Dixon , W . M . 1657 ; W . H . Froom , P . M . 1657 ; A . B . Hudson , P . M ., P . Z . 1657 ; George Kenning , P . M ., P . Z . 1657 ; W . R . B . Briscoe , J . W . 1657 ; Thomas Briggs , 1657 ; Bro . Corbett representing the Neptune Lodge , No . 22 ;
Bro . Isaac Hardy , VV . M . Thames Valley Lodge , No . 1460 ; Bro . Thomas Moss , Sec . Hampden Lodge , No . 2427 ; Bro . R . D . Cummings , Derby Allcroft Lodge , No . 2168 ; with Bros . Laurence , Titford , Smerden , Patterson , Gregory , Musto , Nathan Robinson , L . C . C , and Millward . Among the wreaths which were sent in token of respect to our late brother were those presented by the Aldersgate and other
lodges with which he was connected . It only remains for us to offer our most respectful sympathy to the relatives and friends , both Masonic and non-Masonic , of our late Bro . Jolliffe , and to point out that the love and respect in which he was universally held must be to a certain extent a consolation at the present time when the loss they have sustained is most keenly felt .
BRO . THE REV . WM . VALENTINE , M . A . A sorrowful party met at Whixley Vicarage on Monday to pay the last sad tribute of respect to the remains of one of the best men and truest Masons the world has ever seen . Our late Bro . Valentine had been lor 42 years vicar of Whixley , with which he held the Perpetual Curacy of Allerton Mauleverer . He came of an old Devonshire family , and was an M . A . of Worcester College ,
Oxfoid . Possessed of considerable means , he was able not only to live , but to dispense charity and hospitality without stint , in spite of the united incomes of his two incumbencies amounting to less than the salary of a head-waiter . His life work in his parish will be an enduring record of his energy and goodness ot heart . He found the village of Whixley and its church in a condition of neglect and disorder . He has left it a typical English village , the church beautifully
restored and perfected , whilst in the neighbouring hamlet of Green Hammerton stands a lonely little church , erected at his own charges as a "thank-offering , " in which he regularly conducted services without fee or reward . Generous to a fault , he never heard a tale of want unmoved . His heart and his purse were alike open to the distressed and the needy , and it will be long before Whixley will see his like again . For the bulk of his life he enjoyed good health , but during the last
three or four years he showed signs of failing health , and within the last month an internal complaint developed itself , which carried him off after acute suffering borne most patiently . The writer saw and conversed with him a few days before his death , which he met with the greatest resignation . Our brother leaves six children , the eldest of whom —Lieut . Valentine , R . N . —is a member of the Craft , The late Bro . Valentine was initiated in the York Lodge , No . 236 , and served as
its Master in 1878 . He was a Past Prov . Grand Chaplain of North and East Yorkshire ; P . Z . of the Zetland Chapter , No . 236 , and P . P . G . J . ; a P . M . „ t the York Mark Lodge ( T . I . ) , and P . P . G . Chaplain ; ' Past Preceptor of the Ancient Ebor Preceptory , and Prelate of the Provincial Priory ; a member of the Hilda Chapter , Rose Croix , Sic . But the particular branch of Masonry in which he took the keenest interest was the Royal Order of Scotland , of which he was the
Provincial Grand Master for Yorkshire , and since his appointment to that office has never missed a meeting , save through ill-health . At the graveside several of his brethren were assembled , including Bros . T . B . Whytehead ( Deputy P . G . Master of the Royal Order for Yorkshire ) ; J . Todd , P . M ., G . Std . Br . ; Geo . Kirby , P . M . ; E . W . Purnell , P . M . ; T . S . Brogden , P . M . ; John Sampson ,
P . M . ; J . T . Seller , P . M . ; Geo . Limb , P . M . ; F . W . Halliwell ( Secretary ot the Royal Order for Yorkshire ) ; J . Biscnmb , L . J . Thompson , Kev . J . Blake , P . M . ; P . Pearson ; and others . A number of the leading clergy of the diocese were present , and the church was crowded with parishioners and others who came to see the last of their old friend .

Harold Millersh and Henry Southall , there were present some 50 brethren , among whom were Bros . Dixon , W . M . 1657 ; W . H . Froom , P . M . 1657 ; A . B . Hudson , P . M ., P . Z . 1657 ; George Kenning , P . M ., P . Z . 1657 ; W . R . B . Briscoe , J . W . 1657 ; Thomas Briggs , 1657 ; Bro . Corbett representing the Neptune Lodge , No . 22 ;
