of " The Provincial Grand Officers , " and he also replied to the toast of " The Visitors . " The proceedings were necessarily shorn of their customary conviviality consequent upon the enforced absence of the W . M ., who has done so much for the good of the lodge .

Hill Drury , to the D . P . G . M ., who in a most impressive manner installed Bro . Hill Drury into the chair . The W . M . then appointed his officers as follows : Bros .

S . F . Bousfield , S . W . ; T . K . Wilkes , J . W . ; C H . Sharp , M . O . ; E . Harrison , S . O . ; W . Swales , J . O . ; Rev . R . Coulton , Chap . ; H . A . Massingberd , Treas . ; R . S . Letters and telegrams of congratulation were received from several brethren ,

among others from Bros . Rev . Canon Tristram , D . D ., P . G . M , ; W . J . Hughan , T . B . Whytehead , Dr . Miiller , R . Singleton , W . M . Union Mark Lodge ; and others . " Hearty good wishes" were then tendered by the many visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room to celebrate the anniversary festival .

The toast of "The Queen" having been given and loyally responded to , The W . M . proposed " The Health of the M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales ; the Pro G . M ., the Marquess of Hertford ; the D . G . M ., the Earl of Euston ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " He said that as in Craft Masonry even so in the Mark Degree , ever

since his Royal Highness had become Grand Master the Degree had flourished . Whether it was the Prince ' s popularity or his well-known business qualifications , which was the cause he could not say , probably it was both ; but it was a well known fact that his name was all that was required to ensure success to any undertaking . As for the other Grand Officers , all of them were Masons of note , and

he specially spoke of Lord Euston , who had made Mark Masonry his peculiar study , and reminded the brethren that his lordship would visit the province on December 15 th , as the guest of the Tristram Lodge . Bros . C S . Lane , P . G . D ., and W . H . Cooper , G . I . G ., responded . The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Health of

the Prov . G . M ., Bro . Canon Tristram ; the Deputy Prov . G . M ., Bro . R . B . Reed ; and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and referred in grateful terms to the obligation he was under to the Deputy Prov . Grand Master for coming all the way from Newcastle to install him . Bro . R . B . Reed , in responding , said that if any one in the province was specially entitled to the services of the

Deputy Prov . Grand Master that brother was Dr . Hill Drury , a most energetic and distinguished Mason , and one who has been indefatigable in the cause of Charity . Bro . Reed concluded by proposing "The Health of the W . M . " Bro . Dr . Hill Drury replied , thanking the Deputy Prov . Grand Master for the great honour he had done him in installing him , and the brethren of the lodge for electing

him to rule over them , and for the hearty way they had drunk his health , and concluded by proposing " The Health of the [ . P . M ., " and amid loud cheering pinned upon Bro . Backhouse ' s breast a handsome Past Master s jewel , which had been subscribed for by the brethren of the lodge as a token of their esteem and an acknowledgment of the

services he had rendered to the lodge during the time he occupied the chair . Bro . Backhouse , Prov . S . G . W ., I . P . M ., thanked the brethren , and said that whenever he attended the lodge it would be his pride to wear that token of their favour . Several other toasts followed , and a most enjoyable evening was spent .

of " The Provincial Grand Officers , " and he also replied to the toast of " The Visitors . " The proceedings were necessarily shorn of their customary conviviality consequent upon the enforced absence of the W . M ., who has done so much for the good of the lodge .

DARLINGTON . Darlington Lodge ( No . 250 ) . —The installation meeting was held at the Masonic Hall on the 12 th inst ., Bro . C . H . Backhouse , P . S . G . W ., W . M ., in the chair . The lodge was opened , and the minutes read and confirmed . The Deputy Prov . Grand Master and the Officers

of Prov . Grand Lodge were announced , received , and saluted . The Treasurer ' s accounts were received and adopted . Bro . Backhouse then presented the W . M . elect , Bro . Dr .

O . ; Rev . R . Coulton , Chap . ; H . A . Massingberd , Treas . ; R . S . Benson , Reg . ; J . Robinson , Sec ; T . M . Thompson , S . D . ; W . Barron , J . D . ; J . Lawrence , M . D ., I . G . ; T . Wood , Stwd . ; and T . Prince , Tyler .
